Hey Guys, told you I had two chapters for you. Enjoy!
CHAPTER 1:
Beta's P.O.V
I was walking down a path of the forest just outside camp. I couldn't take this anymore. All the arguing, all the quests, all the torture. It had to come to an end. As I walked further down I started to play with my trusty pen, Riptide. Riptide was the sword I got from Chiron all those years ago. My sword was more formally known as Anaklusmos. Most monsters feared this sword, just looking at it usually made them burst into dust, but for those more stubborn Monsters, I was more than willing to show them a thing or two. I smiled to myself, remembering all the fights I had with the more powerful monsters. The Minotaur came to mind. I continued walking down the dark and gloomy path, its only light was of the sun passing over at this very moment. I was so deep in thought, I didn't realise I had made it to a clearing before someone coughed behind me to get my attention. As I turned, I saw a man. He looked normal enough; deep tan, thick dark hair that seemed even more uncontrolled than mine, and pitch black eyes. They were darker than the pits of Tartarus without any form of light. His pitch black eyes had small flakes of of white and gold streaking through the irises, reminding me of soft little stars twinkling in the darkest of nights that you could only see with super sight.
He slowly walked towards me, the black cloak billowing in the non-existent breeze as he made his way to me. The man bowed to me kindly, as though he was in awe of something. I still don't know if there was anything behind me. As he bowed, his cloak shimmered, stars coming to life on it like a mirage of beauty and power. Apart from the beautiful stars, there was a soft white moon on the bottom of the cloak, a comet soaring across his back, a few dright nebulas scattered everywhere and some planets resided on the hem line of the cloak, beside the moon. I quickly realised it was my solar system, although my many failed Science lessons told me that there was an extra planet. It was a dark planet with many colours swirling around its surface. A light blue section alerted me to water (or at least the planet's equivalent of water), while there was also red, purple, black and white all across the planet's surface. When I looked at the mysterious planet more carefully, I noticed a white cloud surrounding it; a version of the mist maybe? As that thought entered my mind, I figured out who the powerful being in front of me was.
"You wouldn't happen to be Lord Chaos, would you?" I asked slowly. I wasn't really one-hundred percent sure that this was my Great-Great Grandfather, after all, he only looked in his mid-thirties and the latest.
The man in front of me chuckled softly, even by his voice you could tell this man was a very powerful deity – hopefully he wasn't evil too. "I should be calling you Lord after everything you have done for Earth. It was the first planet I created in this galaxy and has more ability for life than the other planets. I prefer my home, of course, but Earth was always a close second. But to answer your question, yes, I am Chaos. Hold the Lord." I bowed to the creator of the universes, feeling utterly awestruck. He certainly wasn't what one would expect to be the Oh Mighty Creator. I just assumed he was an egotistic manic who only even gave a helping-hand when he felt that the planet would combust if he didn't.
I rose to my feet and looked at Chaos in the eye, "What is it I can assist you with, Lor- sorry, Chaos?" I felt as though I was on trial or something, my skin tingled as the creator looked directly into my eyes and responded.
"I came to offer you a proposition," he paused to smirk at my no doubt hilarious facial expression. Here Chaos, the almighty creator of everything that I live and breathe, was offering me, the son of Poseidon with a difficult past and heroic friends, a proposition. I nodded for him to continue once I had collected my thoughts and energy as to not explode with nervousness or nerve-wracking fear. "As I'm sure you've probably heard along the grapevine, I have a planet just near Mars - I'm sure you've seen it in my cloak," he gestured to the beautiful planet I saw earlier, "The gods know of it but not where it's direct coordinates are. On this planet, I have an army that travels the universe helping planets and galaxies in need. I believe you're perfectly suited to a highly ranked officer at the least. I would like to offer you the chance to become somebody else and help me make my army even stronger than before." To say I was speechless would have been an understatement, I honestly couldn't even think straight.
I thought to what he said. Somebody else. Stronger than before. This planet… Help me… I swallowed carefully, fear reaching for my throat. "But My Lord, wouldn't that mean that I lose my friends and family here?" I asked, I couldn't lose them, they were what anchored me to the mortal world.
My distress must have been rather obvious because he scrunched his eyebrows together. He then looked to me and his eyes softened, much like Chiron's when he realised I was a tad bit on the scared side. "I am afraid so. Heed this warning though Perseus, there is war coming and you are the only one strong and loyal enough to stop it. We need your help. If there were another way I would do it in a heartbeat, but I'm afraid there isn't. Please, I wouldn't dare take you from your friends and family if the universes didn't truly need it. I am begging you. Please." Chaos had a very compelling case and sounded very sincere and sorry about the whole problem, but something still nagged at my mind.
