About a month later Jamie and Eddie were welcoming guests at their engagement party. Frank and Henry had insisted on hosting this at a banquet hall and paying for all the expenses of it. Maya was the first of the officers from the 2-9 to arrive. "Hey Maya." Eddie smiled as she hugged her. "Hey Eddie, you look good. Where's Jamie?" She smiled. "He's over there talking to our old Sarge. You wanna meet him?" Eddie asked and Maya nodded. "Of course." They walked over to Renzulli and Jamie. "Hey babe. Maya this is Sergeant Renzulli. Sarge this is Maya, Eddie's partner." Jamie said as he wrapped his arm around Eddie's waist. "Hey Sarge. Nice to meet you, sir." Maya said as she shook his hand. "Please call me Tony, nobody's on duty here. Janko, I am shocked you have not corrupted her yet. Only took you five seconds with Harvard over there." Renzulli chuckled. "Harvard?" Maya asked. "Tony!" Eddie said simultaneously. "Yes, Maya, I went to Harvard law before I became a cop, yes I did graduate and yes I am licensed, but I much prefer being a cop over being a lawyer." Jamie explained. Maya nodded her understanding. Soon Frank walked over, and Maya tried to slip away but Eddie grabbed her wrist. "He's just a big teddy bear, Maya." Frank sent Eddie a look. "Frank this is Maya Thomas, my partner. Maya this Frank but I am sure you already know that." Eddie grinned as Frank shook her hand. "It's a pleasure, sir." Maya smiled. "Please, call me Frank when we're outside of work. You're Eddie's partner and that makes you family, like it or not." Maya nodded and Eddie smiled. "I told you." Eddie replied in a sing-song voice before running away, knowing full well Maya was following her. "Excuse me, Frank but I've got to go." Maya said chasing Eddie and smacking her arm. Frank watched and laughed as Maya caught up to Eddie. "I cannot believe you just did that!" Maya screeched into her ear quietly. "Oh please." Eddie laughed and walked up behind Jamie and hugged him. "Hey, Maya met your dad and hates me for it now." Eddie giggled. "Eddie, you could've waited." Jamie said taking Maya's side. "Yeah, it's all good though Jamie. I was just joking." Maya replied. "See she's fine. Now I am stealing you away." Eddie said dragging to the next room and shutting the door. Jamie pushed her against it and kissed her hard. His hands went to her hips and her's went around his neck. They pulled apart and smiled at each other. "I needed that so I can deal with my mother in a few minutes." Eddie whispered and he chuckled. "I'm so not ready for that either. I just hope my family heeds our warning. I also hope she can tune it down since we're in public." Jamie replied. "Me too. You ready?" He nodded and they went back to the party. "Sneaking away?" Danny teased. "Shut up Danny." Eddie and Jamie replied in unison. "Edit." They heard Lena call and rushed in her direction to avoid her talking to anyone without them present. "Mom." Eddie said as she hugged her. "You look nice." Lena replied and hugged Jamie. "Thank you." Eddie replied as she looked at Jamie. Jamie nodded towards Frank and Henry. Eddie nodded in agreement. "Lena, we'd like to introduce you to my family, we can start with my dad and grandfather." Jamie said as they walked over to them. "Hey Frank, hey Pop." Eddie said as they walked up. Pop turned to hug Eddie and Frank smiled. "Mom this is Jamie's dad, Frank, and his grandfather, Henry. Frank, Henry this is my mom, Lena." Eddie smiled. So far Lena was playing nice. She happily shook their hands and greeted them. "You two honestly support this relationship?" Lena asked. Frank and Henry dropped their jaws. Eddie grabbed her mother and dragged her to the side, telling Jamie to stay put. "Mother, you can treat me like dirt, you can completely disrespect me. You may not treat any of them like that. They are happy that we are happy. Why can't you be? Grow the hell up, be an adult and get the fuck out of this banquet hall before I have you forcibly removed. Jamie and his family some of the most respectable, loving, caring people in this world and you will not treat them the way you treat me." Eddie glared Lena down as she walked out and leaned back into Jamie's arms as soon as she felt his arms wrap around her. "I'm not letting her come to the wedding." Eddie said. "Okay. If that's what you want." Jamie said. "Can we take a walk, I need to calm down." Eddie asked and Jamie nodded. "Okay, come on Princess." Jamie took her hand and they walked out and around the parking lot for a few minutes. When they walked back in Henry immediately pulled her into his arms. Eddie smiled and hugged him back. "Thanks Pop. I needed that." Eddie smiled. "I am just glad she wasn't able to meet the kids. I would've killed her if she had said something to them." Henry laughed. "I would've helped hide her body." Eddie replied. Jamie laughed. "You have a family, right here. Don't worry about her. We'll love you twice as much as she can." Frank said as he walked up to them. "Damn it, Frank. Don't make me cry." Eddie said before hugging him and they all headed back into the banquet room. Jamie was holding Eddie's waist tight and she turned her head back and looked up at him. "You may hate me. But I am doing this, love." Jamie said and grabbed the microphone. "Excuse me, can I have everyone's attention." Jamie said and the room quieted. "Eddie, your mother's belief that we don't belong together doesn't matter. We both know that we do, everyone in this room does. My sweet Edit Marie, you are my everything, the one reason I am always excited to wake up in the morning. You are my feisty, sassy, amazing, beautiful, intelligent, determined, ambitious world. I cannot wait to finally be able to call you my wife. So, to hell with Lena. If she can't love and respect you than she doesn't deserve such a kind, caring, loving daughter who gives her everything for someone who will never understand how worthy, and incredible she is. I know I might be slightly biased but the best thing about you is how determined you are to be an amazing cop. You always strive to be better, no matter how good you already are. I am so proud of you. I always have been, and I always will be. You, my love, are my biggest supporter and my fiercest protector and I will spend the rest of my life being yours." Jamie said looking at Eddie. Eddie was nearly sobbing and Jamie had a few tears rolling down his cheeks as well. Eddie made her way into his arms and they held onto each other like they were the only two in the room.
