Chapter 2

Thanks to my co-writer, kurounue13 (SamanthaJane13) for all the help!

I only own the characters Angelina Northe and her best friend Anne.

The Next Morning...

Angelina woke up at her usual time of six-thirty in the morning. She walked out into the living room and noticed that a certain Clown Prince of Crime was missing from her couch and her pillow and blanket was sprawled across the couch.

She sighed as she looked at the couch for a minute. "I thought he'd still be asleep." she said softly to herself. She knew he wouldn't be in the bathroom because the only bathroom that was in the apartment was in her bedroom and she had already gone through her entire morning routine.

Angelina felt almost hurt because he hadn't stuck around, but she soon shook it off and walked out of the dingy apartment. Her obsession with the clown slowly starting to deteriorate as she made her way home to freshen up and then would be on her way to Gotham University.

Three Years Later...

Angelina was now 21, and her infatuation with the Joker had faded a lot since she had broken him out of Blackgate and he had left her without so much as a note on her pillow. She was still upset and hurt and angry at him, but she barely cared about him or her anger at him now as she was finally able to accept that she was probably never going to see him again.

Angel had met up with her best friend Anne when she arrived at Gotham University.

"There's not much going on today, remember? Just lectures and stuff." Anne said. "Wanna stop in on any of them?" she asked. "Are there any worth seeing?" Angelina asked as the two walked down the packed hallway.

As the two were walking through the hallways there were posters for each lecture that were going on today. There were lectures for computers, sciences, literature, and then there was a poster that stopped both girls in her tracks. "Wow. Look at him." Anne said, noticing the man on the poster. "Dr. Thomas Elliot on the science of neurology." Angelina read the poster with the handsome man on it.

"Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Elliot...Anne and Thomas Elliot." her friend said dreamily. Angelina could've bursted out in laughter as she giggled softly. "I don't think you should go in there, hun. You might end up blurting out 'will you marry me' to him." Angelina said through her soft laughter. "One can only hope." Anne said.

Angelina shook her head. "Ok ok. Well let's go in there. I'm dying to see if you'll blurt out anything." she said as the two walked in to the crowded room just as the lecture began.

One Hour Later...

"Wow." Anne said dreamily. "His voice is more amazing than his looks...well actually they're probably the same." she said and Angelina giggled. "Oh my God. Ok, well I'll leave you to drool and I'm going to get some water from the refreshment table." she said as she got up and walked to the refreshment table.

"You go do that." Anne said as she continued to drool over the hot professor. Angelina smiled back at her friend when she saw her doing exactly what she said before she turned to the table as she got herself a bottle of water and took a sip. She heard people clapping as the lecture ended.

She put her bottle down as she clapped with the others. She hadn't really been paying any attention to his words, just blindly listening to him as she stared at him before she turned to get her bottle of water as the refreshment tables started to fill up as she sipped from her water again as she walked away from the table, listening to all of the talk of the 'fascinating' lecture that Dr. Thomas Elliot had just given.

She watched him clear up his papers. She couldn't help but smile at him before she looked away as she started towards Anne. "Wow." Anne sighed. "You're impossible, my dear." Angelina laughed at her friend. "You love me." She said happily. "Of course I do." she said with a smile. She watched as the doctor turned and he flashed a smile at her. Angelina smiled softly as she looked at him before she looked back to Anne who was gushing once again. "Oh my God, he's looking at you... a lot. Angel, what if he asks you out?" Anne babbled. "Would you calm down? He won't ask me out." Angel said.

"But what if he does!" she said. "Well, I don't think playing hard to get with him would hurt too much." she said with a smirk. "Woman if he asks you out you tell me how good he is in bed." She then shoved her friend towards the doctor. Angel looked back at her friend. "Let me handle this, Anne. I know how to do this." she said as she subtly walked through the crowd as she sipped her water, not looking twice at the doctor. "Woman?" Anne whispered at her. "What are you doing he's over that way you are going in the wrong direction!" Anne was obviously getting flustered at her friend's playing of hard to get. "Believe me, I'm going in the right direction." Angel said to Anne as she walked calmly through the crowd.

Thomas couldn't help but laugh silently at the two who were undoubtedly talking about him. He knew that there were other girls fawning over him as well, but the brunette beauty was the one that got his attention. Especially with those entrancing hazel eyes. He already felt himself wanting her even though he didn't know her. But, then again, when did that ever stop him.

