To say she was nervous was an understatement. She was terrified. But at the same time, she was excited in the way she could do anything. But terrified. Remy didn't even know anymore. As her grandma would say, 'emotions are a pain in the ass'.
"Okay Remy, you can do this. Just don't burn anything, don't kill anything, and don't cut anything," she paused, "Okay, that should probably go under 'don't kill anything'."
And then she went back to pacing back and forth on the roof of the Empire State Building. You know, where she was going to meet the worlds greatest heroes... if they remembered. Remy didn't exactly make the first great impression when Superman and Batman swung by her house. She remembered, her grandma gave her a talk about that this morning. And the day before. And the night they were there.
"Don't think like that! Of course, they'll remember," she reassured and then paused, "Who am I kidding. Even I'd like to forget me."
"Why would you like to forget yourself? I think you're lovely," came a strong feminine voice. Remy turned around and almost had a heart attack when she saw Wonder-woman and Batman suddenly standing- well, Wonder-woman was floating, on the edge of the roof.
Remy actually wondered if she was having a heart attack because her heart was beating abnormally fast. Which arm was supposed to hurt when you were having a heart attack?
"Greetings, Heatstroke. It is a pleasure to meet you," Wonder-woman greeted with a kind smile, revealing a set of perfect pearly teeth. Only then did her grandma's screaming to brush her teeth properly seem to be important and not entirely crazy.
"G-greetings," she stuttered out, the formal word sounding ridiculous coming out of her mouth compared to the Amazon.
"I've heard great things about you," said the black-haired woman. Her hair was so shiny and so rich in contrast, Remy wondered if she was related to Rapunzel.
"Well um... I've heard really good things about you too. I'm a big fan," Remy stumbled on her words, but they seem to come out on their own. Not in a good way though, "And my grandma is too. She wears your costume for Halloween."
In the end, Remy wondered if it was rude to throw herself off the building then and there.
Wonder-woman let out a laugh.
"Well tell your grandmother that I am honored." The redhead turned redder than her hair and she decided to shut up and not tell her grandmother that she didn't just tell Wonder-woman that she wore her costume for a kid's celebration.
"I suppose you've made your decision," Batman's spoke up for the first time since he arrived. He stuck out like a sore thumb against the radiant blue of New York's sky.
"Um... Y-yes sir," she nodded furiously, "I would like to uh... Take you up on your proposal." Remy has been rehearsing for this moment for the past three days. Grandma insisted so she wouldn't look like an idiot. And it worked.
"Good," Batman nodded, "Let's go."
"Wait. What? Now!?" Remy hadn't gotten this far during rehearsals.
Wonder-woman laughed.
"Batman, don't frighten her," she said, amusement evident in her tone, "She did agree to join after all. They need all the help they can get."
"Um... Who's they?" She asked now fully aware she didn't know what she was getting into. For all, she knew they were gonna stick her in the sea with Aquaman... That would actually be cool. She hoped they did that.
"She'll find out soon enough," Batman replied vaguely and turned with the dramatic flair of his cape, "Now let's go. They're waiting."
And he hopped off the edge of the thousand-foot tall building. Remy sprinted over the edge just in time for him to bring up the Bat-jet and fly away with a boom of his rocket launchers.
"Well damn," she commented in a daze while spitting hair out of her face. Beside her, Wonder-woman laughed and gave her a pat on the back. It was painful.
"Don't worry about him. He just has a thing for the dramatic," she said like it was the funniest thing in the world.
"Oh." Remy didn't know what to say to that except she thought it was cool and she hoped she could be like that someday... Yeah right.
"Let's go!" Wonder-woman suddenly yelled without warning. She started to float, and then with a sonic boom, she was after the Bat-jet leaving Remy stranded there with hair flying into her mouth and an awestruck expression on her face.
"That is awesome," she declared and then looked down and scratched her head.
"Yeah... I can't fly."
