"Taming The Heart"

Junior Davis

Junior Davis woke up with the same jolt as he did the day before. But this morning the feeling seemed stronger. Almost as if he was being pulled in the direction he needed to be. He was getting a little freaked out by this feeling, but deep in his heart he knew this was a good feeling.

He rose from the bed and stood on his feet, only to realize he couldn't hold his own body weight and that his head was pounding. He quickly fell back down on his bed and lay flat on his back. He hadn't realized he was drinking that much the night before.

The previous night, Junior went on a date with a girl. He couldn't remember what her name was, he only knew that she was an insanely gorgeous blonde. He went to the local club with her and had what seemed to be a good time. Junior was the kind of guy who liked to use girls. He would go out with one, use them, and then never call or see them again. He had become ashamed of his ways, but he found it highly entertaining. But last night, when he was out with this blonde, something felt wrong about it. Almost as if he were betraying someone. But he wasn't dating anyone, at least he wasn't dating anyone seriously. And he certainly knew he wasn't in love. Yet he felt deep in his stomach that he was betraying someone. That was why Junior got so drunk that night.

He reached over to his bedside table and opened the drawer. His fingers mindlessly found the round bottle of aspirin and he lifted it above his face. He forced his other hand off his forehead and opened the bottle. He took out three round tablets and stuck them in his mouth without having water with it.

Instead of moving anywhere, he just lay where he was and kept his eyes lock shut. After a half an hour, he heard his door creek open and footsteps on his floor. Since his head was still throbbing-less than before, but still painfully-he decided to ignore whoever was in his room.

Just then the blinds burst open and an immense amount of sun light poured into his large room. "Ahhh…" Junior groaned loudly.

Just then, the body jumped onto his bed and screamed loudly, "Wake up hung over big brother!"

Junior opened one eye slowly and saw exactly who he expected to be there. It was none other than his younger sister Dani. Finally he opened the other eye and Dani helped him sit up straight. "You are an evil little girl," he informed her.

"Why thank you," she replied back. She pulled him off the bed and dragged him down the stairs to eat breakfast. Dani prepared frozen waffles for herself and made a strong vegetable puree for Junior. She put the strange colored drink in front of her brother and he slowly lifted his head from the table. "What's this?" he questioned her.

"The same thing I make you every time you get hung over," Dani informed him as she brought her plate over to the table and sat next to him.

He quickly drank the whole drink in one swig and belched quickly once it was all gone. He glared at Dani and said, "You can never make it taste good, can you?"

"That would take the fun out of it," she said with a smile as she placed a piece of waffle in her mouth. Junior put his head on his hand and watched his sister eat. During the next ten minutes of Dani eating, the puree made Junior's headache subside to the smallest headache ever and he smiled at Dani. She may have been his younger sister, but she definitely was the more responsible sibling.

Kris Furillo

Kris Furillo woke up earlier than normal the next morning so she would be prepared to drive Jace to Freemont. She made her coffee and drank it in silence. Since it was so early, the paperboy hadn't arrived yet and Kris had nothing to read. Finally she finished her coffee and went to her bedroom. It was 5:30 therefore she had plenty of time to prepare.

She stood in front of her small closet with her arms on her hips and stared at all her clothes. For some reason, she felt like she needed to look nice. After a long time of thinking and trying on different shirts, she finally settled on faded blue jeans and a lime green spaghetti strapped blouse that fell loosely around her torso. She felt a little over dressed for just driving her brother to Freemont, but she knew that Jace wouldn't care what she was wearing.

Like the day before, she put on mascara, base, and lip gloss. She brushed her hair out and pondered how she was going to do it. At first she put it in a ponytail but decided against it. Then she put it in a French braid, but once again decided against it. Finally she decided to leave it down and show off her long raven hair that fell loosely at her shoulder blades. She then put on her navy blue Converse sneakers to finish her outfit. When she was all finished, she looked at the clock that read 6:15 AM. She then grabbed the bag by the door that had a change of clothes, food, and toiletries and slung it over her shoulder. She grabbed her keys and black purse and drove off in her car to her mother's house, where Jace said he would be.