He also knew the game she was playing. He knew that game better than anyone. There was no way she would be able to not look at him. Her blonde friend was still looking over at him, drooling almost openly he had to stifle his laughs. He kept watching the brunette and waited and waited...till finally she looked at him. She was turning to walk through the crowd as she and her friend were now heading to the door. The look only lasted a second or two before she looked away again and he watched, stunned, as the woman didn't look back at him once as she left the room, her friend following beside her.

"Well played." he said to himself as he watched her leave. This was the first time that Thomas had seen a girl playing hard to get that he actually wanted to succumb to her charms and go after her. But he played his game. He ignored her and continued before he turned to leave.

"I'll see you later, Anne." Angelina said with a smile. "Remember call me if..." Anne started before she noticed Thomas walking out of the lecturing hall. "Well, you know." Anne finished before she all but ran off. Angelina just smirked as she sighed softly before she turned and walked right by Thomas, not looking at him once as she walked past him and dropped her cell phone subtly out of her jeans pocket as kept walking without retrieving it.

I'll play her game., he thought as he picked up the phone and walked over to her. "You dropped this." He said before he handed it to her. Angelina turned around and smiled. "Oh. I didn't even notice. Thank you, Dr. Elliot." she said with an attractive smile. He gave her a smile. "You're welcome." Then, he turned to leave.

She smirked when she saw him leaving as she started to walk off as well, an action that surprised Thomas because that was always the moment that the woman would finally come after him. He stopped for a moment and realized she was still playing a game with him.

Angelina smiled when she heard him turn and stop as she subtly slowed her pace. But he acted like he was looking for someone else. Being oblivious to her.

"Looking for someone in an empty hallway?" she said loud enough for him to hear as she smirked. He started whistling as he continued to look around.

Angelina smiled as she stopped and turned around as she looked at him before she walked forward, just enough to where she wouldn't have to call to him when she wanted to say something as she stood her distance from him teasingly. "Nice tune. Do you know any Beethoven?" she asked smartly as she smirked. He started to hum Beethoven's 7th Symphony. Angelina giggled softly as she looked at him. He smiled back at her.

"I'm Angelina Northe." she said as she stepped forward and held her hand out to him. He shook her hand. "Elliot, Thomas Elliot." he said. She nodded. "Nice to meet you." she said. "Nice to meet you." he said. "Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way. Why were you following me, Dr. Elliot?" she asked with that smirk again. "Well why were you and your friend suggesting I would sleep with you girls?" he flashed a smirk that made her blush. "Well I was simply telling my gushing friend that you would probably take just about anyone home. And from the way you were looking at me then and the way you're looking at me now, I imagine your having a very..hard..time trying not to take me right now." she said smartly as she slipped him her number as she walked off. "But unfortunately for you, I've got my eyes set on someone else. So do what you will with that number." she said as she walked towards the door.

He smirked. "Fair enough, I'll go ask your friend out to coffee then."

"I'm sure she'd be delighted." Angelina said, smirking as she exited the building, leaving Thomas in shock and surprise once again. That was another way he always got the one he wanted.

One Hour Later...

Thomas had decided to do some digging up on the beautiful and mysterious Angelina Northe by doing what he told her he'd do as he was now sitting by the window in a rich cafe with Anne, who was trying as hard as she could to be as subtle as Angelina was being with him earlier, but he didn't say anything.

"How are you Anne?" he asked. "I'm quite well. And..and you?" she asked. "I am well." He gave her a soft smile. "Now I asked you to dinner because one you are a lovely lady and I'm sure you were hungry and two I want to know more about Angelina."

"Thank you very much...um, Angelina? Why do you want to know more about her?" she asked, not in the jealous way but in the concerned best friend way. "Well...I like her. And I just want to know more about her. What does she like?" he asked. "Oh, I see. Well she likes a lot of things. Anything particular?" she asked. "Places to eat. Things she likes for gifts. Simple things like that." he said. "Well she doesn't really like rich places like this. Mainly because of the way she grew up having to go to rich parties and restaurants, she just likes things to be simple. For gifts, she likes just about anything. Flowers, cute stuffed animals, stuff like that. But I will tell you what you really need to know. What she likes in a man." Anne said deviously.

