Not So Typical.
Chapter Two; The Date.
"Tell me again why you're making me have dinner with an Oakie?" Jason asked Zeke with a huff as they stood in his rather large dressing room. Zeke tsk-tsked as he helped the less-then-enthusiastic actor slide into his black tuxedo jacket.
"She's not an Oakie," the African-American overworked and underpaid man told the actor in mock-tone. "she's from..." he paused and picked up the packet of information regarding the contest winner from a small table on his right. "Albuquerque, New Mexico." he finished.
"Hey can I have these?!" came Chad's nearly begging voice from the other side of the dressing room where the closet area was. He was holding up a navy blue and white pair of Nike's, and staring at Jason and Zeke in wonderment.
"No." Zeke answered for Jason before going back to their previously interrupted conversation. "Anyways, you're doing this because it's a pre-paid expensive dinner at La Serenata De Garibaldi, all the money goes to that Save the Children campaign..." he paused and then added "Plus, maybe if the press starts to see you acting formal and serious again, some of this shit will be cleared up." he sighed. "You got yourself into this mess,Jason. Too bad I'm the one that has to get you out."
"Hey no one asked you to come up with some dumb contest idea, Zeke." Jason spat defensively. "I am perfectly capable of choosing my own dates and girlfriends." he added while straightening his tie and checking himself out in the mirror.
"Yes, and the ones you choose half the time end up being wanted in three or more different states, or prostitutes or something. I remember that one Deserie woman was arrested for arson in New Jersey." Zeke pointed out.
"The one he was with for a month?" Chad butted in. He was now trying on the Nike's he still wanted. "You have big feet Jason." he said.Jason rolled his eyes at both men- his agent and manager, but didn't comment.
"Yeah, his longest relationship too." Zeke snorted. Jason sighed, deciding it was time for a subject change.
"Hey what's this girl's name anyway?"
"Uh..." Zeke said, glancing down at the information packet. "Sharpay Evans."
Jason smirked. "Sounds insanely hot."
"Sounds more like a dog to me." Chad snickered. Zeke glared at him. "Don't you have a closet to raid?!" he snapped.
Sharpay glanced at the clock. It was half past eight, meaning he would be there to pick her up in at least twenty minutes- or so that's what she had been told anyways. She took a seat at the vanity desk that came with her hotel suite that she was staying at. She kept glancing at herself in the mirror every three minutes, but she couldn't help herself...she was about to go on a date with a Hollywood movie star, so she had to look absolutley gorgeous.
This is exactly what she'd been telling Troy over text messages. Her cell phone buzzed, and she grabbed it to see another text from him.
You're beautiful no matter what, Pay. And if that guy doesn't think so, then he's a dumbass. It read. Sharpay smiled, her best friend was so cheesy, but adorable at the same time. And he actually was making her feel at least somewhat less nervous. She quickly typed back a reply.
You're too kind, Troysie. I love you. ;)
Of course she meant 'love' in a friendship way, and Troy knew that. It just killed him that she only meant it in that way.
After sending the text message, Sharpay yet again checked her appearence in the mirror. She knew herself that she looked amazing anyways, since she had had her hair and make-up professionally done an hour earlier. She'd recieved the star treatment! Her hair was in a confusing style that twisted in tons of different complicating ways, but looked great none the less. She'd had fun picking out her dress earlier too- she'd went with a strapless silky navy blue one that cutt off just a couple inches above the knee, and complimented it with three inch navy blue peep-toe heels.
She really loved the way she looked, she just hoped that Jason Cross would.
Me too Shar, and remember what I told you- if he says he doesn't watch sports, he's just trying to sleep with you.And if he says he loves animals, he's REALLY just trying to sleep with you. came Troy's warning reply. Sharpay chuckled lowly to herself.
OKAY Troy, I remember. Gosh... :P was her answer. Her brown eyes widened in shock when she read Troy's next text message a couple minutes later.
Ok good, just...guard your carnal treasure.
--
Fifteen minutes later, the two friends had finished text messaging back and forth, and now Sharpay was nervously biting her lip and glancing at the clock on the bedside table. Jason would be there at any minute. She still almost couldn't believe that she was about to meet the one and only Jason Cross, let alone go on a date with him.
So she figured this would be a good time to somewhat practice what she was going to say to him. She took a deep breath and stared at herself in the mirror, trying to come up with something nice, intelligent, and sexy to say.
Unfortunatley, all she came up with was the single line;
"Your films will stand the test of time."
