She'd never celebrate anything ever again. Certainly not her birthday, for that was the day her life ended. She couldn't go on. It hurt, it hurt far too much for anything to ever be significant again. It would always hurt. Her eyes would never dry. And right after he'd given the ring! She stood in the rain, watching him walk away. As he got into his car, she broke down. She'd already been sobbing like crazy, but here, watching this, she physically collapsed. If she hadn't, or had had the strength to look up, she would've seen the car, still there. But she couldn't. She was over. Everything was over. There was no reason to go on. But she had one last thing, one more goodbye. Then she really would go. The pain…there were no words.
She stayed there for a long time. The words didn't come easy, not to her, not that time. Not with her world crashing down around her. But they came, bit by bit, piece by piece. She wrote them all down, glad she'd brought her notebook. She cried all the while.
