Katie's PoV
Katie was woken up by Katy Perry belting out the chorus to "Last Friday Night", which was coming from her new phone. Groaning, she turned of the alarm, with some difficulty, then slumped back into bed. Where was she? It took her a moment to remember that she was no longer at camp, in her cabin. She was back home, and she had to go to school. Her father had registered her into the school where her step siblings went…Great.
Katie got out of bed, stretching her arms and yawning. Rubbing her heavy eyes, Katie looked around her room, before heading to her closet and picking clothes which would make her blend in on her first day of actual school after nine years. Eventually she chose navy blue denim skinny jeans, and a grey v-neck t-shirt with green stars all over it. She also decided on her green converse shoes. She decided to take her navy blue, fake fur lined jacket too, as the temperature was decreasing rapidly overnight. She was really glad that she didn't come in shorts yesterday like Silena begged her to; she would have frozen in the few minutes she was standing outside.
Heading to the bathroom, Katie took a warm but quick shower, brushed her teeth, dried her hair and pulled on her clothes. She brushed her hair, it now grew halfway down her back, and left it open, only bothering to put her hair clip, shaped like a leaf, in it. It turned into her sword, Beckendorf had made had made her and Silena matching ones, except Silena's was in the shape of a heart. She carried her pair of celestial bronze hunting daggers in her bag, she wasn't sure what mortals would see them as, but she hoped nothing dangerous, she didn't want to be thrown out on her first day at school.
She wondered if her childhood friend remembered her. She couldn't even remember the names, if she tried names like Annabeth Chase, Percy Jackson and Piper McLean would pop into mind.
Katie grabbed her bag, and put the strap on her shoulder, letting it fall to her side. She then made her way downstairs, into the kitchen. The whole family was busily bustling around doing various things. Her dad was drinking coffee, sitting at the table reading the newspaper. He was the owner of a chain of very successful flower shops across America. Angela was standing ironing some random article of clothing, Sam was texting under the table, while the twins sat gossiping over their bowls of cereal.
"Katie, good you're down. School starts at 7:30, so you don't want to be late. Before you leave, what would you like for breakfast?" Angela sounded genuinely happy to see Katie. The whole kitchen went quiet, and the family turned to survey her. Flushing slightly, Katie just picked up and apple.
"I'm fine with this thanks Angela." Katie smiled at her step-mum who returned the smile without hesitation. Her dad looked at her and raised an eye-brow skeptically.
"What, no cereal? Is your mother not the goddess of it?"
Katie just grinned at him, her eyes twinkling, "After 9 years of non-stop cereal for breakfast, I think I'll pass on that offer."
Before taking a bite of food, Katie picked up another apple, and flung it into the fire saying 'Demeter'. The flames smelt like freshly mown grass, so she knew that Demeter had accepted her sacrifice. As she around, the whole family was looking at her with their eyebrows raised.
"It's a sacrifice to the gods, we do it at camp before every meal, its compulsory, and a tradition I guess." Katie tried to explain, and she was rewarded with a few nods, as o everyone went back to their activities, all except the twins, who glared at her and gave her a Freak look.
As she finished her meal, her dad stood up and said, "Kates, how are you getting to school? Shall I drop you? Or, the girls have a car, as does Sam, would you prefer to ride with them."
Considering that the school was only about a mile and a half away from her house, it was a considerably safe town and she didn't want to ride with "the girls" she said, "Its fine, I'll walk. I have to keep in shape after all."
"Sweetheart, how much more in shape do you need to be? You're so slender. I wish I could have your figure, but I'm too old, it wouldn't work for me." Angela joked. Katie grinned at her, hefted her bag on her shoulder and opened the front door, waving to her family as she left.
It was quite cold outside, so Katie zipped up her jacket and pulled the hood over her head. She rubbed her hand together for warmth as she made her way to school as quickly as she could. She arrived about 15 minutes later, as she took a wrong turn and got lost.
As she walked inside the warm reception area, she pulled down her hood, and walked over to the lady sitting at the desk. As she told the familiar lady her name, she looked through some papers on her desk before pulling out two sheets of paper. A schedule and a map.
"I reckon that if you remember my lessons around the school, Katie, you won't be needing that map. Katie looked up in surprised, then recognized the secretary as her old school teacher, Miss Hudson. With a grin on her face Katie thanked the lady, who winked at her and replied,
"No problem, oh and Katie…Welcome back."
Smiling, Katie made her way through the door, leading to the main building, before she looked at her timetable.

Katie was overwhelmed by her schedule. Surely she would fail Maths and Science, probably English too. The only lessons she would do we in would be Greek and P.E. with a sigh, Katie made her way towards her homeroom, checking the numbers on every class door.
She was only outside Room 25 when she was pushed into the lockers. The side of the locker cut into her face, leaving a long, deep gash on one of her cheeks. Katie pulled her hair clip out of her hair, waiting to she who attacked her before turning it into a sword., slightly dazed, prepared for anything, well almost anything, when she came face to face with her attackers. Her step sisters were standing in front of her, glaring. If looks could kill, Katie would be dead ten times over.
One of them, Katie couldn't tell the difference, put he face close to Katie's, her eyes narrowed and angry. Then she began speaking, in a hushed, but demanding and angry voice.
"Okay then Katie, let's get one thing straight. We don't like you. If you think that you could just waltz into our house and do whatever you want, then you're wrong. You may have everyone else fooled with your fake sweet attitude, but not us. We can see what you really are, a freak. Now, this school, this is our domain. You better stay within your limits, or we can have to whole student body turn against you, with just one simple word, your life here could be ruined…"
Her speech was cut of when she was tapped on the shoulder. The three girls, or as Katie thought the girl and the two dogs, turned to find that it had been Sam. He coughed awkwardly, and Katie was aware that the twins would look really bad right now, she had a deep, bleeding cut on her face, and she was being threatened, held against the lockers.
"So, um…I see you three are really getting on." Sam said, sarcastically, raising his eyebrows at his two sisters.
The twins must really have looked up to Sam (they really did, because he was popular.) because immediately they backed off, mumbling something or the other. Sam watched them leave, before turning back to Katie, who was sitting on the floor, leaning on the lockers, with her legs pulled up to her chest. He extended a hand, which she gratefully took, and stood up. Her legs wobbled a bit under her, but she managed to steady herself.
"Um…thanks." She said to Sam, who was looking at her really worried.
"You should really go to the nurse that cut looks horrible, most of these lockers are really rusted, you could get a disease, you might have to get a shot for it…I should have known, my sisters are jealous of you." He said
"It's okay, I've had worse. Why would they be jealous of me?" Katie said as she walked up to a water fountain, wet a tissue and began wiping the left side of her face with it, as the whole thing was coated in blood.
Shaking his head, Sam then began to lead Katie to her homeroom class. Katie was surprised that no one had heard he loud bang of her hitting the lockers. Only then did she realize that she was late. As she looked through the doorway of Room 17, she noticed the two girls sitting at the front. Ugh, why did they have to be in her homeroom? The twins looked up as Katie walked into class, followed by their brother. He said something to the teacher and she nodded. Before the teacher, Mrs. Harrison, had time to introduce Katie to the class a loud "KATIE?" was heard from the back of the class.
Everyone turned to the back in surprise. Sam raised his brows at Katie, and she continued to search for the source. Sitting in the back seat, next to an empty seat, sat Connor and Travis Stoll.
