Louella, Megan and Maemi were walking along the route when they heard someone shouting out for help.
"Maemi, it's Professor Birch!" Louella exclaimed.
"Buh, buh, buh, buh!" Maemi cried.
Professor Birch asked Louella and Megan to help him get rid of the Poochyena that was chasing him.
Louella and Megan each grabbed a Pokéball and threw it. Louella's was a little girl Mudkip and Megan's was a little girl Treecko.
"Tackle that Poochyena!" Louella called. Mudkip used Tackle on Poochyena and it fainted in one hit.
"Young ladies, thank you for saving me. I went into the tall grass to survey and research wild Pokémon when I was jumped by that Poochyena!" Professor Birch thanked Louella and Megan.
"Professor Birch, it's fine." Louella replied. "Mudkip saved you, not us."
Professor Birch looked at Megan. "I remember you, Megan." He then turned to Louella. "Now that I think about it, aren't you Norman's girl, Louella? And is that your baby sister Maemi I've been hearing about?"
"Buh, buh, buh!" Maemi babbled.
"Yes, that's us." Louella replied.
"I didn't recognize you, Louella. The last time I saw you was way before Maemi was born, when you were a baby. Louella, you've grown into a fine young lady." Professor Birch went on. "Let's go back to my lab."
He took Louella, Megan and Maemi to his lab.
"So, Louella, your father Norman has told me so much about you and Maemi. I understand you and Megan don't have Pokémon of your own yet?"
"No, we don't." Louella and Megan replied. They got the joy of their lifetime when Professor Birch let the girls keep their Pokémon as their starters.
"Buh, buh, buh, buh, buh!" Maemi babbled.
"Maybe when you're older, Maemi." Louella replied.
As the girls left, Megan went her own way and Louella and Maemi went their way.
They ran into Brendan on Route 103.
He saw a Pokémon sticking its tail out of the grass. "Louella, if you're as quiet as a Dedenne, you'll be able to sneak up on that Pokémon and take it by surprise." Brendan advised.
Louella held up the Bunnelby ears at Maemi indicating her to be quiet.
The platinum blonde girl snuck up on the Pokémon… and took it by surprise.
"Ha-ha, I should've known it would be a Dedenne." Brendan said.
"As quiet as a Dedenne… Ha!" Louella laughed.
Louella used Mudkip to battle the Dedenne. After giving it damage, she threw a Pokéball. It twitched once…twice…thrice…click! Dedenne was caught.
"Cute! Buh, buh, buh!" Maemi babbled.
Louella picked up Dedenne's Pokéball, put it in her bag, ran over to Maemi, picked her up, and twirled her around. "Maemi, you said cute!"
Louella put Maemi down. "Hey, Louella, good job." Brendan congratulated the platinum blonde girl.
"I'm going to name my Dedenne Ivy." Louella announced.
"I hope to see you soon, Louella." Brendan said, as he shook Louella's hand.
