The girl smiled staring down at the leaflett in her hands. 'luscious jewels and large sums of gold to be transported to the Tennyson palace in a week time'
She smiled letting her legs swing down over the side of the veranda. There was no way she could miss this moment. Her mind kept dreaming back to the orphanage and the fruit shop keeper. He was in large debt to the king. She smiled tucking the piece of paper into brown leather pocketed pants. 'What are you doing?' She turned round to see the cat walking up behind her.
"Huh? Me?" She shook her head. "Nothing" she told him. "Just...Looking up at the sky" She smiled looking up at the clear blue sky. He came down and sat next to her. 'I know you're up to something" he told her mentally. She smiled shaking her head. "Grandma's out for the day all I plan to do is sit down and relax" Gwen replied avoiding eye contact with him. He shook his head.
'I'll be watching you' he told her walking away. She just nodded looking down at her feet. "I better get ready" She whispered getting up and dusting herself off before turning round to see the cat still staring at her. 'Ready for what?' He asked.
Gwen gulped.
"I-I..um... promised grandma that I would take the jewelry back to the kingdom" She told him. He frowned nodding before walking off. "Few" She breathed out before she heard the sounds of scattering across the ground. Her eyes widened as she looked back over to the front door to see Django dragging an old bag across the wooden floor boards.
'Better take it back' He told her as he released the material from his mouth and left her. She gulped grabbing the bag and beginning to walk off into the woods.
A couple of hours later of wondering through the woods she came across a dirt path. She looked around sighing. She must've taken the wrong turn. In an instance she could hear horses behind her. She turned to see a blur before she jumped out the way into a pile of mud. She groaned trying to lift herself up out of the muck before she felt another presence. She looked up to see the caridge had stopped. She gulped trying to pick herself up before the people came out. She trying to back away as they came over. An old man in a very fine expensive robe. It were purple, white and black. "Are you alright?" He asked extending a hand. She stared at him eyes widened. "Hello?" He asked trying to grab her shocked attention.
"Are you okay?" He kneeled down next to her. She shook her head wincing her eyes. "You look like you could use some help" He took her arm gently and helped her up. "Thanks" She told him getting up and trying to get the dirt out of her blouse. He smiled looking down and noticing a bag. "What's this?" He asked picking it up. Gwen gulped trying to snatch it away from him until he noticed the guards. She winced bowing her head trying to avoid them seeing her face. "Um...I was going to d-drop that off at the orphanage" She told him as he nodded.
"My kingdom's close to another orphanage if you want me to drop it off?" He asked. She nodded taking a peek over towards the guards. "Thankyou" She told him. He smiled warmly towards her before walking over to his caridge. "Have a nice day" He told her walking off.
Gwen smirked before looking down at her blouse.
She groaned.
"That's not coming out" She muttered under her breath.
Nighttime.
Light snoring could be heard quietly through the room. A small cat laid itself gently onto the old woman's lap as she slept in the old, wooden, cushioned chair. The fire's warmth tickled her face so tenderly that it made a small unconscious smile cross her lips. Gwen smiled opening her eyes to see the old woman. She picked herself up from the floor and came over to her.
"I'll be back soon, grandma" She kissed the woman on the cheek before leaving and walking up the stairs towards her room. Quietly, she walked over to her wardrobe opening it to find her long sleeved shirt, black pants and hood.
She placed them on roughly the material scratching at her skin lightly.
She grabbed at the ends of the material bringing it tightly down her waist. They were old clothes. She really did need new ones but new she couldn't ask her grandmother. She grabbed a medium size bag tucking it into her belt before grabbing her mask and tying it round her eyes before grabbing the dark tubule material bringing it up and over her head.
It gently laid over her nose and mouth. She looked over to her window opening it and jumping out.
She raced off into the night dodging trees in the way at abnormal speeds.
2 hours later
Gwen noticed the upcoming kingdom in front of her. She leaped up onto the wall and climbing up to a large open window. She grabbed the ledge and jumped up seeing the large hallway.
The red carpet laid down in the center of the halls.
There were suits of armor on the sides of the medieval palace.
She jumped down with a groan before walking down the halls checking each room for riches.
Django licked his lips as he raised his head. He was thirsty. He got up stretching himself before looking over towards where the girl was sitting. 'Gwen?' He called out mentally for her. He wanted some milk or at least some water.
