Storybrooke, Maine. 1 year before the curse was broken.
"Hello Sirena!"
Henry's voice startled me out of my reverie. 3:30! How could it already be that late! I had completely forgotten about my favorite students music lesson.
"Hey Henry. How are you?"
"I'm fine."
"Get started then shall we?"
2 hours later I hear Mayor Mills' car honk from outside.
"Goodness! Henry we've been talking for two hours. Your mom is gonna kill me!"
"Yeah. Well she is the evil queen."
"Ok Henry. I'll go say hello to get with you."
Miss Mills is a threatening woman who has the entire town wrapped around her fingertip. Frankly, however, she's never scared me that much. I can always see that buried beneath her eyes pis fear. Fear of something that I just can't pinpoint.
"Miss Moore, is there a reason my son is an hour late?"
"Sorry, Madame Mayor. Perhaps if Henry had more time with his friends he wouldn't need to talk to me for an hour."
"How I raise my son is none of your concern."
"And yet it comes back to me. How interesting if it doesn't concern me."
"Let's go Henry!"
"Bye, Sirena!"
"Bye, Henry"
That little boy is quite the miracle. His optimism and kindness never cease to amaze me. Especially considering who his mother is. No matter how high I had tried to build my walls he always sent them crashing down. He truly was one of my only friends in town. I think he could say the same of me. Poor Henry. Half the town thinks he's crazy, and the other half are to afraid of Regina to get anywhere near him. Life forms a repetitive nature. The only hope I have for Henry is for him to someday find something that will make him happy. As he would say, a happy ending.
Another realm. Before Killian becomes Captain Hook and Rumplestilskin becomes the Dark One
"It looks lovely on you, Alaina."
My older brother Killian remarks as he presents me with a present. A silver sand dollar pendant that he bought on his last Navy exposition.
"Thank you so much. I love it!"
"I got it from this spectacular village in…"
As Killian begins another long story about his expedition, I settle in resting on his chest. A contented signed escapes my lips, as I realize I'm home.
"Sister, where are you?"
I fly from Killian, across my bedroom chamber to embrace my other brother Liam.
"Killian was just telling me the most wonderful story", I say, " about the place you went on your expedition. I still don't understand why I can't go with you. Can I please, please go on your next one?"
"Alaina you know what my answer will always be. Killian, our king requested an audience with me. I shall go now and report what his request was when I return. Good day."
I fall back against Killian's chest tears stinging my eyes. Why couldn't Liam understand how important this was to me?
"It's okay, love." Killian embraces me and begins to stroke my hair. "I understand. The sea is in you blood, as it is in mine and in Liam's. He just always will do the proper thing. How about I finish my story?"
I half-listen while Killian recites his story. I always hate that my fate will be decided by males, more specifically my eldest brother. It just isn't fair. Liam will never understand me. Why can't I find my own happy ending?
