Journal Two-Old Photo
In an old baby book there's photograph of a young alien girl. Her ensemble includes, a Christmas spirited turtleneck and jeans. She stands smiling brightly before a much taller, older woman who is also, smiling. The older woman has her arms crossed around in front of the girl. The girl has two long, flowing, golden, pigtails emitting from twin orbs-like buns atop her head and hang down around her face. While, in contrast the older the older woman's hung freely down her back in dark purple waves.
The girl is clearly the focus of the picture, even though the older woman dominates her in height. Almost, as if a great sense of innocence and youth emanates from her soul to capture the photographers attention. It comes mostly from her smile. The way it somehow manages to light up all her facial features. From her dimpled cheeks and the baby teeth to the way her eyes slightly brighten and raise her eyebrows into twin arcs. Happiness is within reach of this child and it shows. It would not take much to satisfy her.
This is a photo of a young moon-child and her teacher. The teacher is Mrs. Luna and the girl is Princess Serenity of the Imperial Kingdom of the Moon. She is my past and I am her future.
We are the same being, yet at the same time not of the same mind or body. I have obviously grown, quite a bit since this picture was taken years ago, while she remains captured inside the photograph forever smiling out at the viewer. She too, would have the thoughts and ideals of a much youger me. Therefore, it is easier for her to smile, because she is blissfully unaware of the harsh, cruel, realities of the world outside her happy existence, created by her parents. I on the other hand have had to learn to cope with and understand things her mind could never have been able to understand or cope with to expand my knowledge of the world in order survive.
I have learned much, since the time of the girl in the photo and though at times I become envious of her present, I doubt I'd ever give up mine to go back and live in hers.
