Chapter Two

Hailey wished she had ten pairs of eyes, that way she'd be able to look at any and everything. The magical community was absolutely amazing and she wanted to remember every single detail, it was special to her. "What's Qui-dd-itch..?" Hailey asked aloud as she read the name of one of the shops.

Minerva felt her lips twitch slightly at the name of her favourite sport. "Quidditch, is the main sport of the wizarding world. It is played on broomsticks and consists of seven players on each team." she explained.

Hailey had the sudden image of wizards in robes holding the broomsticks in between their legs and running around like madmen. She restrained the urge to laugh and instead chose to heighten her knowledge. "So kind of like..football? Are there International teams?"

"Football? I'm not familiar with that term. However yes, there are teams from around the world,"

"Which one is your favourite team, professor?"

The professor once again resisted the urge to smile. "I support the Montrose Magpies, a team that plays for the British and Irish league. Here we are."

Hailey looked up to see a large, white building. It looked very old and majestic. "Gringotts, the Wizarding bank. This is where you will deposit and withdraw any money."

"But professor," Hailey said, now realising something. "I haven't any money."

"Nonsense. Do you really expect your parents to have left you with nothing?" McGonagall asked. Hailey silently wondered what the professor meant when suddenly, she was met with a very unique sight. There sat before her, very ugly creatures. They were short with long thin fingers and big long noses. As Hailey walked down the marble corridor, she was met with their mean, beady eyes. McGonagall halted in front of one of the Goblins' desks and cleared her throat.

"I'd like to make a withdrawal from Ms Hailey Potters vault." she said taking out a large, golden key.

The Goblin bent low to take a good look at Hailey before sitting upright. "Very well then. Griphook!" And in came another Goblin with black hair and fang-like teeth.

"Ms Potter would like to make a withdrawal."

Griphook nodded. "Follow me, please." He led them into an extremely large cave, in which Hailey presumed to be underground. "In here, please."

In the cave like expanse, Hailey, the professor and Griphook were seated in a cart which immediately took off, speeding past the numerous vaults, until after what seemed like hours, they stopped. Hailey felt her head spinning in excitement as she tried to remember all the directions.

"Vault 687. Lantern please." Griphook asked of a very stern-looking professor. She handed him the lantern, and they both watched as he squabbled up to the large vault. "Key please,"

Hailey scurried over to hand him the key in which she had obtained from the professor. And then, with great magnificence, the vault door opened to reveal an enormous chamber, filled with gigantic piles of gold. Large stacks of silver and bronze piled across the room and left only a small path for any room. Then, there, at the very end of the vault, hung a row of portraits. Moving portaits.

"All yours, Ms Potter." Griphook announced. Hailey felt as if she were in a trance. Her eyes roamed the vault and she asked in disbelief, "Mine?" but did not recieve a reply.

As she walked in more deeply, she was surprised to find books. At the very back were piles of books and they'd all been organised, it seemed. Hailey looked over at them in interest and picked one up. 'My Diary,' it read, and at the very bottom was a signagture. 'Lily Evans,'. Staring at the book in astonishment, Hailey held the book close to her chest and picked up a few more, making a mental note to read them later on. As she continued walking-very aware of the staring portraits-she picked up a handful of coins of each color and stored them into the bag she'd been given.

"Will that be enough?" she asked the professor and after a nod of approval they went off to buy the rest of the school supplies.

After entering a few shops, Hailey arrived to Madam Malkins with her brand-new owl, Hedwig. The shop was small with a few changing rooms and many shelves with clothes and robes hanging on them. The walls were a creamy blue and the floorboards were oak. At the side of the shop stood a counter but no clerk behind it, but then, as if appearing out of nowhere, a rather plum woman popped into Hailey's sight.

"Hello dearie, Hogwarts I presume?" The woman asked, glancing at professor McGonagall. She need not ask, however, as she was already heading to fetch some black robes. "Stand on the stool please,"

So Hailey, feeling awkward and unused to such behavior, obeyed the woman and stood on the stool beside the blonde boy she'd just seen. He was small enough to be the same age as her, he had a pale complexion and dazzling grey eyes. His face was thin and blank and he gave off a sophisticated aura due to his high cheekbones. His expression of sheer boredom too made Hailey feel like this boy was used to being prodded by floating measuring tapes and scissors. Perhaps he was raised a wizard? Interesting.

"Hello," The boy asked, giving Hailey a short nod. "Is it your first year at Hogwarts too?"

