Chapter 1: The Avatar Awakens
With a jolt, a man awakens within a darkly lit room, panting and out of breath, Avatar Alex awoke to find himself, not alone in the room, as it turned out. Blinking slightly, he rubbed his eyes together and found that he was not wearing his glasses, he reached around, blindly for them but he couldn't find them. He found himself cold and discovered that his clothes had been placed on a nearby chair. The black clothes that he always wore, looked damaged but he didn't care, as long as he was warm, getting out of the bed slowly he dressed in the tattered clothes. He also looked for his Lightsaber, if he was going to find a source of light his trusty sword was it.
But that was nowhere to be found either, the small silver cylinder which usually hung off his belt wasn't there, Okay, that was weird, Alex thought to himself, "You're awake." He heard a female voice say, jumping Alex whirled around searching for the source of the voice, he found what he was looking for and when he did, a dark skinned girl of about 16 lit a nearby fire, "sorry," she said putting out the match. "We couldn't find anything else that fit." The girl stared at him with unearving blue eyes, she was eager to find out. about him, Alex could sense.
But Alex couldn't tell her anything that he didn't know, for he himself didn't have a clue about who he was. The girl held out her hand to shake, "my name is Katara," she said holding out her hand, she was smiling and blushing slightly, "Me and my brother found you," hesitantly Alex took hold of Katara's hand and shook it, he was only just now noticing Katara's strange assortment of clothes, she was dressed entirely in dark blue and wore a grey jacket as if to cover up for warmth, "be glad we did," she laughed, "otherwise you'd have frozen to death."
"Okay," Alex said nervously, he was sure that this girl, Katara was joking just to alleviate some of the tension. But Alex wasn't sure, there was a definitive tone in her voice which made him feel uneasy, Katara let go off Alex's hand and she looked at him rather expectantly, "my name is Alex," he said unsure of himself, he was sure of one thing though, one word that rung constantly in the back of his mind. A name, not his own but someone else's. A girl by the name of Ahsoka. And it was that name that still had meaning, something for Alex to find out.
Katara smiled and looked towards a nearby table, Alex saw that his familiar glasses lay there, now repaired, she handed them to him and watched as Alex put them on, that was better, at least he could see Katara more clearly now. "Nice to meet you," Katara said smiling, "Alex," she paused at the sound of his name, "that's a strange name."
"Not as strange as Katara," Alex said chuckling slightly, "who are you by the way?" He looked around at his surroundings and gathered that he was inside some sort of igloo like building, judging by the shape. Katara paused as she exited the hut as if hesitating to tell him anything, she looked like she was going to say something, but she refrained from doing so. Alex sensed the odd things she was thinking and thought that it would probably be better for Katara to withhold her information.
"A friend," she said instead, "you can think of me as a friend." She smiled at him and then asked "Alex, Alex Who?" At this Alex didn't have an answer, not because he wanted to tell Katara who he was, but because he, himself didn't know either. When she got no answer from him, she frowned and then left the room, leaving only Alex with his thoughts, was it his imagination or did he see the hint of something silver when she turned?
But it couldn't have been, his Lightsaber was lost when he fell into that icy water. A memory came into his mind, of someone telling him that the Lightsaber was equivalent to his life and that he should never loose it. A name came to him, Skywalker? Anakin Skywalker, his teacher? Something was coming back, slowly but surely Alex was having trouble placing his memory. He was certain that with time, his memories would come back in full. This was just a side effect of the regeneration, he told himself. Something that had to be coped with until he could figure things out.
Deciding that Alex had been in the room for a while, he follow Katara and found himself in a small wintery village, loads of huts and igloos were scattered around with people going about their daily lives, Alex had to blink twice because surrounding the village border was a wall made up of ice and snow. It was probably taller than he guessed, but he didn't pay it much attention. Suddenly he heard Katara's voice from behind him.
"Welcome to the South Pole."
Alex then found what he was looking for, it was dangling from the side of Katara's belt, a small silver cylinder with a hole in the middle, "You have it," Alex said without thinking "my Lightsaber," And then like a flash of lightning had struck him, his memory came back to him.
"Sorry?" Katara said confused, "What's a Lightsaber?" She then realised that the stranger was looking at the small silver cylinder device that was hanging from her belt. "You mean this?" She tried handing the device back to him but gasped in shock. The strangers eyes lit up bright blue, she knew what this meant, but it was impossible, there was only one? And yet her she was, witnessing a complete stranger going into the Avatar State...