"Okay. Makes sense." he said. "She loves a man that knows how to seduce her. But she likes to remain a mystery to the guys she goes out with. A man that can figure her out, but not too quickly or else she loses interest quickly. And she hates the guys that are too good. She likes guys that are good but know how to be bad. That's the whole key you need to know about Angelina." Anne said.

"And you can teach me?" He asked with a smile. Please., he thought. "Teach you? Oh no, sweetie, I don't know how the guys she accepts work their magic with her, so to speak, but I'm sure you wouldn't have too much difficulty with trying to get with her." Anne said with a smile. "She likes you enough already. She may not show it, but inside she wanted to gush just about as much about you as I did at your lecture today."

"Well then. cheers." He raised his glass. "And let the games begin."

"I wish you luck. She's quite hard to get with. She's only had about one boyfriend during the four years that I've known her and that only lasted for about a month." Anne said. "Oh, and one more thing. She adores fine jewelry and designer jewelry."

"Good to know." He smiled.

Meanwhile...

Angelina had gotten home and couldn't get her mind off of Dr. Thomas Elliot as she entered her apartment.

"About time, sweetcheeks." Anne said. "How'd your date go?" Angelina asked as she sat down next to her best friend. "He was sweet." Anne said. "That's nice. And did he take you to bed like you wanted?" she asked. "No all we had was dinner." Anne said. "Aww, I'm sorry sweetie." she said. "Well, it's Friday. Do you wanna crash here for the weekend?" she asked. "I'm not upset, it was a nice dinner. And pwease?" Anne asked.

"Of course, hun. You know you can stay here anytime. Unless I've got a man over, which is hardly ever." she said before she turned around and noticed a flash of red, black, and white go by the window. She froze as she looked at the window that now showed nothing at all. There was just the cold streets of the Narrows shown outside of the window. Anne had snapped her out of her trance as the two enjoyed their weekend together.

Monday morning...

Anne and Angelina were sitting in their class dying of boredom.

Today's literature class was covering a lesson they'd learned long ago and nothing about it changed. "Oh my gosh, I think my head may actually explode." Angelina whispered before there was a knock on the door.

"More-oh, come in." the teacher said, pausing his lesson. The door opened and a delivery man walked in as he came down the aisle of desks and to the front of the class as he read the package. "I have a package for a Miss Angelina Northe from a Dr. Thomas Elliot." the delivery man said and Angelina couldn't help the smirk that came to her face as she raised her hand. "Right here."

He walked up to her and placed a box on her desk. "Thanks." she said as the class around her, mostly the girls, looked impressed and jealous as Angelina slipped the box into her messenger bag.

"Alright, alright, settle down." the teacher said before continuing on with the lecture.

One Hour Later...

"Ok, you have to open that." Anne said as she had dragged Angelina back to her dorm to see what Thomas had gotten her. Angelina sighed as she opened the box and saw a black velvet jewelry box that had one of the best fine jewelry stores name before she opened up the box and gasped. "Oh my god. It's a crystal and diamond bracelet." she said, pulling it out of the box and the beautiful bracelet shimmered in the light as she held it in her hands at first before she slipped it onto her wrist.

"Wow." Anne said, amazed. "Oh my God. He must really be into me." she said, impressed. "Apparently. That bracelet is 1200 dollars." Anne said. "Oh my God." she said, taking the price tag from Anne as she looked at it. She then saw a receipt under the box. "Ok now he's just showing off." Angelina said with a smirk. "What is it?" Anne asked. "He paid for this in cash." Angelina said, looking at her best friend. "Hey, he's got good taste." she said. "He definitely does." she said softly. "I think I'm gonna get going for the day. I'll see you tomorrow, Anne." she said, standing up as she gathered her package and put the jewelry box back into it before she stuffed it back into her messenger bag. "Alright, sweetie. I'll see you." Anne said.

The Next Morning...

Angelina woke up to a knock at the door. She opened the door and there were flowers sitting on her doorstep. She smiled as she looked down at the flowers before she picked them up and closed the door as she walked to her kitchen. She noticed a card as she put it to the side. She put the flowers in water and then picked up the card. I hope you liked my gift., The note read in Thomas's fancy handwriting.

