-Chapter Two-

-Flashback-

A pair of brown haired twins were rushing around in the woods, their blue eyes greedily taking in the surroundings as they both desired to explore their new, temporary home for the moment. Wanting to soak in all the surrounding for quick getaways and nice hiding spots that would serve them greatly. The older twin of the two seemed to be pulling further and further ahead of his sister as she started to slow down. Her attention no longer focused on what was in front of her, but instead now focused on the older boy who was seated on a log they had been passing by. Sniffing as he stared down at the ground with a scowl.

"Hey!" she called out, making her way towards the boy who flinched, his head snapping up and looking around before his gaze finally landed on her.

"Don't go sneaking up on people like that!" he snapped, his eyes narrowing as his scowl deepened. "Who are you anyways, I don't think I've seen you around here before?" he suddenly asked as he got a closer look at the little girl when she came to a stop in front of him.

"The name's Skylar Strife, my brothers and I just got here" the brunette said, smiling. "Now, who are you?" she asked, pointing a finger towards the boy. "And why is your hair green? Is there something wrong with it?"

"There's nothing wrong with my hair! The names Roronoa Zoro and what do you mean you just got here with your brothers, what about your parents?" Zoro asked, raising an eyebrow as he curiously stared at the girl. Instead of answering, Skylar took a seat beside Zoro on the log and started to swing her legs back and forth.

"What are you doing out here by yourself?" she asked.

"That's none of your business, now are you going to answer my question or not?" Zoro responded, crossing his arms.

"Were you crying earlier? Why are you sad?" Skylar asked, once again brushing off the green haired boy's question as she looked up at him.

"I-I wasn't crying!" Zoro exclaimed, blushing. Soon he gave a heavy sigh as he drew his legs up to his chest, rested his crossed arms on top of them, and then rested his chin on top of them as well. "But, if you want to know I got my ass beat by a girl today" he grumbled, staring ahead with a frown.

"So?" Skylar asked, furrowing your brows. "That's not something to get angry over, geez, who gets upset just because they lost to some girl?" she questioned before smiling. "If you want I can help you with training, I know a few good training methods" she said, an emotion quickly flashing in her eyes before disappearing. Zoro raised an eyebrow before scoffing.

"Yeah, sure, whatever you say" he said, watching as the brunette stood up and stood in front of him.

"Then it's a deal, if I help you with your training, you become my friend" she said, smiling widely while holding her hand out.

"Now hold on, I never-"

"Is it a deal or not?" she interrupted him, shaking her hand so it caught his attention. Zoro huffed before rolling his eyes and smirked.

"Sure, it's a deal" he said, grabbing hold of her hand and giving it a firm shake. The days to come by were filled with a few surprises for Zoro as the young girl gave some helpful tips in training and had a few good ones to offer up to the green haired boy. Though it seemed strange as the training she suggested sounded like something a Marine would be put through to be prepared for the field. Though he didn't question it and just went along with it, each time he went up against Kuina though he still found himself flat on the floor while she was deemed the winner. Though this frustrated him, it seemed to also motivate him to keep practicing with more and more wooden swords before he could handle up to three wooden swords.

Skylar would lightly tease him about his temper but she couldn't help but be amazed by her friend's ability to handle three wooden swords. Her amazement also seemed to boost Zoro's confidence. Both him and Skylar seemed to grow close to one another that the girl would come to the dojo just to cheer him on every time it was his turn to fight. Though there would be moments the young eleven-year-old would get confused by the young girl's behavior. Like how she would get easily flustered when he poked fun of her but be calm when anyone else did it.

Or how she would sometimes get upset and ignore him whenever he would talk about Kuina, even if the words he spoke weren't always nice about the older girl, they still seemed to frustrate the brunette. "Can't we talk about something other than Kuina?" "Why do you talk about her so much, do you like her?" "Yeah, she's a cool person, but you don't need to talk about her every time we hang out." Were always the things she would say whenever Kuina was mentioned.