"Yes." Hailey replied.

"My father's buying me my books whilst my mother is getting my potions supplies. Where are your parents?"

"They couldn't come." Hailey said, simply.

"Oh, that's a shame. Are they our kind?"

"As in wizard and witch? Yes, they were."

Draco seemed to understand the past tense Hailey used. "Sorry." Though he didn't sound like he meant it. "Anyway, what I can't wait for is buying a broom. First years aren't allowed to bring brooms, let alone try out for the Quidditch teams, but I think I'll bend that rule." The boy drawled, looking at his nails. "Are you a fan?"

"I'm sorry, I have yet to learn about the Quidditch teams to actually support any. It sounds like a rather interesting sport, though."

The boy looked at Hailey as if she were an alien. "Were you raised by muggles?" He asked sarcastically, not knowing how close to the truth he was.

"Something of the sort-" seeing the look on the boys face, Hailey quickly explained, but didn't understand why she'd need to."The only relatives I had were my aunt and she's a muggle along with her son and husband. They're horrible, really. Not all muggles though, just them. I don't understand why that's a problem though...?"

"It isn't really, I mean it isn't as if you had a choice. But still, try to learn more about our culture and traditions so no one ever mistakes you for a muggle-born or something."

"You're all done dear," the woman-who Hailey thought to be Madam Malkin-said. The boy nodded and looked at Hailey.

"I'm afraid I didn't introduce myself, I'm Draco Malfoy and you are?"

"Hailey Potter, nice to meet you, Malfoy" she said, shaking his hand. She saw how his eyes widened, and then glanced up at her forehead , and watched how his jaw opened wide but quickly close. Just as soon as it happened, Draco Malfoy regained his cool composure.

"Well, I shall see you around, Potter. Perhaps we could sit on the train together?"

"Perhaps." Hailey smiled. A man who seemed to be his father waited by the door and Draco left the shop with one last glance at her. She wondered why he'd acted so strange. Time flew by after that and Hailey was finished with her shopping, unfortunately meaning she'd have to go back to the Dursleys. Today had seemed like a dream to her and of course, all good things came to an end.

30 minutes later, Hailey found herself in Dudleys second bedroom, with his broken toys and computers covering the dusty floor. All her magical items had been locked up in her...well what was once her cupboard under the stairs. Every item, including her extra reading books. How could she be foolish enough to think the Dursleys would actually allow her the rights to her own possessions?

Sighing heavily, she tied hair up into a bun and began going through all of Dudleys old things, figuring out what to throw out or re-use. It took her a total of 3 hours to go through everything. In the smallest pile was a bunch of junk that was unable to be re-used. In the other pile that had been neatly stacked, was the bunch of junk that could be re-used. Smiling pleasantly, Hailey made her bed and threw herself on it in exhaustion. She looked at the clock (that wasn't even broken, it only needed batteries) that now hung on her wall, it was a quarter until 7. That was unusual. By this time, Aunt Petunia would have usually called her down to either eat or prepare dinner. Raising herself up slowly, Hailey tip-toed out of the room and down the stairs. She made her way to arched wall and peeked inside to see a very clean kitchen. Looking in the other direction of the living room, Hailey could hear Dudleys whining and Vernons complaining. "Uncle Vernon?" The man stiffened, but did not respond, neither did any of the other family members. "Well..I'll just be asleep in my room if you require me, goodnight."

Wondering what that was all about, Hailey shrugged and left the house. The sun was setting, and the sky had turned into a mixture between red and orange. With no goal in mind but to walk aimlessly, that was what she did. Hailey wasn't sure if she was even allowed to be out this late, but it was apparent the Dursleys were ignoring her, and she sort of liked it. At the same time, it made her feel more lonely than ever as it made her realise she truly had no one to talk to. Her mind drifted to Magic and Wizards. What a wonderful turn of events, Hailey wondered as she swung her arms around pointlessly.

So many questions filled her curious mind. What did Hogwarts look like? How were the classes there? What would she learn? Would she make any friends? What house would she be sorted into? How were they to be sorted? So many questions, and not one of them she had an answer. The sky was getting darker and darker by the minute, and Hailey watched as parents took their children inside for bed. She felt as pang of sadness, wondering if her parents would have ever done that for her...if only they were alive.

The darkness did not bother Hailey. She had learned not fear it, and never had a reason to. She always wondered why so many girls in her class were afraid of the dark.

"Hey Hailey! Want'a come play with us?"Charlotte, a blonde girl with pigtails approached her, waving over to her friends. "Please?"

