I breathed slowly as I tried to rationalize what I had just done. I was angry, angrier than I had ever been, but I had also unlocked something so to speak within myself. 'I need to figure this out.' I thought as I tried to form a plan. I knew how to read and write, even if it's basic and piss poor.
So if I were able to find a library, I could look up what I just achieved. And possibly other subjects if I could find any. I nodded at my plan but decided to act upon it later, as my hunger caught up with me.
The growling in my stomach was like a beast as its claws dug into my mind. I needed to find some food. I didn't know where to find a vendor or restaurant. 'Or I may decide to feast on some humans.' I joked darkly with myself as I began to leave the shop.
I opened the door slightly to peek through it. I didn't see anyone passing and I quickly went out, closing the door behind me. 'I'll have to stay here for now.' I decided. The old dilapidated place was probably the nicest place I've ever seen, though it didn't have a ton of competition.
I quickly made my way down the snow-covered street, not feeling the cold as much as I previously did. I continued down the road as I tried to look for a place to eat, doing my best to ignore my empty stomach. I eventually found what appeared to be a corner shop in a more wealthy area of Mantle.
I quickly made sure my hood was in place and walked into the store, with the door ringing. He looked to the counter and saw a cashier in his early twenties. He waved towards me and I awkwardly waved back and made my way through the aisles.
They were filled with odd food, some of which sounded appealing. I looked around to see if there were other people around. There wasn't luckily and decided to pocket something. It was a small bag of miniature donuts. I placed them in one of the pockets in my coat.
I did the same thing with a few other snacks, such as smoked meat, bottles of water, and a can of something called coffee. When all of them were in my coat, it wasn't all too noticeable.
I quickly made my way to the door, before realizing that I didn't really know where the library is. I crooked my head towards the cashier and asked, "You know where the closest library is?"
"It's down the road. Keep moving down and you'll find it. It's a large building with Grimm statues on the front." He informed me. "Why do you want to know where it is?"
"It's for a project...for school." I lied, thinking on the spot. He thought it over for a moment and nodded.
"Ah! Okay, hope you do well on your project." He told me as I made my way out the door. I shuddered at the cold as I began making my way to the library while pulling out some of that smoked meat I had snagged.
I placed the meat into my mouth and instantly let out a moan of enjoyment. It was delicious! I quickly tore through the rest of the package, leaving me thoroughly full and thirsty.
I quickly uncapped a bottle and drank some of it and recapped it, placing it back in my coat as I approached the library. The cashier was right with statues of Grimm. There were two on each side of the stone staircase, with griffon like Grimm being displayed, with snow covering the top of them.
I made my way up the stairs and pushed open the heavy oak doors. I made my way inside and was fairly amazed by the size of it. The shelves filled with books that reached 3 stories! There was a librarian's desk manned by an older librarian with greying black hair. She gave me a small smile and a wave like the cashier did. 'Probably cause they don't know I'm a Faunus.' I thought to myself.
I mirrored her motions before passing her, into the halls of knowledge. First thing I need to find, a computer. I looked around for a moment, before seeing one in a more secluded part of the library.
I made my way to it and sat down, and attempted to figure out a few things. 'What's the thing that I summoned earlier.' I decided as I began trying to search for it.
It was an aura of sorts, so I looked that up. After a few attempts of putting it in, since I didn't know how to really use a keyboard, I eventually got it correct and hit enter.
The browser pulled up several results for Aura. I clicked on the top one and began scanning it. Apparently, Aura is the manifestation of the 'soul', which sounded really stupid to me for some reason.
It also powered something called a Semblance. I clicked on the link and began reading up on Semblances, which pretty much correlated to abilities that could range in a variety. 'Wonder what my Semblance is?' I thought. Having access to one would be really useful, but I had other things to look up, like techniques for thievery.
I was surprised when I actually found a plethora of things, from pickpocketing to conning people. 'Why the hell would they let people look up things like this?' I thought confused, though glad they did.
'What else? How about...the SDC.' I decided since they were the bastards that enslaved my kind. They were headed by a guy named Jacques Schnee and he had three children. 'Now that's some interesting info.' I thought as I looked at them. The middle child, named Weiss, was around my age and I could probably do something. I also heard mention of something called the "White Fang".
