I'd like to thank the following user for reviewing the first chapter: CallMeMiles

Adrian Chase has had an eventful day. First, he's finally established a mutual partnership with Dinah, Rene, and Curtis. After that, he talked Oliver into using him to stop Cayden James. Next, Cayden and his cabal have discovered that he's a mole. And now, he and Team Arrow are going to find Cayden's thermobaric and secure it so Cayden can never use it to destroy Star City. Protecting this city is all he has left. He lost a wife, but he gained a new purpose... and maybe another chance.

Grabbing his Vigilante gear, he heads out to find his new partner. "Partner" being the key term here. He encounters two of Cayden's men on his way out.

He pumps a bunch of bullets into the Goon #1. The second goon grabs his gun, but Vigilante shoots his hand with precision. Vigilante smacks Goon #2 in the face with his gun and then flips him to the ground like a pro.

After that, he sees Black Canary fighting two armed goons. She was very graceful and ferocious, he can admit. She disarms them, whacks them with her stick where it hurts, and slams their faces against something hard.

"You came for me," Vigilante said, smiling at her.

"Oliver may be fine letting you die, but not me," said Black Canary.

"You didn't have to," said Vigilante.

"I had to," Black Canary insisted.

To Vigilante's surprise, Black Canary leans forward and kisses him right on the lips. After a couple coffee dates and a few team-ups, she moves straight to this stage in their "partnership." Maybe I do have another chance, Vigilante thought happily.

"Is not the time?" Vigilante questioned.

"No, but I've been waiting for that," said Black Canary.

Suddenly, they heard beeping. They turned their heads to the direction of the sound and...

BOOM!

The entire room comes down on them. Black Canary is pinned down under multiple beams, too hurt to even use her cry. Vigilante, on the other hand, was lucky enough to avoid getting buried.

"Stay still. I'll get you out," said Vigilante.

"Oh, I'm afraid you won't."

Cayden James and Black Siren walk into the room. Vigilante was about to draw his gun, until Black Siren unleashed her sonic scream. He is blown back to the wall and gets impaled through the clavicle by a rebar, leaving him hanging on the wall and grunting in pain. But it won't bother him. He's suffered through worse. Still hurts, though.

"Your ability to withstand extreme punishment is impressive," said Cayden. "But we all have our limits. Let's find Mr. Chase's."

Black Siren, however, hesitated. Cayden looks at her with a face that is a clear warning.

"Don't make me doubt your loyalty too, Ms. Lance," Cayden warned.

"Actually..."

Black Siren reaches for what appears to be a flashbang grenade, all the while wearing that devious look on her face. Cayden stepped back a little, having guessed what she is going to do.

"Loyalty was never part of my job description," Black Siren smirked.

"Don't make this choice, Ms. Lance," Cayden warned her.

"To be honest, Cayden, I made the choice a long time ago," said Black Siren.

Black Siren pulls the pin and drops the grenade. It detonates and flashes a bright light, causing everyone to avert their eyes. When the light passed, Black Siren was gone. No sign of where she could've gone to.

"This is a rather unexpected turn of events," Cayden commented, feeling betrayed.

"Yeah, it looks like I wasn't the only rat in your little cabal," Vigilante laughed, in spite of the pain. "Anatoly. Ricardo. You think they'll keep wearing the leashes you put on them? You're as dumb as you are smart, Cayden. No one gives a damn about your son."

"We'll finish this one day, Mr. Chase," Cayden promised. "Assuming the Green Arrow doesn't finish you himself first."

Cayden walks away, escaping justice once again. Vigilante struggles, but he can't remove himself from the wall. Black Canary was still pinned under rubble. No chance of both of them getting out with any help. Unless Green Arrow found Cayden's bomb, this has been all for nothing.

"Damn it!" Vigilante cursed.

"Adrian," Black Canary said weakly. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be," said Vigilante.

Fortunately, Wild Dog and Mr. Terrific showed up about a minute later. Upon Vigilante's request, the two help Black Canary first. As soon as her teammates removed the heavy beam off of her, she immediately approached the still impaled Vigilante.

"Go," Vigilante said.

"Not without you," said Black Canary.

"Cayden's gonna be coming for me, and I don't need you in my position," said Vigilante. "I have to get out of this city."

"At least let us help you off that, man," said Wild Dog, referring to the rebar.

"This is gonna hurt," Black Canary knew.

"It's never stopped me before," Vigilante said confidently.

Black Canary should be worried, but she just smiled at Vigilante for some reason.

Mr. Terrific and Wild Dog exchanged suspicious looks. Even with Wild Dog's mask, Mr. Terrific can tell that his teammate is thinking the exact same thing he's thinking about Dinah and Adrian.

"I'm coming with you," said Black Canary.

"No, you have a job and friends here. I don't," said Vigilante. "You've done what you can for me, but now I have to do what I can for myself."

"I just don't wanna think I'm never gonna see you again," said Black Canary.

"Gettin' really soft with me, huh, Lieutenant Drake?" Vigilante teased.

"Let's just get the doppelganger out of here," Wild Dog interrupted, annoyed and mildly disgusted.

In case you're wondering what happened to Adrian after this, it's as it said. He's leaving Star City. But the important thing is, he's not dead, unlike Vincent Sobel in the show. Kinda weird for me to pair Dinah and Adrian, but I tried to give them a different dynamic. Is it different?
