Hoi. Thanks for reading this truly epic crap I've made. I was thinking of just completely giving up on this, but I already have a whole story line planned so I can't quit now. Enjoy chapter two.
Disclaimer: I don't own Ninjago. (You know you gasped.)
"That'll be interesting." Cole says from the adult side of the table.
"Yep." Max replies to his adopted father, then he turns to us, "I suggest we get to work on that one ASAP."
"Agreed." I reply.
We hastily finish breakfast and make our way to my favorite place in Ninjago, the music studio. The ninja had renovated an old room for us as a suprise after we graduated from the Marty Oppenheimer school of preforming arts. Max's grandfather nearly shit himself when he found out. Cole had decided to wait until graduation to his father, a Royal Blacksmith, that Max had become a musician, Loud and Proud's lead singer. Since then, Loud and Proud has been the most famous band in Ninjago.
"Okay people let's get to work on this thing." Max said. He's pretty much the leader of our group, lead singer and leader when we deal with crimes throughout Ninjago.
"Max we don't say w-o-r-k. This whole band thing has been solely for fun since we started it and that ain't changing now." I tease.
"Luna, be nice to your boyfriend." Sunny says.
"Unlike you," I begin, "I keep my boyfriend in line."
"Max keeps himself in line, and Jake isn't that bad." She replies.
"Not 'that bad'?" Jake asks with a mock pout.
"Chill out you know I'm kidding." Sunny says with a smile. Deep down we all know she dates him out of pity.
We spend the rest of the day writing the song, which turned out so amazing it's physically painful to play. We eat dinner and head to bed.
I didn't know that such a simple thing could be such a huge mistake.
My entire being was in pain. Not just my body, but my very soul seemed to ache. I was finally free, but this seemed to fill me with fear. I turn my head to the side, someone is speaking to me. I could only make out a few words of what he was saying.
"Mission... assassinate... commissioner... don't get caught... consequences..."
That someone was white and purple. They had a long neck, and a tail in place of legs. He was holding a golden staff, the top was in the shape of cobra, which had a purple crystal embedded in it.
He finished speaking and I nodded. I walked over to a motorcycle. I rode into the city, screaming at myself to stop, but the only sound that left my mouth was a hiss.
It had taken nearly a half hour for me to calm down. I was still visibly worried in the morning, which worried everyone else. I am a master at hiding my emotions, not including anger, so when I looked worried, it was the equivalent of a normal person running around screaming.
The nightmare had never changed, not once since they began five years ago. Every night, it came at the exact same time, like clockwork. The only thing worse than that nightmare was memories of the day they started. The day I avenged my mother. The day I killed my father. The day that I lost my twin to flames. I never thought anything would shake me as much as the day I lost the person I shared every thought, every memory, every dream, every emotion, and even any pain with. I felt his pain as he burned to death. Luke wanted to shield his mind so I wouldn't share his pain, but I stayed deep in his mind until it wasn't there. Sure, I unlocked my elemental powers that day, but that hardly mattered to me. I didn't just lose my brother that day. I lost myself. I always hate myself when I look back on how I shut out my my friends who loved me like a sister, and wasn't there for the one who was my sister. I left Sunny to suffer alone, I was the only family she had left, and I abandoned her. I swore to myself that she'd never be as alone as I left her again.
"Luna? Earth to Luna." I was snapped out of my thoughts by Max. I looked up at him. "You okay?"
"Yeah." I lied. Normally, I was also an amazing liar. However, this wasn't normal. None of us had been this worried since Blake thought he ran out of hair gel right before a concert. Everyone in the room could tell. Which just worried everyone more.
I almost screamed "Hallelujah" when Max suggested we practice our new song. Naturally, they asked what was bothering me instead. Had any other creature in existence asked me, I wouldn't have replied, but my friends are my siblings in everything but blood. So, I told them about the new nightmare. We were debating whether it could actually come true when Cole walked in.
"There's some trouble in the city." he said. We all got up and went to the Basement, which doubles as the secret ninja base. We all sat down at the circular conference table.
"Some time last night," Nya began, "the police comissoner was murdered." There were looks of surprise and concern and everyone momentarily glanced at me.
"Luna, what do you know about this?" Kai asked. You didn't have to be a mind reader to know everyone in the room had wanted to ask that. So, I told them, since I didn't really have a choice.
"It sounds like Pythor's behind this." Jay said. "That would explain the scales we found."
"We thought the assassin is a Venomari, based on the color of the scales, but DNA tests showed signs of all serpentine tribes." Zane said, "That strangest part, is there was also human DNA, and traces of another unknown species."
