Alone in the kitchen once more, Daphne tried to concentrate on getting dinner ready, but she just couldn't do it. She sighed, unable to quell her worry about the man she loved. The thought startled her, causing her to gasp.

Oh God had she really….

She didn't love him. It was completely impossible and even though she had successfully fought her overwhelming urge to kiss him while he lay helpless in her arms, it was just a feeling. It would go away in time.

But her heart knew better.

Time had only strengthened her feelings, no matter how hard she tried to will them away. And that worried her a great deal. But what worried her even more was Dr. Crane's health. It wasn't love, but a deep concern for her friend. He'd taken a terrible fall and he must be in a great deal of pain. She wanted so much to go to him, but his brother was so angry, he would be livid if she interrupted whatever it was they were doing in there. Certainly it couldn't be more important than Niles' health.

The worry within her grew when she remembered the seriousness of his fall. He'd hit his head not once but twice and there was no mistaking the dazed look on his face as Frasier dragged him into the kitchen. As a health care professional, she knew all too well how serious even the smallest head injury could be. And Niles head injuries were not small in the least. In fact…

Suddenly a flash made her gasp and her hand flew to her mouth. And then came the vision... the one that shook her to the core.

He was in his car, the fancy silver BMW that he was so proud of. The road ahead of him was blurry and he blinked, trying to focus. He was nearly home when he failed to see the oncoming car and-

The glass she was holding fell from her hand, shattering onto the floor. The vision dissolved at once, but the image that remained was accompanied by a painful ache in her heart.

Oh God…

She sniffled, realizing that she had been crying and with trembling fingers she brushed her tears away. She had to be strong, to pretend that nothing was wrong. But In fact, something was very wrong.

Try as she might, she couldn't will the vision from her mind, as it returned again and again. And when she felt someone enter the kitchen, she jumped in surprise.

"What happened in here?" Martin asked. "I heard something break!"
He heart pounded beneath her chest and she prayed that he wouldn't' see her tears. Because she couldn't possibly explain…

"Daphne, are you sure you're all right? You look shaken up." He asked, showing a rare side of concern.

She feigned a smile. "I'm fine. I'm sorry about the glass. I was just thinking about me mum and I guess I-."

Martin waved his hand. "Nah, no reason to be sorry. Frasier will get over it. It's just a glass. Why he insists on buying that expensive crap is beyond me. That Sharer and Woods place in Bellevue is the most insanely priced place I've ever seen! Who in the hell pays fifty dollars for damn drinking glasses? I've told him a hundred times before, the glasses at Dexter's Discount World are ten times cheaper and twice as strong!"

"Well, I'll get this mess cleaned up." She said, trying to find the dust pan. "I'm so sorry..."

"It's fine, Daphne and for what it's worth, I bet Fras won't even notice the difference. If he does, I'll tell him that I did it."

A genuine smile crossed her lips and she hugged Martin warmly. "Thank you, Mr. Crane."

"Just be careful with that glass. You don't want to cut your hand."

As he left the kitchen she stopped him at the door. "Mr. Crane?"

"Yeah?"

"How's Dr. Crane? He had quite a fall."

"Oh, he'll be fine. Just a bump on the head, nothing to worry about. Frasier sent him home."

She gasped in disbelief. "What?"

"Yeah, I think he'd had enough of us for one day anyway."

Worry filled her, even worse than before. "B-but he can't go home! He shouldn't…."

"Well you know Niles. Once he sets his mind on something there's no changing it. I'm going to go watch my program."

And with that he left the kitchen, leaving her absolutely terrified.
