Well here is the chapter 2! Hope you enjoy it. Don't kill me immediately, just... be patient and read to the end!
CHAPTER 2
The next time he woke up, it was nine o'clock in the evening. The whole mansion was unsurprisingly quiet and peaceful, no explosion or gunshot to be heard. The brunet could easily figure out the reason why: none of his Guardians or Reborn at home to blow something up.
Reborn?
Where was Reborn?
Then he remembered sending his ex-tutor (honestly, more like torturer) on a long mission. He hadn't come back to the Mansion once since then so obviously he had no idea about what happened between the Vongola Decimo and his Guardians.
He wished he hadn't sent Reborn away. He wanted to be comforted then even by a Spartan sadist infant who kicked him on the face every time he acted pathetic. He missed being called Dame-Tsuna, missed being shot at usually. He hate pain, of course. He wasn't an masochist. At least he felt secured and safe and not… lonely.
The brunet always had headache around his Guardians and the mess they left behind resulted in his pile-up paperwork. He had taken the chaos from his Guardians for granted for too long. Gone was the days he being woken up at 5 in the morning because of grenade explosion or "EXTREME" yell, missed being furious about gunshot holes on the wall and the collapsed walls because some ex-prefect and illusionist decided it would be a great idea to play wrestle with illusion and tonfas.
Tear welled up for the uptenth time in a day, he seemed to have dirt in his eyes recently. He wiped it away with his pajama's sleeve then stood up from his bed. The still wet cloth on his forehead dropped on the sheet. He felt better anyway, he guessed. There wasn't a moment nowsaday he ever felt fine.
The brunette changed into more formal clothes, drank a glass of water then left for the kitchen to get some food. The cooks in kitchen surprised to see their boss go down stair the first time in several weeks to eat. They all feel kinda relieved. They knew he wasn't feeling particularly happy lately if the the Guardians' weird expressions everytime they caught sight of their boss was any clue. There wasn't any Family dinners any more. And Decimo rarely ever showed up on time for dinner. Lunch was also a big no-no and he always slept past breakfast time, pulling all-nighters like a bad-break habit. They doubted their boss survived on anything else other than coffee and Gatorade.
They made him a cup of coffee and some soup, didn't want to push his disgesting system too hard. They were worry. This was the second time he got sick in this month alone. He still looked too pale, the bags under his eyes were still a little too dark. But he brushed off their concern, as usual, with a tired smile. He gave them a two-finger salute, wished them a good night and grabbed another mug of black coffee. Some of the staff winced slightly as the young man excused him self from the kitchen, knowing his plan to staying up the whole.
He left for his office. The Mansion was deadly silent. Most people had finished their work and readied to call it a day. He entered his office, switched on the lights and turned on the computer after quickly scan the piles of paperwork on his desk. Nothing much, most was his Guardians' reports and bills. Some were from allied Famiglias. Some were reports of Shoichi, Spanner and Giannini's new inventions. Back to the monitor screen, he checked his new E-mails, one of the most secured addresses Spanner made for him.
The second E-mail on the list belonged to his first crush, the one and only Kyoko-chan.
They had been in touch ever since they graduated from Namimori High school. Not so long after the Arcobaleno battle, Kyoko-chan suddenly confessed her love to the young boss while they were cleaning the mess after their school's festival. Of course they were alone then since his beloved friends and Kurogawa Hana had given them a chance to be. He couldn't help but thanks them mentally. He remembered blushing madly then and having his first kiss ever. A week later, they had the most wonderful first date ever. The young boss considered their few years together the best time of his life.
The best time of his life not just because his first crush, the school idol was his girl friend. It was because his friends were still there by his side and the whole Vongola things was not a burden to him. Not yet. He did enjoy his school life really much with Kyoko-chan and all his so-called friends even though the 'so-called friends' included of a certain Spartan sadistic infant tutor, a certain bloodlust prefect and of course, a certain natural-creepy illusionist. He loved his weird Family so much that he made an oath to do anything to keep them safe and sound, and more important, happy. They were there for him all the time and it would be natural for the brunet to be there for them.
'Anyway,' He thought bitterly 'happy time won't last forever'
At least his didn't last.
Right after he celebrated his eighteenth birthday, the brunette was officially made the tenth boss of Vongola Family. He started feeling scared. There were more and more assassins coming to eliminate him. It was not a really big dealas the brunette and his Guardians defended themselves just fine. He didn't have a greatest hitman in the world as a tutor for nothing. His mother would be fine since Iemitsu had resigned/dismissed from his position stay with her. Basil filled the empty spot immediately. He had been doing even a better job than his former boss.
But his normal friends, who were not mafia but get involved in because of him, like Haru, Kurokawa Hana since she was dating onii-san and especially Kyoko-chan, were in great danger. They could be captured and held as hostage or worse. He shuddered at the thought of Kyoko-chan being kidnapped. He had resposibility, had people to watch over and couldn't stay with them 24/7. He wished he could just sent a team shadowing them every moments. But it wasn't that simple. It would raise rumors and talk and he didn't want that life for any of his friend.