Hailey smiled excitedly and nodded quickly before Dudley could come. She followed Charlotte to the large group of girls. She knew three of the other girls as they were in her class, however the other girls were from other classes. Charlotte pointed to each girl and introduced them however.

"This is Penny, she's in our class. So is Sally and Louis." Penny had dark, long hair and little square glasses, Sally had short orange hair with a red ribbon at the top and Louis had brown hair the was in one long ponytail. Hailey liked them immediately.

She sat in the circle with them all and looked around shyly. "We were just talking about our fears, I'm very afraid of the dark. How about you Hailey?" Charlotted asked, she seemed to be very intelligent for her age.

"Me too!" squealed all the other girls.

"Night time is the scariest because evil people come out in the dark."

"And monsters!"

"My mum always says there are no thing as monsters,"

"Um.." Hailey spoke up. "I'm not very scared of the dark, I like it actually because it's peaceful and quiet."

"Don't you get scared of being taken by evil men? My brother is always telling me stories about men giving little girls candy and then they steal them!"

"Well, I guess anyone could kidnap you while you're asleep in your room too. I also think the people who walk int he streets at night are really just alone and need friends." The girls gave her odd looks but Charlotte and Louis were looking at her admirably.

The next day, Charlotte once again approached Hailey and took her to the group where the girls were already talking. "I'm going to Eden," Sally said happily.

"What highschool are you going to Charlotte?" Sally asked.

"Just some boarding school no one would have really heard of." she replied. "How about you Hailey?"

"Same actually, although my school is somewhere around Scotland." The girls gasped.

"All the way there for a school?"

"Wow your parents must be rich!"

"I thought you lived with that Dudley Dursley boy. He's horrible."

"Um..yeah we're cousins." Hailey clarified.

"Well I'm surprised you turned out nothing like him! Where are your parents?" Louis asked.

"They...passed away when I was a baby." The girls all turned sober and apologized.

"Let's play Truth and Dare!" Charlotte changed the subject. Hailey looked away from the group for a split second, and there was Dudley glaring fiercely.

Hailey really did enjoy spending time with the girls though. She wished she could of continued sitting with Charlotte and her friends, but the Dursleys had forbid her.

[Change Of POV]

Charlotte was new to Magnolia Primary. It was different from her previous school in which she'd had to leave due to a 'bout of accidental magic. Of course, her father could get the ministry to obliviate the schools memory, but she felt she just needed to leave. She never liked that school anyway. Her mother was a muggle so she'd grown up in both worlds. Her new school was interesting. There was of course, the school bully Dudley Dursley and his gang of gorilla's. Then there was the teachers pet, Pennelope Sanders. The prettiest girl in the grade, Sally with her neatly styled hair and pretty clothes. Then of course, was the sporty girl, Louis. These four girl soon became Charlottes' closest friends and eventually she'd started sitting with all the other girls too.

Then, came the surprise. Usually, the type of girl such as Sally, would've been the bully (or so was the case in her previous school) and the nerdy little boy would've been the victim. But this school was all wrong.

The bully was the infamous Dudley Dursley. The victim was his cousin, Hailey Potter. The Girl Who Lived. It infuriated Charlotte that the savior of magical Britain was treated so badly but she knew she couldn't blame it on muggles. Just the boy and his parents.

She'd gone to her mother and father about this confusing dilemma. "Hailey Potter attends a muggle school?" Her father had asked in surprise. "Well it makes sense. Lily's sister is a muggle."

"How horrible, family shouldn't harm each other. They should be there for each other."

"Does she have any friends?" Carl, her father had asked.

"Not that I know of. I asked the girls about her and they said she's very weird. She makes odd things happen a lot of the time."

"Accidental Magic, of course. Why don't you invite her to sit with you and your friends? Get to know her."

So Charlotte had gone to her friends the next morning and asked if she could invite Hailey, they had all agreed although a bit reluctantly. Charlotte was afraid that Hailey would indeed turn out to be some weirdo, but she didn't. She'd invited the Girl-who-lived to sit with heir group, and she opened up very quickly. Charlotte herself really enjoyed her company, so it was a shame when she couldn't sit with them the next day.

After that, Hailey had disappeared from their sights. They had seen her sitting by herself, wandering around or getting bullied by Dudley Dursely and Charlotte later reflected on how she could've intertwined and helped Hailey.

For the next time she'd see her, they would be wearing robes and carrying wands.