He didn't know why, but he remembered hearing her older brother once say something about her being jealous one of the times Zoro had spent time in the small abandon house the brunette and her brothers seemed to live in. The house was in shambles and they always seemed to barely have anything with them, but they never would run out of food it seems as there would always be enough for them. Zoro had learned not to ask questions as all he would receive was silent responses and changed subjects from the Strife children. But, despite his confusion and sometimes worry for the eight-year-old, life seemed to have been going great until that day. No one expected the incident that happened that day, the day Kuina passed away.

Zoro and Skylar had received the news during one of Zoro's training sessions. He had been extremely happy that day before the news arrived, the only thing Skylar knew was that him and Kuina had made some sort of promise the night before. Neither of the two had expected the news and out of the two Zoro was the most devastated. For a while he seemed to have shut down and fell into a sort of depression that worried the brunette to no end. She became patient with him, staying by his side even when he didn't want her there.

She'd comfort him whenever he was upset and try to distract him with small talk and for the longest time she felt like it was almost all in vain. It wasn't until a year had passed by that the green haired male started to turn back to normal. A fire seeming to light up in his eyes as he became determine to become strong and become the world's greatest swordsman to fulfill both his and Kunia's promise. Though he found himself thankful for the brunette sticking by his side instead of just leaving the minute he almost completely cut her off from his life. Skylar could never fully tell him just how much it hurt her for her crush to cut her off like that instead she always reassured him it didn't bother her that much anytime he tried to apologize.

Two more years passed by as the two seemingly grew closer to one another to the point that Zoro started to develop feelings for the brunette as well. Each passing day because awkward for the eleven-year-old and fourteen-year-old as they both tried not to embarrass one another in front of each other. But, that didn't stop them from giving each other random gifts, and by gifts they gave each other items they found or made. Zoro ended up giving the brunette a bracelet made from flowers that didn't last long as the flowers had ended up withering and dying after a few days. Skylar on the other hand gave Zoro a necklace that was just a piece of yarn with shells on it.

That seemed to be the only gift that survived as other presents seemed to get lost, run away (if it was a small animal that was caught and given to the other person), or just didn't last long. But, their fun moments together soon came to an end when Skylar had come crying to Zoro that her and her brothers had to leave. She didn't give detail as to why and he didn't push her to tell him. He was upset as he tightly held the younger female, not wanting to let her go as he held back his tears. "Zoro, I have to leave. You don't want Cloud coming over here and prying you off, do you?" Skylar asked, sniffing as she patted his back.

In response, she received a mumbled that was just barely audible. "What was that?" she asked.

"I said you better promise you won't forget about me" Zoro said, tightening his grip on her. "I want to make sure that you'll recognize me when we meet again, especially when I become the world's greatest swordsman" he said, pulling back and puffing out his chest to give himself a tough appearance. Skylar laughed as she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into his chest.

"You know I'll never forget you, but what about you? Huh? You promise that you'll never forget me" she said looking up at him with her wide eyes. This earned her a scoff as Zoro ruffled her hair and mumbled a small 'yeah, I promise'. "Good, well I better get going. I'll see you sometime down the road I…I…I'll miss you" she said, seeming to stumble over her words as she blushed before standing up on her tippy toes and planted a small kiss on his cheek. Turning around and rushing off while waving bye. Zoro rested a hand on his cheek, his face stained red as he gave a small goodbye.

"Another promise, tell her how I feel next time I see her" he mumbled to himself as he watched her disappear out of view.

-End of Flashback-

"That's all I can remember, now all I need to determine is if he remembers me or not but, I also want to keep up this charade of being a man" I said, pulling on the chest binder while Dr. Anderson was washing off his rag, humming.

"That was quite the story, but, is there any reason you wish to keep up the charade?" he asked.

"Life as a male seems easier, I want to cherish it a bit longer. Although I don't think my male appearance looks much different from my female appearance and he knows my name so it shouldn't be that hard to realize it's me" I reasoned.