"What about Annabeth? How can I tell her that I'm leaving the-" I lowered my voice to a whisper here so nobody would hear me, "planet?" Fear hugged my heart, radiating through my body in shivers. I loved Annabeth with all my heart; how could I leave her so quickly?
"I'm afraid you can't tell her that. You will, and I am truly sorry for this, have to break up with her. I really am sorry, if there was another way, I wouldn't suggest this." I looked into Chaos' dark eyes, he looked like he was about to let loose some rain. I loved Annabeth, but I loved Earth too. That's when I made my decision as to how this would go about. I nodded and walked out of the forest to find my soon-to-be ex-girlfriend. I found her at the edge of the cliff at the beach. I carefully walked up to her and tapped her shoulder hesitantly, I felt how tense she was. She wasn't even the one with the entire galaxy riding on her shoulders with this conversation!
"Annabeth, we have to talk." I said, I saw the gears turning in Annabeth's mind as to what I meant by those five words. "I'm sorry, I can't date you anymore." I continued. Annabeth's eyes turned stormy grey and I watched as her once beautiful eyes turned into a fury of anger and heart break. I kissed her one last time, treasuring every second, at first she was shocked, and then she kissed me back. After that kiss, I left. I heard Annabeth come after me, but I towards the river just to my left, feeling the water surround my body and take me to the place I first saw Chaos. The moment I arrived, Chaos nodded and the world began to disappear around me. I was encased in black light, I felt as though my stomach was in my throat, and that I had lost my lunch. My queasiness was cut short, however, when I saw where we were. The sun shone brightly in the sky, birds were singing, and there was a huge path right where we were standing. Chaos was nowhere to be seen, but shortly he appeared and took me along the path. Every time I took a step, bright blue light travelled up my leg and up my entire body, over my head. After a while, I just ignored it, but we then arrived at the palace I was to call home.
We continued walking down the halls, twisting and turning in the peculiar maze. A large steel black door stood in front of us, its soft white light giving me an eerie feeling. "Perseus, this is where we discover what rank a person belongs to. Yours will probably be rather high due to your power and virtues, however I will warn you now, the commander is a bit… well, rude. Please don't annoy him too much though, understood?" He led me through the door what I assumed to be the Grand Ballroom. The walls were a deep purple with dark grey skirting boards. The light fixtures on the walls emitted a gentle white glow, illuminating the darkly painted room. The second we walked into the room, silence enveloped us like fog and everybody instantly stopped what they were doing to bow. Somebody walked up to us. This man had slicked back hair, cold brown eyes, an upturned and pointy nose and what seemed to be an aura of cockiness. As he bowed to Chaos, I noticed that he bowed way too low and when he looked at me, he sneered.
"What it this, my lord?" he asked, eyeing me sceptically.
"Dominic, speak to this man with the upmost respect; he is, after all, Beta Neptune, a great hero where he is from. Will you please be so kind as to assist him in ranking?" When Chaos called me 'Beta Neptune' I instantly realised that when he said that I'd be somebody else, he wasn't kidding. I was now Beta Neptune. Direct descendant of the King of Neptune. Proof of the king's 'indiscretion'. So nothing too different from before, I thought to myself.
Dominic fumed and roughly grabbed my wrist, dragging me to a seat with plush black silk and white metal holding the frame. An arm of the chair opened up, folding out until a screen emerged. The screen was black with stellar white writing forming the word "kRan" but then again, that was probably just the dyslexia. Dominic roughly pushed me into the chair, earning an "Oomf" from me and a snicker from Chaos. As I sat on the chair, memories flooded in my line of sight. I remembered my first kiss with Annabeth in the volcano, being judo flipped by Annabeth when I was at the Roman Camp, returning home to Camp Half-Blood with Annabeth holding onto my arm softly. Well, I guess you could say I just remembered Annabeth. Time ticked by slowly, tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. I tapped my foot on the floor, drummed my fingertips on the arms and stroked my imaginary beard, pretending to think. Luckily for me, my boredom got some laughter from the group in the room.
The screen made a soft alert sound and I looked to it. I concentrated on the letters, willing them to make real words and not the usual mumbo-jumbo I was so used to reading. Dominic's mouth dropped and he gaped at me angrily, I didn't realise why until Chaos spoke.