Five more minutes past, which Sharpay had been spending the whole time constantly repeating "Your films will stand the test of time." trying to figure out how and when to say it.
And then there was a knock on the door.
Her heart thundering vigorously in her chest, Sharpay slowly rose to her feet and made her way to the mahogany door. She was sure she was going to faint when she reached the door handle and twisted it to the right, and even more sure that she would absolutley die when she opened the door its full way and her eyes fell upon the handsome face of Jason Cross-her date.
They were both quiet for a while, just looking at each other, each with the same thought on their minds about each other;
So hot.
Jason was the first to speak.
"...Hi." he said politley with a smile. She only grinned and gave a small flirtatious giggle, at a complete loss for words.
"I'm Jason." he introduced himself, "And you're...Shirley, right?"
She squealed giddily, but shook her head "no."
"Oh sorry, was it...Chartruse?"
That's a color, I'm such a moron. Jason thought to himself.
Sharpay regained the composure she hadn't yet had, smiled, and shook her head again. "Sharpay." she managed to get out in between excited giggles. "Name is my Sharpay."
"Oh, right. Sorry. Nice to meet you Sharpay..." Jason smiled, not commenting on the fact that the sentence she'd just spoken made no sense. He paused, and then deciding that he should give her a compliment, added "Wow you're...pretty."
She squealed again, and Jason was expecting the basic normal "thank you", but instead got the blurted response of;
"Your standing films will test and time themselves!"
Jason blinked in confusion. "...Thank you?" he answered uncertainly. She nodded quickly, her blonde curls bouncing.
"Well, the limo's waiting outside. We have reservations for two tonight at La Serenata De Garibaldi." he informed her.
"Is that a resaraunt?" Sharpay asked in confusion. She wasn't used to all this fancy stuff. Jason chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah." he said, taking her hand and leading her out of the hotel suite. So far, his impression of her was hot, and defined the term he had never once believed, but now kind of did...'dumb blonde'.
He sure was going to have some fun with this girl.
"What do you think they're doing right now?" Troy asked Gabriella while chalking his cue stick, meaning for it to sound casual, but it really came out sounding desperate and eager. The two of them were at the bar playing their second round of billiards. (Gabriella had won the first round, Troy had been to preoccupied on his thoughts with Sharpay to pay that much attention to what he was doing).
Martha, the bartender, was leaning against the counter of the bar several yards away making googly-eyes at Troy, who was just trying his best to ignore her.
Gabriella remained silent while she rounded up the sixteen billiard balls into the triangle, as if pondering over the possibilities of Troy's question.
"They probably skipped the dinner. I bet they're back in her hotel room, panting loudly, gasping for breath. They're hot and sweaty, tangled in the bed sheets. He's probably moaning out her name as she shakes pleasurably from the last remains of her orga-"
"Gabriella!" Troy exclaimed, a disgusted look upon his adorable face, stopping the brunette woman before she got too much into her fantasy. She grinned.
"Sorry Troy, just being imaginitive is all." she said. Troy rolled his blue eyes, annoyed.
"More like perverted." he grumbled, shuddering as images that made him both envious and grossed out flashed through his brain. He really would rather not be having mental images of that Hollywood airhead naked in his brain.
Now Sharpay...well, that part wasn't so bad.
"Silly Troy, girls can't be pervs."
"Yeah?" Troy snapped, "Well what's your excuse, little miss 'gimmie dirty details' ?"
"Wow, this is really nice." Sharpay commented as she and Jason entered the La Serenata De Garibaldi restaraunt while holding onto Jason's arm.
"Yeah." Jason agreed absent-mindedly while waving to photographers, clicking away with their cameras on their way in. Sharpay was trying her best to ignore the photographers, they made her nervous and a heck-a-lot overwhelmed.
After Jason gave his name at the register, a waitor dressed in black formal slacks, a white button down long sleeved shirt, a black tie, black jacket, back loafers, and white gloves led them over to a table in the back.
"Here are your menus." the waitor said, handing each of them a menu before nodding and walking away to let them decide what they wanted to eat.
"Wow, huge menu..." Sharpay said, more to herself then to Jason as she flipped through the eight plastic pages of the menu. "This is insane."
Jason chuckled. "They don't have fancy restaraunts in New Mexico?"
"No, they do." Sharpay said, "I just never really go to them. Me, Troy, and Gabby don't usually do the whole 'fancy' thing...we spend a lot of time at the local bar instead." she smiled. "Oh and Troy and Gabby are my best friends. Well, technically Troy's also my boss too, and it's cool because the three of us have known each other our whole lives so I know he'd never fire me, not that he would if he wasn't one of my best friends anyways. Oh and Gabby's my co-worker..." she trailed off, feeling her face grow hot. "I-I'm sorry. I'm rambling aren't I?"