Gwen had no choice but to get some for him.
He hopped down off his masters lap and walked up the stairs hoping to find her sleeping in her bed.
He meowed for her as he walked into her room. His pupils dilated as he searched the room. She was nowhere in sight. He gulped as he stared across at the window. 'Gwen?' He jumped onto her bed before noticing a piece of paper under her foot. It was a leaflet. His eyes widened at the writing. luscious jewels and large sums of gold to be transported to the Tennyson palace in a week time'
'Oh, no' he breathed out jumping out the window and racing off into the night.
The thief opened an old wooden door to see nothing but piles of jewelry and gold...and...and. Gwen's eyes rolled back. She felt as though she were about to faint. She closed the door behind her softly and grabbed her bag opening it and filling it up before leaving the room. She chuckled lightly as she closed the door before turning around. Her eyes widened. Pikes and swords were aimed towards her throat. She gulped raising her hands above her head. "Back against the wall, Thief" She was warned. She backed away. One of them gave his pike to another as he came over to her with a piece of rope. He grabbed her arm and began tying the rope around it. She looked over to the guards in uniform wearing green hour glasses on their uniforms. She smiled noticing them lowering their pikes. She shoved him back into the men and made a run for it.
She raced down the halls the heavy beginning to hit her left thigh constantly making her a little unbalanced. She looked up and noticed a knight in black and red armor. He swiped at her. Her hand flared out as she jumped into the air.
Manna thrusted at him sending him flying into the wall knocking him out cold. She continued to run as fast as she could looking for a window she could escape out of.
'Oof' She fell to the ground after tripping over her feet. She shook her head attempting to get back up. It was hard but she managed it. She could hear thunder-like feet heading straight towards her. She gulped turning around and swinging manna towards them. It was like a bowling bowl hitting the pins. Strike. She smiled turning back round to and running. 'Oof' her head slammed into a man's stomach. She groaned grabbing her stiff neck. "ow" she mimed lifting her head up only to be grabbed by her arms. "LET ME GO" She yelled at him. "BEN, KEVIN" He shouted. Gwen looked up at him. It was the old man that helped her up. Her hands ignited in manna as she shoved him away. In an instance two men came toward them. She could hear guards behind her. She was trapped. She looked up at a glass window. She didn't have a choice.
She leapt out the window crashing into it and falling down 7 or 8 stories. She aimed towards the forest as she free falled and landed perfectly on her feet like a cat. She smiled breathing out before taking a step.
She winced as shudders of pain erupted from her left ankle. She screamed as she collapsed to the ground. 'My ankle.." She scrunched her face trying to rip the pain away. She clutched onto a nearby tree lifting herself up. She had to get out of here. In an instance a twig snapped from behind her. Her eyes widened; someones was close. She began to limp as fast as she could at least til the next tree a couple of metres away from it. She figured she could just hide behind it at least til they left.
'BANG'
"AHHHHHHHHH"
She collapsed to the ground in shudders of pain.
"Over there"
She groaned as she looked down at her leg to see a bear trap concealing her bone shattered ankle. She breathed out and raised her upper body tugging at the metal clamps but it was useless. She was trapped. She looked over to a tree nearby her. She figured she could at least curl up and remain out of sight until she figures out what to do with herself. "Hello?" She heard a male call out as she tucked herself away into the roots of the tree. She winced trying to tuck her leg in but couldn't bare to move it. She looked up to see a man in white shinning armor wielding a sword and a green and black hour glass on his chest. Her breathing stopped as he removed his helmet his brunette hair blowing so blissfully through the wind. She couldn't help but gaze straight into his bright green eyes; it was like watching the sunset. You couldn't help but draw your attention towards it despite the consequences.
"Thief?" He called out looking around. She brought a hand up to her mouth and closed her eyes careful he didn't hear nor see her.
"Here, thiefy, thiefy, thiefy" He called out to the thief like a dog. She groaned letting her head rest back against a root.