Eventually he found a solution which probably ended in tear and heartbreak and nights drinking alone in the roof. Mostly his, so it was fine.
After the graduation ceremony, the newly-named mafia boss broke up with his girl friend right where she confessed to him, two wonderful years ago. He just wanted this moment over, so he could ask Chrome to do her little magic, spared Kyoko from anymore heartbreak.
As he expected, the beautiful girl teared up, shiny eyes gazed at him sadly and longingly.
A few intense moment of silence later, she finally found her voice to reply "I understood what you're trying to do and I appreciated it." She wiped her tear away. His hands were itching to do it for her "It was always for our safety. It was always to protect us that you have to sacrifice. I just wish we had meet under different curcumstand. Maybe we would have a chance"
"Kyoko-chan..."
"I am in love with you, Tsu-kun. Since the moment you confessed to me in your boxers. I treasure every moments we spent together. Please keep that in mind." And she hugged him tight and he hugged back just as fiercely 'coz this was probably the last time he had her in his arms.
He finally cleared his throat though, gently pushed her away "I got you involved, I put you and your family in danger and your big brother is a part of mafia. Why don't you hate me, Kyoko-chan?"
"Oh Tsu-kun! How could I ever hate you? You are the kindest, strongest man I ever know. So please stop selling yourself short"
The brunette stunned, not knowing what to say. The awkward silent remained for a few minutes until he decided to break it. "Will you be okay, in Japan, without me?"
"It will be painful…" Kyoko smiled sadly "You are my first love afterall. It would be hard to get over you"
"Don't worry. It won't be for long. Chrome is best at what she does"
"What are you talking about?"
"You won't even remember that we was in love, Kyoko-chan. It's like starting all over, but with less heartbreak and drama. You can't feel pain if you don't know you are injured"
"Tsu-kun! How can you even come up with something like that? It's not your decision to make. You can decide what I remember and what I don't" Cried the outraged girl.
"Try me" Laughed Tsuna. His laugh was cut off by a glare from his offically ex-girlfriend. His expression turned dealy serious "It's for the best, Kyoko-chan" he turned on his heels and walked away, left behind the weeping girl, the symbol of his old life in Japan.
He went home to pack. He flew to Italy the next day for his new life, left Kyoko-chan and the other civiliant friends in Chrome's care. He trusted her to do her job.
His Family also moved to Italy and lived in the Vongola Mansion not long after he did. Hibari, being himself, couldn't stand leaving Namimori and crowding in a place full of herbivores so he stayed at Japan, founded Foundation and did his own job. The young boss felt sad but didn't force him because he knew freedom was more important to his Cloud than anything besides Namimori. As the Sky, he must let the Cloud floating freely. Anyway, Hibari still respected his omnivore boss (somehow) and obeyed him (sometime), which was enough to make the brunette happy.
The young boss never regretted breaking up with Kyoko. She didn't remember any about Mafia and her relationship with him. She led an ordinary and happy life, which was described beautifully in her monthly E-mails. He felt happy and relieved at the same time whenever he read her E-mails. She was safe and happy. That was enough even if she didn't love him anymore.
All his Family were safe and stayed by his side, supported him in their own ways, which made him happy.
His naïve and innocent mother was happy with her husband, which made him happy.
His Kyoko-chan was doing fine, happy and safe in his hometown though she didn't know how much he loved her, which made him happy.
But happiness was never a long-lasting thing, at least to him.
In the last E-mail about a couple of months ago, Kyoko informed the brunette about her new boy friend, who she met in college. He confessed his love to her a few months before and she agreed to go out with him. She even sent Tsuna some pictures of her and her boyfriend.
He felt heart-broken. Which was ridiculous since he was the one who broke up with her. It seemed that he never really got over her, after all. At least she felt that he was close enough to inform him about her new "great boyfriend"
Or she was secretly a sadist.
In that case, she had done well.
He was feeling pretty jealous right now.
No, it was not jealousy. It was ENVY.
His blood boiled in his veins when he looked at the beautiful happily smiling face in the picture with a handsome young man. He wanted to fly straight away to Japan and burned her so-called boyfriend into ashes. He wanted to embrace her, tell her that he loved her and beg her to come back. He wanted it so bad it hurt.
But he couldn't.
He didn't have the right to take away her happiness. He was nothing to her but a person who had brought her so much sadness, hurt her feeling countless times.
He didn't deserve her. She deserved more. She deserved happiness, the only thing he couldn't give her.
He had to get over her. Kyoko-chan were never meant to be his. Knowing she was safe and happy was enough for him.
Wasn't that who he ever be? The one who sacrificed and lost.
With that, he wiped his tears away and continued doing whatever he was doing.
End of chapter~
No more 27k, just trying to torture Tsuna a little. Not much romance, mostly family fluff and hints only on some couples.
R&R please!