"I don't know" Sora said. "I don't take Zoro as the kind of guy to stop and connect pieces and Skylar is a common male name just as it's a common female name" he said, as I nodded my head.

"True" I shrugged my shoulders as I tugged on the shirt. "All set, come on So-So, let's head back to the restaurant" I said, standing and motioning for my older twin to follow. He nodded his head as he handed me my swords so I could attach them back to my side.

"Bye, Dr. Anderson" we both called out as we waved bye.

"Bye, make sure to take it easy" Dr. Anderson called back before the door finally shut and we started to make our way back to the restaurant. The sun was starting to set as people seemed to start to retreat into their homes and by the time Sora and I reached the restaurant the only people left inside were the group of pirates and Cloud. The blond looked irritated as he glared at the pile of dishes that were stacking up next to the straw hat wearing man. Whose stomach looks like it had expanded to the size of a balloon.

"We're back" Sora said, walking over to the table he had been sitting at earlier in the day. His papers stacked up neatly along with his crayons put back in their box.

"Good, I won't be alone in cleaning up this mess" Cloud muttered underneath his breath as he sighed in relief.

"Oh, you're back" I had to stop and look at the person that spoke, didn't know noses could grow that long. I'll will be disappointed if this man's name is not Pinocchio.

"Yeah" I said, nodding my head as I grabbed one of the chairs at the other table and turned it around so I face the group while sitting down.

"Uh, are you alright?" the orange haired woman nervously asked, as I leaned back in my seat.

"Well yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I questioned, snickering at the sweat drop that appeared on her head before she shook her head and furrowed her brows.

"You're not upset that you lost?" she questioned as I shook my head.

"No, why would I do something as childish as that? I lost, big deal, the best I can do is learn from my mistake" I said, shrugging my shoulders.

"Mistake?"

"You were distracted I noticed at that last minute, let your guard down. I say you better learn quickly not to do that, letting your guard down is the quickest way to get yourself killed" Zoro said from his seat, leaning back in his chair as he downed his drink. I only nodded my head.

"So, may I get the name of the champions that get the luxury of staying here free of charge?" I asked, leaning forward.

"Oh, I guess so. The name's Nami, over there is Zoro, then there's Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp" Nami said as she pointed to each male and stated their name.

"Those are some unique names you all got there" I stated, raising an eyebrow. "Name's Skylar, which you should know by now and those two over there are my brothers, Cloud and Sora" I said jabbing a thumb in the direction of the two. Cloud grunted in response as he gathered up the dirty dishes and Sora waved before doing the same as the blond. "So, what are you all doing out here? It's certainly not for sightseeing I hope."

"We're off to the Grand Line" Luffy said through a mouthful of meat, small chunks of it flying out his mouth and onto the table.

"Ah, going after that legendary treasure all you pirates' seem to like to talk about. What was it called again?" I questioned as I snapped my fingers in thought, trying to think of the name.

"The One Piece" Nami answered as I nodded my head,

"That's it, that must be nice, to go on an adventure. Being out there in the open sea and feeling free from society's deathly grip" I said, smiling as that little statement seemed to catch all their attention.

"You seem to like the idea of being out at sea" Sanji commented.

"Yeah" I said, tilting my head upwards and giving a small smile. "My brothers and I had to move around a lot, it wasn't really easy and we learned just how deadly the sea could be. But it was still beautiful even in those moments, there was a sort of thrill being out in the sea. Much different than this dreadful boring feeling that seems to come with being on land" I explained. "There's only so much beauty you can see on land before you grow tired of it and long for change."

"Skylar, come back here and help with the dishes!" I heard Cloud's muffled voice call from the back room.

"That's my cue to go, how long will you all be in the village?" I asked.

"For about a week, we're just here to restock and rest up" Nami explained as I nodded my head.

"Gotcha, well hopefully I'll get to spend some more time with you people. Your colorful appearance is much better than the people of this island" I said, waving at them before disappearing into the back room.