The knight turned to a chain. He walked over to it and looked to see a bear claw holding an ankle in it's grip. "Hey?" He called out to her. Her eyes widened. "Are you the thief that stole from my castle?" He asked. She gulped looking over to him and staring him in the eyes. The face of death. She was going to be tried, found guilty, tortured for months then burned at the stake. "You look like you're in a bit of trouble there, do you need help getting out?" He asked gently but she didn't answer him she was in too much shock. "Let me help you" He told her bringing his hands down onto the clamps. "Wait" She called out as he began pulling. "Ah," Gwen pulled her head back into the dirt. He kept pulling until he head a click. He smiled. "You can pull your leg out now" He told her looking over to her. His smile faded as he noticed her chest heaving and short tense breaths escaping her lips. She needed to see a doctor immediately.
He crawled over to her body picking her up off the ground and walking back towards the palace.
Max tapped his nails on the table as he waited for his grandson's return. He heard someone knocking at the door. Kevin turned to him uncrossing his arms awaiting Max's orders. "Open it" He told him causing him to nod and grab hold of a large wooden switch on the ground. He flipped it and down came the doors to see a man standing there with something in his arms. "Ben" Saundra smiled racing up to the boy hugging her before she looked down and into his arms. "Oh, my" She breathed out looking down at the unconscious girl. Ben walked into the room placing her down onto the table before looking around the room towards his dad. "She needs a doctor" He told them wiping away the sweat building up on her forehead. "Fast" Ben breathed out. "She's got a fever" Saundra intervened before shooing Kevin off to go get someone.
"What happened?" She asked concerned as she brushed the girls hair trying to keep her company. "Well she fell out a window then got caught in a bear trap. So yeah" Ben scratched the back of his neck. Saundra looked over to her blood soaked ankle. She gasped removing her boot to find large bite marks on her ankle as well as it being disfigured slightly. Saundra placed a gentle hand on it. It made Gwen groan and seethe through her teeth. "I'm sorry" Saundra told her removing her hand. In an instance a bright blue eyed redhead.
"Where is she" She rushed towards the table and grabbed the girls hand.
"How long's she been out for?" Lilly asked towards Ben. "Err... a couple minutes" Ben told his aunt as she looked towards her ankle. "Grab me some honey and strips of material" Lilly ordered as they raced around after the items. "Here" Carl handed her a pot of honey. Lilly instantly placed her hand into the sticky food and took out a pile rubbing it into her wounds. "Here" Kevin passed her some strips of white bandage like material. "Max can you remove any material blocking her airways" She asked him as she piled more honey into her wounds.
Max leaned over removing the dark cloth from her eyes, mouth and nose. He leaned down making sure she was still breathing as Lilly wrapped the material around her shredded leg. "The temperature should take a while to settle down in a day or two" She placed a hand on her forehead checking her temperature. "She's the thief" Kevin stared down at her. "Wait? What?" Carl stared down at her. Ben gulped. "I found her in the woods hiding. She was trapped down by the bear trap and was going to die; I couldn't leave her" Ben explained. "You did the right thing" Max placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled. "Did you see the bag of loot she stole?" He asked. Ben nodded. "I'll go get it" Ben told them walking back out the door. "In the meantime we'll decide what to do with her" Max looked down at her finding her looking somewhat familiar.
Gwen groaned in pain as she was grabbed roughly by two guards and lugged down a narrow stairway towards darkness. She didn't know what was happening. Her headache was beginning to get to her badly. She groaned as her bare feet bashed against the cold moist stairs. It was beginning to get really dark now despite it being the middle of the day. Not far away a man in a black robe and hood approached them. He had black pants and boots on but no t-shirt. He was a little chubby for a dungeon guard. "Is this our new guest?" He asked with a sly voice as the guards neared the bottom of the stairs. They smiled at him as the man pinched her cheek. She groaned snatching away from him. He chuckled.
"Oh my, aren't you a fiesty one" He laughed as he extended his hand guiding them towards a wooden cell in the corner passed the prisoners moaning trying to grab at them. Gwen shuddered at the diseased-ridden, poor people some of them looked as though they were seconds away from death. She was thrown into an isolated cage with dirt covered floor. She didn't move a muscle until the door slammed closed and keys rattled locking her in. She gulped crawling up into the corner and wrapping her arms around her legs. It was freezing in here.
The guardsman walked up to her cage and leaned over. His shadow casted over the redheaded girl.
"You're going to rot in here, you know" He told her smiling evilly towards her.
"You're going to die and no one will care" he laughed walking away.
Gwen gulped watching him walk away before crawling over to the door to check out the lock.