At 6:35 Kris was prying Barb off of Jace so they could leave for Freemont. Kris knew it was hard for Barb, but Jace had to do this and Barb had to let go of her son. "Mom, you need to let go of him. He'll be fine," Kris said to her mother as she was sobbing again.

"I love you, mom," Jace said one last time to Barb.

"I love you too, Jace," Barb said as she finally was calming down again. "Be safe."

Jace and Kris got in her Honda Accord and drove off to Freemont. Kris got chills and Jace got really nervous. They both were really excited, but Kris wasn't sure why she was. She had to say goodbye to her brother, so why was she so happy?

Two hours passed by and they finally were at the airport. Jace grabbed his suitcases from the trunk of the car and both Jace and Kris walked hand in hand into the airport. When Jace saw his group, he knew it was time to say goodbye to his little sister. He stopped where he was and looked at Kris. She had begun to tear up and he quickly put his bags down so he could fully hug her.

"I know you have to do this and everything, but I'm going to miss you so much," Kris spoke into his shoulder as her tears soaked his shirt.

"I know, and I'm going to miss you too. I love you, Kris," Jace admitted as he held back tears of his own.

"I love you too, Jace." Kris finally let go, seeing as she didn't want to be like her mother and never let him go. He bent down and picked up his bags and began to walk off. When he was about to approach his group, he looked back and waved to Kris. She fought more oncoming tears as she waved back to her brother, unsure of when she would ever see him again.

Junior Davis

Again, Junior found himself at Raintree, completely unaware of why he was drawn there. All he knew was that he needed to be there. He was being pulled there, against his will. At least his headache was completely gone and he could go about his day normally now. He found Matt in his house, staring at a mound of paperwork. Junior walked up to him and said, "Dude, why isn't Jean doing that stuff?" he was referring to Matt's mother and co-owner of Raintree with Matt, Jean.

"She's out of town for the day. I have to figure out this stuff," Matt said as he scratched his head. "Why are you here again?"

"I really don't know. What, do you not want me here?" Junior asked his friend.

"Oh, that's not it at all. I just, oh never mind. I have to go to the practice track now anyway, you wanna come?" Matt asked, glad he was going somewhere that didn't include paperwork.

"Sure, why not?" Junior found himself compelled to tag along.

They walked out to the track together and Junior joked with Matt, saying Matt had no skills in doing paperwork. Matt gladly owned up to this fact and didn't want to think about the fact that someday he would have to do it and not pawn it off on his mother.

They stood at the gate that surrounded the track and watched the horse run around. Matt was more impressed than the day before, but he knew the times weren't what they could be. Junior turned around and his heart skipped a beat. Finally he knew why he had been feeling so strange, why he was waking up in a jolt, why his stomach was turning in knots, why he felt like he was betraying someone. He saw the most beautiful woman step out of her car and walk slowly into the stable.

Kris Furillo

Kris got back into her car and drove. She was so sad that her brother just left, so she felt like she had to get her mind off of him. She drove around aimlessly, seeing what Freemont was like and at the same time, looking for something for her to do. She found herself taking left turns here and right turns there and driving somewhere she felt she had to go, even though she knew nothing about Freemont. The car was taking her to unfamiliar territory, yet everything looked so calm and beautiful. She loved every second of her trip out to Freemont and never wanted to leave.

Then off in the distance she saw a sign. She couldn't quite read what it said, so she drove faster to find out what the place was. When she was in front of the sign, she read it and spoke to herself, "Raintree Farms. Hmm…it looks so lovely." She felt herself being pulled into the ranch and down the dirt road. She saw large fields and many horses, a practice track and a house and a stable.

She stopped her car in front of the house and got out slowly. She stood next to her car and stared around and the beautiful place that she never wanted to leave from. She found herself walking toward the stable and looking at all the horses. But one horse stuck out to her the most. She walked up to his stall and stood in front of the horse. At first he kicked and neighed, but then he calmed down and walked toward Kris' outstretched hand. She began stroking his fur and rubbing him all over. "What's your name boy?" she asked the large animal. Then she looked down and saw his nameplate. "Wildfire, that's your name? I love it," she said as she continued to stroke his large body. She felt like she could stay with that horse for the rest of her life and she would be the happiest girl on the planet.
