As the timelord took the child from its mother he knew he made the wrong choice, her mother will always have rights over her child no matter if she gets adopted, this is the rule on Gallifrey, he knew this so why did he feel so bad about allowing the mother her wish, may be it was because he knew on the inside that the place for the child was with her mother no matter how much like the timelord she was, on the other hand he did not know if the child would be accepted by the timelords or youngsters of the species, he just had to hope that they would find a way of getting her accepted. Her mother said she would feel the same as other timelords, but would she though, shes part of a number of different species, timelord; human and kaled, not including the subspecies. Will she every truly fit in.

It was too late to turn back now. He explained the situation to the elders and they agreed to help the child, much to the elderly timelord relief. Not even a day after begin born Maria was put in the children's home in the main citadel of the timelords, on the next day she was adopted by a woman who had no proof of identity of who she was but the timelords were just grateful that Maria had someone to care for her.

If the timelord who had brought Maria to the planet had been present when she was going through the adoption process, he would have refused this woman in her plan to take Maria into her care, because he would have recognised her as the person who had caused the child to be put in Gallifreys care but by the time he found out who had adopted her it was too late, he could do nothing to prevent Kovarian from taking the child and forming her life in whatever way she wanted.

Kovarian had bought a House on a distant hill, surrounded by statues in the shape of angels, they circled the house and watched the area around ready to pounce on unsuspecting victims and protecting the inhabitants from both escaping and becoming injured, this was the perfect house for Kovarian as it let no one in and would not let her new child out, the inhabitants were only allowed to leave at a certain time but must always return by the setting on the second sun, if they do not return then the Silence would be after them to bring them back to the prison home.

This is where Maria spent the majority of the first years of her life, going to and from her nursery so she could spend time with children of a similar age, not that this helped her make friends as others did not want to play with her. Although she seemed happy and intelligent, walking at 2 months and talking at 1 month, speaking and writing all types of gallifreyan by the time she was 9 months, her home life was terrifying for her, she never felt a mothers love and she never felt safe, she had to learn hard lessons which involved torture being a daily event even at such a young age. On the day after her first birthday she arrived at nursery like she always did happy and joyful when she was hiding her bruises which no one ever saw, but when her carer Rachel came to pick her up, Rachel was told that she wasn't there, when she asked where she was, she was told she had been picked up, by her mother.