"Bow for Beta, Prince of Chaos and the Void. Second-in-command to the Army of the Protectors. Bow, for your Prince!" Everybody cheered as they bowed, grinning and smiling like I was some saving grace. As everyone bowed, I stole a glance at Dominic who stood at the back of the room muttering underneath his breath, glaring at me like I was a monster. I stood up carefully, watching as the blue light travelled up my body, leaving a glowing aura in its wake. It felt as though power was running through my veins, a tingling sensation covering my body. Pure white light completely encased my body, filling me with power. Pain shortly followed, enveloping my body in quick bursts of agony. I screamed.
White light changed to dark blue, fading as the scene before me changed. I was back at Camp Half-Blood, on the cliff where I had broken Annabeth's heart.
Her beautiful grey eyes were puffy and red, she looked as though she hadn't slept for days because of the dark grey bags under her eyes. Her once golden hair was now falling in messy ringlets down her back as though she no longer even cared what she looked like. Her hair fell into her steely eyes, and I realised that I had never stopped loving Annabeth. Was she even still alive? She would probably be long dead by now, since it had been a millennia. She murmured some words and began to say them louder.
"Where are you, Seaweed Brain? Where? I miss you more than you know." She started crying again, when I say crying, I don't mean bawling your eyes out like what the kids of Aphrodite do, I mean silent tears streaming down your face, and you're shaking so hard that you cry even harder. That is exactly what Annabeth was doing. I wanted so much to hold her again, just as I used to that millennia ago. I wanted so hard to feel her steel grey eyes staring into my soul like it was that easy. I wanted to be able to see the gears turning in her head, or to hear her laughter at my stupidity. Most of all, I wanted to feel what it was like to love something more than my own life. That's what I wanted more than anything. I heard a voice and I automatically switched into awake mode. That was when I woke up.
My friend was standing over my bed staring at me. "Hey Luke…" I said hesitantly, I knew something was up by the way he was looking at me. Luke knew the consequences of waking me up unless the galaxy was to blow up in a matter of minutes. So the problem must have been serious.
"Perce, get dressed. Lord Chaos wishes for everybody to be in the hall. Especially his Prince." He said sheepishly. Something you should know about Luke; he hasn't changed since his death on Earth. At all. Luke has sandy blonde hair with gold streaks in it, his skin is still tanned and his eyes still seem evil but that's just the fact that he had a super villain inside of his head and body. The biggest difference, apart from the hair, would be the fact that he no longer has the scar running along his face or the vicious smirk he wore towards the last few years on Earth.
Every time I saw him, I would be reminded of my journey on Earth. The betrayals, the pain, the suffering, my friends, my enemies, my victories and my Annabeth. Despite the memories he brought on whenever I saw him, there was no way in Codex I was going to end a thousand year friendship because he reminded me of my ex, the love of my life. So yes, in case it hadn't yet occurred to you, I refused to go into a relationship with anyone else.
Luckily, Luke was more than happy to remind me of his surrogate sister and often smiled whenever I told him he needed to back off slightly because of the memories. He always tried to make me laugh whenever the memories were too much, or, when I had a power overload, he'd try to make me smile. Chaos had decided I needed some real friends when I arrived, real friends who befriended me for who I was, not the power or rank I had. He loved to mess with the younger recruits who had essentially idolised the "Legendary Demi-God" by the name of Percy Jackson. It was awkward when they asked if we knew him but we would just say that it was confidential.
When we're in public, Luke will just call me B or P because they sound so similar and I still prefer to be called Percy. Now, enough rambling on Luke and who he's become since he joined the army.
I got up out of my blue four canister bed and walked to my closet. I pulled out a pair of black jeans, my training Ops squad shirt and my black high-top sneakers. I pulled them over my body and walked to the meeting room. As I walked, I fastened the mask over my eyes, blocking my face from view.
Even after a millennia, no-one would ever stop being amazed by the palace. Every time you took a step down the hall, a ring of light would travel up your leg, fading into your thigh. I pushed open the metallic doors, walking into the purple room that I had first seen when I arrived. My father sat atop his throne upon the platform, standing as I walked into the throne room. I bowed to him, "You called for me, father?" He looked to me, his black eyes spinning with pity. This wasn't going to be a leisurely visit.
"Hello, my son. Thank you for collecting him Lukus." He nodded to each of us respectively. "Sit, sit. I have important news. Regarding the Earthen Gods."
"Which ones?" I asked hesitantly, too afraid for an actual answer.
Looking to us both, he nodded, careful for our reactions. "The Greeks and Romans."
Hope you guys liked this chapter, I certainly enjoyed fixing it. :)
Here's your next question, dedications goes to those who get it right: What country am I from?