Jason smiled. "Oh no, it's okay. Go on."
Sharpay looked down and shyly shook her head. "I-I'm done." she answered queitly. Jason's smile had not yet faltered.
"So...what is it you do?"
Sharpay blinked at him. "Excuse me?"
"Your job...what do you do?"
She blushed. "Oh, right. I work at a supermarket. I don't plan on making it my lifelong job or anything though." she giggled. "So what do you do?" she then asked him, and then realized that that was probably a very stupid question since she, along with all of his fans knew perfectly well what he did for a living.
"Oh I mean...what do you do, when you're not doing...you know, what you do?" she corrected herself. Jason laughed.
"Well I'm pretty laid back when I'm not acting. Normal everyday stuff, y'know?"
"Oh cool, like...hanging out with your buddies? Watching and playing sports? That kind of stuff?" Sharpay questioned. He shrugged.
"Yes and no. I spend a lot of time with my friends," he said, leaving out the 'girl' in front of 'friend's, "I'm not too big on watching sports though. But I also like walking my dog...Chester." he lied, he didn't really have a dog. "I love animals."
Sharpay nodded, a wide grin on her face. Her grin slowly started to fade away however when she realized that he'd just told her he didn't watch sports and loved animals...now where had she heard that before?
"How long did she say the date would last?" Troy asked Gabriella, now on their eighth or ninth game of billiards- Gabriella had won them all so far, but decided not to rub it in his face. He seemed kind of down about something as it was anyways.
"I don't know, Troy. But how come you keep asking me about the date every five minutes?"
Troy scoffed. "Psh, I am not."
Gabriella crossed her arms. "Yes you are. Why?"
"I'm just worried about her, that's all." Troy shrugged, picking up his cue stick and taking his turn. None of the striped balls went into any of the holes, but he accidentally managed to knock one of the solid colored ones in- earning a shot for Gabriella.
"What do you have to be worried about?" Gabriella questioned suspiciously, taking her turn. Two solid colored balls went in. No stripes, thankfully for her.
"What if that Cross guy is just some horny bastard that just wants to screw around with her or something?"
"Ooh, now whose being 'preverted'?" Gabriella cracked.
"Hey don't blame me," Troy said, "you're the one who planted the idea into my brain in the first place,so blame yourself for my worrying." he lied. He'd actually been thinking it all along...excluding the graphic details part that Gabriella had 'so very kindly' put in.
"Yeah? So what happened to your 'I-don't-watch-sports-and-I-love-animals-and-that-really-means-I-just-want-in-your-pants theory that you told her at the airport?"
"Just wanted her to be careful." Troy mumbled, "Okay so it wasn't entirely your fault I guess."
"Whatever, Troy."
"Well, this is my stop..." Sharpay said once the limosine pulled up in front of the hotel. Jason, seated next to her, flashed her a charming smile.
"I had fun tonight." he told her, his arm around her shoulders. She smiled back at him.
"Me too." she answered. "I had a great time and I know I'm gonna remember this night forever." she admitted truthfully. "I'd never met a celebrity before."
"Oh, the term celebrity is but a label." Jason chuckled, "I'm really just a normal guy."
Sharpay nodded. "Okay..."
They sat in silence for a couple of minutes, which was broken by Jason. "Would you like...a goodnight kiss?" he asked her. Her heart started beating faster and faster as she nodded reluctantly and leaned in, growing more nervous then she already had been throughout the entire date.
When they kissed, it was nothing like one of those cheesy moments that you always see in the movies when fireworks explode and the whole world becomes 'magical' or something.
It was...sweet. Nice. And it lasted for about fifteen seconds. They both pulled back, Jason, with a wide grin on his face, and Sharpay wore a shy tiny smile.
"Well um...tonight was fantastic. Thank you, Jason." Sharpay said kindly after a few moments of silence. He nodded.
"The pleasure was all mine."
After a few more goodnight kisses, Sharpay was out of the limo and on her way up to the hotel.
She sighed dreamily to herself when she made it back up to her suite. "Wow..."
Author's Note: Crappy ending, I know...sorry.
And nooooooooo waaaaaaaaaay is it over yet.
Cuz what about Troypay? :o
And don't think for a second that Jason is now out of the picture yet either. :P
The story has just begun!