'What the hell is the White Fang?' I began typing in the organization. It was a 'terrorist cell' aka, a civil rights group. 'Don't sound that bad, to be honest.' They seemed to fight for equal rights for Faunus, which was good.
I couldn't think of anything else to look up but decided to try and get all of the thieving techniques I looked up earlier. I eventually figured out how to print them and printed them to close printer. I got up and turned off the computer and walked over to the printer, grabbing the various instructions and tricks and placed them into my coat pocket and made my way out.
The librarian waved goodbye as I exited the library and made my way down the steps, careful not to trip, and began making my way to Furs and Fangs.
I shuddered as I entered Furs and Fangs. I pulled my hood down and unbuttoned it. The shop was as I left it, messy and unkempt. I eventually sat on a stool next to the counter and began reading the techniques I had printed.
It was a few hours of reading before I began getting tired, but I wanted to get through the notes. I remembered that I got something else from the store and pulled it out.
It was a brown can of coffee. I pulled the tab open and started to drink it, slightly retching at the bitter taste, though it wasn't the worst thing I've consumed. I put it down after sipping it a few times.
I shook my head as I felt much more awake and slightly jittery. I focused on the papers and began finishing them. I eventually got finished with them and still had some energy. 'I could look around the place. See what it's got in stock.' I decided. This place had two stories so I wonder what the second floor was.'
I got up from the stool and stretched, cracking several bones. I started to walk to the stairs in the back, trying not to trip on the various clothes and rackets. I made my way to the stairs before I noticed there was a door beneath them. 'I wonder what's in the basement?' I walked from the bottom of the stairs to the basement door. I grasped the doorknob and turned it, causing the door to reveal a dark basement. Lucky for me, I've got night-vision.
The stairs creaked as I walked down them. I eventually got to the bottom and I marveled at what I saw. The basement had a loading bench in the back next to a workbench. The main attraction, however, was the crates that were in it! And I could tell they were filled with dust rounds.
'I guess that this place supplied clothes and weapons.' I mused as I looked around to see if I could find any weapons. I managed to find a small knife, roughly 8 inches and with a curved blade, clean even with the lack of upkeep. I gave it a few test slices and decided it would be a good enough weapon for me. I noticed some sort of machine with a tap.
I walked over to it and turned the knob on it, causing water to rush out. It was cold to the touch and I quickly retracted my arm and turned the faucet off. 'I guess it has its own water source.' I theorized before I widened my eyes. "I can clean myself!" I cheered before I calmed down. 'I'm going to guess there's a shower upstairs then.' I guessed before I started to go upstairs, careful not to fall down.
I closed the door behind me as I decided to finally check the upstairs. I eventually made my way up the stairs and saw there was another door at the top of the stairs. I turned the knob and opened it. Making my way inside, I saw there was a studio apartment, with it being in decent condition. I walked around, kicking up some dust that laid on the floor. I looked to my left to see a kitchen and held my nose as I smelled a foul smell.
I cautiously made my way to the fridge of the apartment and pulled it open and instantly moved back as the smell intensified as the rotten food and spoiled milk was fully exposed to the air. I quickly closed the fridge door as an attempt to stifle the smell. 'I'll deal with that tomorrow.' I decided as my energy I had gotten from the coffee began to wear off.
I turned to my right to see a living room area with furniture covered in dust with a T.V. on a black stand. I managed to find the bedroom, which was in a separate room. It was decently sized and had a dresser across the left wall, a closet next to it, and a twin sized bed that was placed it the far right corner. The sheets were black and were mostly intact. I sat cautiously and ditched my coat and laid on the bed and was taken back at how comfortable it was!
I started to fall to sleep as the excitement of the day and recoil of the coffee began to take a hold of me. I finally slipped into unconscious and took the best sleep I've had in my life.
I smirked slightly as I counted the money I had recently snagged from the poor sods I recently passed by. It had roughly been 6 months and I've never been better. I got healthier due to actually eating and sunlight. I still had pale skin, but it was just naturally pale, with only slight remnants of malnutrition. I also grew a few inches, to a 4" even. I also gained a bit more of meat on my bones, though my ribs still slightly shown through.
