Hey guys! Thanks for all the reviews, faves, and follows! I'm glad you guys like it! Here's the next chapter, R&R!
Chapter 2
Max
Batting had to be my favorite part of baseball, mostly because I've always had natural talent and I loved rubbing it into my male teammate's faces that my batting average was better than theirs. But I digress.
The coaches have us batting according to our position, starting with first, winding around to third and back to left then across to right. Right now the attractive first baseman was batting, and unfortunately he's pretty good. So far he's hit two home runs, and the rest of them have gotten into the outfield. I even think that the coach that talked to me has a man crush on him, 'cause he kept complimenting him. It was kinda funny/disgusting, but at least I know right off the bat who his favorite player is.
"Keep up the good work Fang! Another hit like that, and you'll be team captain again!" The coach I now refer to as Baldy (for some reason I still don't know his real name) kept going on and on as the first baseman, who I know now as Fang swung at the ball. He was on his last ball and I couldn't be happier. I just hope Baldy doesn't do that to the other guys on the team, it's really annoying.
"Iggy, get into the dugout, double time you turtle!" Baldy yelled and the coach that was pitching to rolled his eyes. I laughed a little as Iggy scoffed and ran into the dugout, his long strides getting him there quickly.
"Good job Fang, now get back to first!" Baldy ordered and the sub that was in for Fang went over and took Iggy's position at second.
"Yeah good job, Fangy!" Iggy squawked in a high pitched, feminine voice.
"What?" Fang responded as he shook his head and rolled his eyes at Iggy.
"We all know Coach has a man crush on you, its okay." Iggy yelled from the dugout as the whole team erupted in laughter, some of the assistant coaches even cracked a smile. Fang just stood there like a statue with a small smile on his lips. Wow, first smile of the night folks.
"Iggy Jones, you know I don't play favorites!" Baldy yelled as Iggy came out of the dug out with his pink helmet, black batting gloves, and his black and neon yellow Easton Reflex bat. He had pretty good taste, well except for the pink helmet...that was kinda weird.
"Jones, how many times have I told you to get a new helmet?!" Baldy yelled. Iggy just laughed and got into his batting stance. I didn't pay much attention after he hit his pop-up; I saw enough to know that he was ok and would often slap bunt which was rather unusual for a baseball player. He was a really faster runner though, so I figured he was probably lead-off.
"Martinez, move it!" Baldy yelled at me when he was on his last ball. I jogged in and carefully placed my glove into my bag. I rummaged around in my bag and eventually grabbed my red and black helmet, my red batting gloves and my Louisville Slugger Exogrid. I put my stuff on quick and ran out to the batter's box.
"Okay if you want to back out now before you embarrass yourself you can sweetheart, no one will blame you." Baldy said from beside me. I just rolled my eyes and got into my stance.
The first pitch was a little outside so I didn't swing.
"Having second thoughts?" Baldy questioned as the team erupted in laughter. I just rolled my shoulders and stepped back in the box. The pitch was good and I hit it, the ball flew into the outfield and over the fence. I stood back with a grin on my face, raising my eyebrows in challenge.
"Well," Baldy spoke, apparently not knowing what to say.
"I'm good, I know. I wear a medium jersey, just so you know." I answered, smirking over at him. Everybody was speechless, staring at me with wide eyes, so I just rolled my eyes and got back into the batter's box. By the time I was done I had five homers, and only one of my hits had even been in the infield. But that was only because Fang could apparently jump insanely high and was able to catch the ball as it passed over his head. Yeah, I really didn't know whether to be upset or impressed.
"Okay guys, practice is over!" Baldy yelled an hour later as thunder rumbled in and lightening flashed across the sky. The wind had picked up awhile ago, and the sky's looked ominous ever since I finished batting so we all figured practice would end a bit early. The guys smiled and went to the dugout to get their things. I started to follow them, but was pulled aside by Baldy.
"As much as it pains me to say this, you've made the team." He grumbled and I smirked recognizing how hard that must've been for him.
"Awe that's so sweet of you Baldy, remember, medium shirt size." I answered, smiling as I patted him on the shoulder.
"Baldy?" His eyebrows raised at me as his eyes widened.
"Eh, don't take it personally; I just don't know your real name." I replied shrugging as I took a swig of water and packed up my things. The few guys still remaining in the dugout chuckled before walking out when Baldy glared at them.
"My name is-" he started saying before I cut him off.
"I don't really want to know." I responded shrugging my shoulders.
"Okay so, see you tomorrow." I said as I hoisted my bag onto my shoulder, and ran through the rain to my car. I threw my bag into the back seat, then pulled out of the parking lot and headed back to the house.
It's kinda short sorry! Onto the next chapter! It's longer ;0)