-Time Skip-

"What?" I asked, blinking my eyes in confusion as I stared at the raven-haired man in front of me.

"I said will you join my crew?" Luffy asked, smiling widely as he looked at me.

"Luffy, you can't just ask 'him' that!" Usopp snapped. Indeed, a week had seemed to pass by quickly and though I hate to admit after spending time with the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates I found that I adored the older male. He was like a little brother to me even though he was a year older than me.

"Why? You barely know me and spending time with me for a week doesn't seem like enough time to make such a big decision" I said, blinking my eyes as I stared at him. "You seem like the type of guy that wouldn't let just anyone join his crew, so why are you asking me?" I asked.

"Do I need a reason?" he asked, laughing.

"Yes, you do" the other Straw Hats and I said.

"Really?" Luffy questioned before rubbing his chin as he hummed in thought before he snapped his fingers. "Because of your eyes" he said.

"Excuse me?"

"Your eyes, they have this look to them when you start taking about adventure and being out at sea. Like a certain fire, it feels like you're bored with your life here and even though I don't know why that would be I just know you need to get out. What better way than to join my crew, you seem like a swell 'guy' and I'd be happy to have you on my crew" he explained.

"That sounded strangely reasonable and intelligent" Nami said.

"Are we sure that's our idiot captain?" Sanji questioned.

"I don't know, what if you regret having me a part of your crew later?" I asked.

"I won't" Luffy said, a serious look on his face.

"You sure about that?" I asked, receiving a firm nod from him.

"I think it's a great idea" Sora suddenly piped up as he was passing by. He sat down the plates of food he was carrying in front of the one empty chair at the table. "Here's your order, Luffy" he said. Luffy smiled and quickly raced back to his seat and sat down so he could start digging in. "But as I was saying, I think that's a great idea. Skylar, you really don't have much going on here and its obvious you've been growing bored more and more every day, why not spice things up in your life?" he questioned.

"Normally I wouldn't encourage behavior like this since you're my little sibling, but I have to agree with Sora" Cloud said from where he was sweeping the floor. "You're old enough to make these decisions by yourself and you have expressed many of times how much you want to go out and see what the world has to offer" he said.

"I've never said that before except in my…" I trailed off before my face heated up as a smirk appeared on Cloud's face. "You read my journal, you fuckface!" I snapped, embarrassed.

"Don't be surprise, I'm your big brother. You're not allowed to have privacy when I'm around" Cloud said, smiling as he went back to sweeping. Grumbling I turned my attention back towards Luffy.

"I'll ask one more time, do you really want me to join?" I asked.

"Yeah" he said, speaking through a mouthful.

"And you feel like you won't regret it?"

"That's right."

"Part of me feels like there's more to this than you're letting on, but if you're sure you want me to join and it's pretty obvious these two want me to go I guess I have no choice" I said, shrugging my shoulders while smiling. "Sure."

"Really? Been awhile since I've seen someone agree that easily" Nami said, causing me to raise an eyebrow.

"In that case I know I made the right choice, people who are persistent can sometimes be such a nuisance when they keep nagging you. I should know I'm the twin to one" I said, motioning to Sora who smiled widely and laughed. "When do you all plan on setting sail?" I questioned.

"Mid-afternoon" Nami said as she looked towards the clock that hung up over the door that lead to the kitchen. "Gives you about two hours to gather up your things" she said, as I nodded my head.

"Might as well go get started then" I said, removing my apron and draping it over one of the chairs. "Come on Sora, I'm going to need some help but I also have a few things I want to talk to you about" I said, he nodded his head and removed his apron doing the same thing I did and draped it over a chair.

"What? Leaving me here alone once again" Cloud said, an irritation mark appearing on his forehead.

"Of course, it's only fair seeing how you went through my journal" I said, giving a cheeky smile as I passed by the blond with Sora before exiting the restaurant.