I counted the lien and placed it into my pocket and started to walk back to Furs and Fang. The snow crumbled under my feet as I pulled open the door. The store in front of me was in better conditions when I first found it. I picked up the strewn about clothes and tossed the racks they were on. The lights were also on, due to me snagging a dust generator from a...less than reputable person.
I tossed my coat on the counter and rustled my hair, which had a cleaner sheen to it. I went to the basement to see several crates close together, showing several plans on them. 'I guess I can do that job tonight.' I mused.
I had been doing minor crimes, like pickpocketing. But I wanted to do something a bit bigger. That's why I've been trying to plan a way to hit the local dust shop, mostly for lien to support myself.
That...and for the thill. It turns out that I gained a bit of adrenaline addiction after doing this for a few months, though I managed to keep it under control for the most part.
I cracked my neck as I sat cross-legged on a black mat in the basement. Ever since I unlocked my Aura, I've been trying to focus it into my Semblance, whatever that was. I hummed as I focused my mind and started to get a black aura around my form. It started to gain a dark purple hue and things started to shake and rise up.
I didn't know how long it was like that, but my eyes eventually opened as the items clattered to the floor as my Aura vanished from my form. I took a deep breath as I got up after meditating for an hour at my estimates.
I then moved up to my apartment. It looked a lot better, with all the dust being removed and the place relatively clean. I went to the kitchen area and pulled out some meat to cook for an early dinner.
I turned the stove on and began preparing my meal as I began to think back to the six months. I entered a bit of a schedule, stealing, teaching myself, training my Aura, and repairing Furs and Fangs. 'I don't like this.' I decided. Don't get me wrong, the life I have is pretty good, if a bit boring, but I didn't want to be some two-bit crook. I had larger aspirations and goals. 'Like getting revenge for Vaas.' I thought mournfully. I had accepted his death, but it still haunted me occasionally. His face when he was flat against the ground as Felix shot him like an animal.
I shook myself out of my thoughts as the stove dinged, signaling it was ready. I looked down and saw I had prepared a steak for myself. I pulled out a skillet and placed the meat in it after putting oil on it.
I stood against the counter in thought. Mostly about Vaas and his retribution. I wasn't stupid. On the contrary, I was really intelligent and knew that it would be stupid to try and assault Labour Camp Alpha as I would be immediately killed or recaptured. 'Though I'm guessing they don't know I unlocked my Aura.' I mussed as I thought about it deeper. 'If I were to get captured and not reveal my Aura, I could use it to break out and take Felix and Locus out.' I decided as I saw my steak was finished. I turned the stovetop off and put the steak on a glass plate.
I sat at the bar area of the apartment and started to eat the steak, finishing it off like my animal part. I put the plate in the sink and began preparing for the heist tonight. I went into the bedroom and changed into a different outfit. It consisted of a long black cloak with a hood that shadowed his face, which was covered by a black balaclava that covered my face besides my eyes. The rest of the outfits followed a similar color scheme, with my feet being covered by black snow boots with grey soles.
I rolled my neck as I left for my hit, being careful to lock the door behind me.
It was late at night when I looked upon the dust store, called "Coal's Burning Dust ". It was a modest shop, being a momma-pop shop and owned by a single guy. I entered an alleyway next to the shop and saw a window on the second story underneath a dumpster. I stretched slightly as I jumped onto the dumpster and kicked up the wall to the windowsill. I managed to grab onto it and pulled myself up to the small cove, careful not to fall down.
I pulled the window open and made my way into the upper parts of the shop. I pulled the window back down and tried to find my way to the stairs. I was nearly there when I heard a loud sigh from what sounded like an older man. It came from the doorway right next to me. I carefully looked inside to see a man sitting at a desk, focusing on some papers.
The man was black with greying hair, with man creases on his face. He was dressed in a shop keeper's uniform. He sighed once more as he tossed the papers onto the desk. "I can't do this much more. With Flynt going to the Academy and the SDC closing in on the shop, I don't have enough money to cover the bills." He complained to himself as he rubbed his forehead in frustration and stress.
