Chapter 2: Back To School
On the day of his depart, Riven was more than happy to put his home behind him for a whole another year, as he didn't plan on coming home for Christmas or any other breaks. He knew, in his heart that his father and him would never be as close as they once had been. He supposed some of that came from the fact that he'd withdrawn himself from his father at an early age and never fully let his father in again. His father had once told him that he'd left Riven alone on holidays and birthdays to be able to work instead, and he wagered that that was a possible reason why he didn't let his dad come close again, despise his repeating attempts. Once on the hover bus that was going to take him back to Magix, he felt immediately more relaxed, and the familiarity of being on the way home settled inside of him. He picked out his phone and texted his friends quickly that he was on his way, briefly considering if he should text Musa as well, but dismissed it after a while.
He didn't know when she'd be back to Alfea, and if she answered, he wouldn't know what to tell her. It always worked that way with Musa, one of them would greet the other, she would say something, and his brain went down the drain. Sometimes, he'd managed some decent responses, by concentrating hard on the subject, but it often left the conversation stocky and sluggish. He was utterly amazed that she even talked to him still, that in her eyes he could only see interest and encouragement. He always took some time to get a talk to go fluidly with people he didn't trust, felt comfortable around or new people. It had taken him months to warm up to his team mates even, especially to Sky, since he just couldn't stand snobbish and stuck up people. But Sky and Brandon had proved him wrong, and he now considered the prince a trusted friend. Aisha and Flora was two girls he actually felt slightly comfortable around, Flora because she was genuinely sweet and let people take their time in their own pace, and Layla because she was alike him, she wasn't utterly comfortable with lots of talk but preferred getting to the point quickly, and they had sort of an understanding which allowed one of them to understand the other even without full sentences.
Musa was different to the two in that sense that she knew where she stood and what she was capable of, which meant that she was firm in her beliefs and spoke her mind freely. She also always had a way with words, being a singer and all. Her smart mouth almost always got her in trouble as she was quick to jump to others defences. Musa was also an incredible warm person and probably the most open minded and understanding person either Aisha or Riven had ever met. She was the first girl to take contact with the princess of Andros and learn about who she was, while offering her unrelenting friendship if she wanted it. They shared they joy of music and dance together, and had quickly become the bests of best friends, in that that they completed each other; Musa created the music Aisha needed to dance to, and Aisha inspired her in her music composing. She got along with every body, and made a conscious effort with even him, something the other girls apart from Aisha thought almost as a waste of time. One major reason for Musa being this way, he thought was explained through her love for music. There was so many different tones, instruments, styles and sounds out there, and they all created a beautiful harmony together, despite their differences. It was a gift, he considered, to be able to adapt that philosophy into human life. Still, she was far from naïve and stupid, he'd seen her in action too many times not to have noticed that she was a quick thinker, a good strategy user and often used her surroundings to her advantage.
As the bus arrived in Magix, he grabbed his bags and made his way through the bursting city. He took his time walking to Red Fountain, something he rarely did, enjoying the late summer heat. At home, it barely had been any sun, but here the sun still shone heavily, the air was warm and pleasant and Riven found himself longing for the beach.
Suddenly, he spotted a semi- large cluster of people surrounding a stone paved part of the park just outside of Magix city. Loud music filled the air. Curious he walked over, squeezing through or pushing his way forward until he could see what was going on. Once he'd pushed his way through, he saw what had captured the crowds' eyes. In a clear spot in the middle were Aisha and Musa, dancing enchantingly to an upbeat song Riven had never heard of, every move they made was exact and in sync, swaying their bodies in a seductive matter without being slutty. The two girls seemed to be moving as one, without any clear coordination or choreography but as if they could read each others minds. Riven's eyes were trailed especially on Musa.
Was it just the time lap or had she gotten more beautiful during the summer? Her hair was longer, probably spelled, and reached to about her ribs in its pigtailed form. Her eyes were sparkling, a broad smile on her lips, body moving as it had a desire on its own. He swore he'd never seen her look so happy. As the song pulled to its end, the crowd around him erupted in cheers and cat calls which he found himself joining full heartedly, as the girls bowed to their audience while smiling broadly in achievement. Mere moments afterwards, the crowd began to shatter, Musa and Aisha started stretching and packing up their things, which partly consisted of Musa's big boom box. Aisha was the first to spot him as the people disappeared, and nudged her friend discretely while waving cheerfully at him. Musa's head popped up from where she'd been mixing with the music player. Once she saw him, a broad, warm smile came upon her face and she raced toward him. Riven felt his heart speed up at the sight of her, her lips looking soft and warm, her hair moving in rhythm with her movements, the red sports top that hugged her upper body just right and the short, ripped off and well worn, jeans shorts which displayed a quite large amount of creamy white thigh for him. Soon she was right in front of him, beaming up in a way that made her breath catch in his throat. Musa flung her arms around him and gave him a short, tight squeeze. Letting go and stepping back, she let her eyes roam him herself. Was it just her, or had he gotten hotter? Dressed in a short sleeved, green shirt with a few buttons undone and a pair of tight jeans, he looked gorgeous. Not to mention his fierce purple eyes that displayed so many emotions sometimes, and at others were as cold as ice to look into.
"So, how was your summer, Riven?" she asked when she thought it was starting to go to much time.
"It was alright, didn't do much 'cept be with my dad or some friends. We really didn't have that much nice weather, here in Magix I've actually had the best weather in the whole summer, so I'm planning on putting this last week of freedom to good use. How about you, I read your email, but it'd be nice to get more info." Musa was about to answer, when her phone went off. Flipping it open, she read what Riven suspected was a text, before turning to Aisha and Riven again. Smiling apologetic in Riven's direction, she addressed her girlfriend.
"Bloom and the others want to meet us at Magix café and then go shopping, just us girls" Aisha sighed heavily but complied in the end, Musa tailing behind her. She turned around and smiled one last time before both of the girls disappeared in the crowd of pedestrians in Magix. Riven smiled and waved in return and decided to head on his way, seeing as it was early afternoon already, and he still had to meet his new room Riven arrived at Red Fountain he realized how much he'd missed this place over the summer, the floating building gave out a sense of calm and tranquillity that he'd never felt before in his life. When he'd first gotten here he had been afraid that he was going to be made fun of, since he wasn't royal or from a wealthy family, and had always been on the defensive around his new team mates, eager to show that he did belong among them. Over the years this had slowly been moulded away by his friends and though he was far from the most open or talkative guy, he was considerably less closed off around his friends. He suspected that most of his guy friends were already there, since it had become a tradition to spend at least a few days together as a gang before school started again. The girls were obviously all here. Dragging his bags after him, he let the beaming system recognize him and beam him and his charges up. After checking in with Saladin and getting his schedule and room key (you were obligated to return the key to the headmaster if you left for home during the holidays and checked it out again once you returned), he trudged down the corridor to his, now shared, room.