Fifteen minutes later, we were at the police station. Besides the scales, the assassin had left no trace. We think he escaped by running on the roof tops. We made a plan, we think the assassin will strike again. So we decided to patrol the city that night.
"Luna?" Sunny asked, "You okay?"
Knowing I couldn't lie to her I responded truthfully, "No I'm not. If that nightmare was real, then I'm worried the other one was true, which could mean someone is being forced to do this." She was about to reply when our comms turned on,
"Guys I think I spotted him, he's on the highway." Max said.
"Alright were coming." I replied. Sunny and I got on our motorcycles and drove out of the alley we'd been waiting in. Out motorcycles were all black, except for the gold streaks on Sunny's and silver streaks on mine. Soon, we'd reached the highway. The rest of our team soon joined us, on their motorcyclycles which were basically replicas of ours, but with steaks of color that signified their element. Max and Jake were chasing someone dressed in all black, on a matching motorcycle. We formed a circle around him, while Max asked him to pull over. He pulled out daggers, and threw them at us. Two hit Lexi and Jake's tires, causing them to crash. The others were none to easily dodged. I tapped into Lexi and Jake's minds to make sure they're alright. They were. I tried to read the assassin's mind, but all I got was a whirlwind of confused and panicky thoughts.
The assassin continues to throw daggers at us, almost all of them hit tires, causing them to crash. Soon, it's only me, Sunny, and Max. Max tries to talk the assassin into surrendering. He replies with another knife, this one hitting Max in the gut.
"Sunny, check on Max." I say through the comm, "I'm gonna go kill that bitch."
I chase the assassin through the city, cornering him in a parking garage with very few people. Realizing he can't escape, he gets off his bike and faces me. I can't see his face because he's wearing a helmet. I pull out my katanas, preparing to fight. The assassin pulls out two more daggers, and charges at me. I quickly step to the side, and grab the back of his shirt. He tries to stab me, forcing me to let go of him and jump back. As he tries to charge at me again, I throw a ball of silver energy at him, fling him into the wall, and knocking his helmet off. I froze in shock. He clearly wasn't a serpentine, his scales were a very pale green, much paler than any Venomari. He also had hair, which was blond, with some very dark brown at the tips. The most shocking part, was his face. He looked almost exactly like Luke. The only differences were the snakeiness, and the fact that this couldn't be my brother.
The assassin took advantage of my shock and lunged at me, catching me by surprise and pinning me to the ground, knocking my katanas out of my hands. He had a dagger aimed at my throat, and I was dazed from hitting the concrete so hard. It would be so easy for him to kill me, right then and there, but he hesitated. The assassin just froze, and then squeezed his eyes shut. He backed away, eyes still closed and shaking his head. He put his helmet back on and drove off. I tried to, but couldn't get up, vaguely aware that my head was bleeding. So I reached up and turned on my comm, "He got away." was all I said before passing out.
The assassin was fighting himself. They almost made him kill her. He'd already killed the commissioner, and possibly someone else. He knew them. He knew he knew them, but he couldn't remember who they were. The issue was put aside with a hiss, and the assassin rode off into the night.
Max was leaning against the wall, outside the infirmary. Luna had woken up about a half hour ago, and told them everything that had happened. Max was twirling the green streak of hair around his finger. He had died it in honor of Luke, the one who would have been the green ninja. The one who should be leading the team, not Max. At least, in Max's opinion. Luke had been like an older brother to Max. He'd been so shy and scared when Cole found him in the forest and brought him to the monastery. Max didn't know why at the time, but the ninja always looked at him strangely. They still couldn't explain why Max looked almost exactly like Cole. the only difference being age and the eventual green streak of hair. Those stares had scared Max, who was just a little kid at the time, a little kid in the woods with no memory. While the ninja stared at him, Luke had welcomed him, made him feel safe. For a while, Luke was the only one he talked too. Luke always knew when the adults were staring at him again or the other kids being loud got too much for Max, and would take him out to the forest. Luna had always tagged along. You just couldn't separate the twins. At least that's what they thought. Just when Max had warmed up the everyone, of course Lloyd Garmadon had to screw it up. No one would ever forget waking up to the sound of an explosion, followed by fire. Followed by Luna and Luke running off after their father, and bringing back their mother's body. Followed by a prophecy. Followed by The twin's reckless hunt after their father. Only Luna had come back. In a week, more then half the Garmadons were wiped out.
But now Luna was saying Luke could be alive. Alive and being controlled by the Serpentine. Except that there was no way that anyone could have escaped that fire. Unless they were pulled out of it. Max thought. Pythor was working with Lloyd, he might have known some hidden passage in that building, and taken Luke, who would have been exhausted.
Luke could be alive.