I moved out the doorway and started to think. 'Could I actually steal from this guy?' What exactly gave me the right to steal this struggling human's money? My eyes narrowed at a realization. 'The fact that he's a human is enough!' I decided as I quickly made my way down the stairs to the actual store.
The stairs were behind the counter and I saw there was a safe underneath! I quickly knelt down and began trying to crack it. My safe cracking skills weren't too good, but they were good enough to open the safe. I pulled it open and saw a sizable amount of money. I quickly pocketed the money and began figuring out a way out. 'I could just go out the front door.' I decided. It was the most efficient way out, and going out the window would attract attention from the owner. I hopped over the counter with a small thud and made my way to the front door.
I was halfway through the door when the lights were turned on. I looked behind me and saw that the human was looking at me. That's when I bolted, hearing the man scream and most likely calling the police.
I eventually got back to Furs and Fangs but stopped in my tracks when I saw several Atlas officers in front of the shop. 'Fuck!' I thought as I started to run the other way, trying to figure out a way to escape the police. 'Wonder if the train is running?' I thought to myself as I tried to remember where the train depot was.
I eventually got several officers on my tail by the time I managed to get to the train depot. I hopped the fence, slightly wincing at the barbed wire, but disregarded it as I pushed on towards the train.
The guards shouted as they began to climb the fence and try and catch me. I looked around to see the train was beginning to leave. I picked up the pace and jumped on, grunting as I grabbed onto the ladder of the cart I managed to get on.
I jumped slightly as I was shot at, the bullets hitting the metal car I was on. I calmed myself and summoned my Aura, gaining a black Aura with dark purple areas on it.
I hissed in pain as I was struck by a bullet from a handgun. My Aura shuddered as the bullet hit, but didn't allow the projectile to pass through. The shooting stopped eventually as the train moved out of the reach of the officers.
I let out a sigh of relief as I dissipated my Aura and started to climb up the ladder. I laid on the roof and thought about my plan. 'I'll have to sneak in, find out where those two are and kill them.' I planned quickly. 'The best idea is to catch them while they're sleeping.' I yawned at the mention of sleep. 'Guess I should do that.' I quickly sat up and moved across the top of the train, eventually landing on a flatbed.
I laid back down and began to drift off into sleep.
I shuddered awake as I sat up, seeing that I was in a familiar train depot. 'Step one down.' I told myself as I hopped onto the gravel ground. It was still dark so there shouldn't be too many guards up and about.
I quickly made my way to the barracks of the guards. Since there were roughly 50 guards, as opposed to the 500 Faunus slaves, there were 5 barrack buildings, each holding 10 guards.
I knelt down and began sneaking through the first barracks, hearing the snoozing of the guards. I looked through the faces of them and failed to find Felix or Locus.
I growled quietly as I made my way out, careful not to wake the guards. The snow fell as I made my way to the second barracks. I really didn't know where they were, so I had to rely on luck.
I pushed the door open slowly and made my way through, closing it behind me. It was fairly dark, though I was able to see due to my Faunus traits. I looked around and smirked as I finally found Felix's sleeping form. I pulled out my knife I had kept on me and readied it atop his throat. 'This is for Vaas.' I told myself as I plunged the dagger into the bastard's throat.
I was expecting blood to pour from the implanted dagger. Not for the blade to bounce off due to his Aura. Felix's eyes soon opened and focused on me. He quickly sat up while chuckling out, "Look who's back? The bitch boy!"
I tried to back away but was halted by someone behind me. I crooked my head to see it was Felix's partner, Locus. He said nothing as he pulled his fist back and hit me in the face. I summoned my Aura at the last moment and managed to take the hit, though it hurt like hell.
Felix gained a wide smile at seeing my Aura. "Oh! The dog has been learning new tricks!" He mocked. "Though that means the dear old doctor gets to do his experiment. Knock him out Locus."
I attempted to get away, but the mute grasped my shoulder and proceeded to pummel me, chipping away at my Aura. It eventually broke after the fifth hit, shuddering as I began to lose consciousness.
Suprise! Volf has yet to get his revenge. This was pretty fast-paced and probably will be for a few chapters. I also didn't show any of the six months cause it would consist of wake up, go to the library, and small heist, and that isn't fun for anyone.
