spring

These days, a year after the memories began, he has learned to bear the weight of the life that he lived a millennium before, and the recollection of a kingdom as silent and white as winter. But this morning, the air smells sweet and fragrant, and he knows, with a start, that the quiet days of winter are gone, and spring has trailed her slender fingers of flowers and laughter into the world. He walks outside to see his white city is dazzling now, in a different way, filled with color and life. And perhaps now, now that the world he lives in no longer rings with echoes of a city and palace long destroyed by his sins, he can begin to live again without feeling the constant press of memories on his mind, and be both a man called Kunzite and a man called Kristof, and somehow, somehow find redemption. It is spring, after all, he thinks and spring is the time for new life - and he'd wasted his past spring with misery and despair. This year, it'd change.

The sun shines lovingly down on him, and he half-sees a city of gold and gardens, and a waft of rose fragrance from a passing woman only causes him to recollect even more. As he walks through Times Square to a nearby restaurant to meet up with an old college friend, he glances up at one of the billboards and nearly dies from shock. His sunshine girl from the past millennium smiles benignly down at him from an advertisement for freaking Rembrandt toothpaste. His friend can wait for three minutes while Kris fulfills a sudden, extreme urge to change his toothpaste brand. Besides, he thinks with a glower, the likelihood that Jaden's late habits have changed within the past six years is quite improbable.

second drabble done. :)

also: if you didn't realize, there's a significant time span between winter and spring - kunzite's memories are supposed to come bit by bit - the most important ones first - and, well, now, the less monumental things are starting to filter in.