"Why do I feel as if I'll be face to face with Dr. Elliot again today?" she asked herself before she smelled the flowers once more, not realizing the smile that was on her face at the scent, before she walked off to get dressed for her classes, making sure to slip on her bracelet.

Angelina and Anne were studying three things in the Liberal Arts. Literature, Linguistics, and Psychology, just because it was a subject they were both curious about and was actually interesting.

The two went through Literature class without any surprises, then Linguistics as normal, and the two were now sitting together in Psychology.

"Today we have a special guest to give us a lecture on psychology. You may or may not know him but he is the head of Arkham Asylum and if anyone would be best to deliver a good speech about psychology it would be Dr. Jeremiah Arkham." their teacher said as the door opened and in walked one of the most handsome men Angelina had seen since Thomas Elliot as she smiled politely along with everyone else.

Oh wow., she thought, impressed as she kept her eyes on him.

Jeremiah began to speak about the Asylum telling them about everything.

"Wow, how hot is he?" Angelina whispered softly to Anne, surprising both herself and her best friend. Angelina had always tried to play hard to get. To get inside the minds of her admirers. "I thought you were going to let Thomas go after you?" Anne said softly. "I am, don't worry. But can't I just look until he gets the balls to face me again?" Angelina asked softly with a smirk. Anne laughed at her friend as they continued to watch the lecture.

When Jeremiah was finished with his lecture, he was told by the teacher that there were about ten minutes left for class so Jeremiah called for questions and a few questions were answered and Angelina noticed time was running up. She smirked and slid a note to Anne.

Ask him if he's single. I dare you.

Alright. If he is I call dibs on him.

Good luck then.

Anne raised her hand. "Um...are you single?" she asked, blushing madly. He smiled at her. "I am. Why do you ask?" he asked. Anne was stuttering. "Well, it-I-I'm-"

"Oh my God, she wants to go out with you." Angelina spoke up for her friend. Jeremiah smiled. "Oh really?" His smile made Anne blush. Anne could only nod. "Y-yeah." she said. "Well." He smiled again. "Coffee?"

"Um, sure." Anne said with a smile. He held his arm out to her and they left for their coffee "date."

"And that's the end of class and we've made a love connection." the teacher said and everyone laughed a little as they were exiting the classroom. "Remember Anne don't do anything I wouldn't do and try and keep as calm as possible." Angelina said with a smirk as she watched her best friend go off with the attractive doctor. Anne waved back happily.

Angelina smiled as she walked out of the classroom and she walked out of the college, psychology being the last class of the day. She was used to hanging out with Anne after classes, so Angelina didn't really know what to do with herself as she walked through the campus and finally she was out of the campus a few minutes later.

"Angelina?" she heard as she turned around at the sound of her name. She looked up and saw Thomas there, with a bouquet of flowers. "Dr. Elliot. More flowers?" she asked with a smile. "Shouldn't a beautiful woman have beautiful flowers?" he asked. "I guess so if there's a man there to offer them." she said with a slight smirk as she took the flowers.

This time they were the most beautiful red roses she had ever seen. "These are gorgeous, Thomas. Can I ask if there's a certain occasion?" she asked as he led her to sit down on a nearby bench. "Do I need an occasion to give a woman I like flowers?" he asked. "Apparently you don't." she said with a smile. "I love them, Thomas."

"I'm glad you do." He took her hand and kissed it. She smiled as she looked at him. "I was starting to wonder when you'd find me again." she said. "I was wondering if you would like to go to dinner with me?" He smiled at her watching her smell the roses. "I'd love to." she said, finally letting her true feelings come out as she smiled sincerely at him. "Great, where would you like to go?" he asked. This is wonderful., he thought.

"Anywhere is fine with me." she said. "Well what are you hungry for? And your friend said you didn't really care for fancy places." he said. "You interrogated her about me?" she asked. "Asked. Not interrogated." he said. "Well I hope she didn't tell you all about me. I'd like there to be some mystery. Just so I can keep you guessing." she smirked as she kissed his cheek. "She did leave a mystery about you." he said. "Well that's comforting." she said. "Come pick me up in two hours and you can take me anywhere you want and ask me whatever you want to get to know a little more about me." she kissed his cheek one more time as she wrote her address down on a piece of paper and put it into his hand before she got up and took her flowers as she walked off to her apartment in the Narrows.

YES!, he thought happily. "Will do." He kissed her cheek. "See you then."
