A/N: First of all… I'm deeply sorry for the lack of updates. *shame on me* I know some of you expected it for months; I finally managed to write a sequel (even if I'm not really satisfied with what I wrote.) I hope I'd be forgiven. *puppy eyes*
And a big thank you to KSPretenderFan for correcting my writing. (All remaining mistakes are my own).
The next morning.
The sun had just risen as Zoe came back from her morning jog. It could be raining, hot, snowing, Zoe never missed her run. And even less when she was playing the prefect couple with John. She was gone before he woke up, enjoying this moment of tranquility to put her ideas in place. The tension was well obvious and no one could deny it. She didn't know how it would end but for now the most important thing was to focus on their mission.
She went into the house breathless, pulled her shoes off at the foot of the stairs and climbed, still listening to her music. Once she reached the first floor, she turned off her iPod and pulled her headphones off while she was walking to the bathroom. She barely had the time to put her hand on the handle that the door opened suddenly. She jumped in surprise and didn't expect to see a half-naked John in towel in front of her, still wet from his recent shower. She didn't move, her mouth slightly opened and her eyes wandering on his bare torso.
"Zoe." He greeted her. Focus, Zoe, focus.
".. John!" She faked a natural smile. He said nothing else but walked to the bedroom, proudly smiling at the effect had on her. John 1 - Zoe 0. She didn't wait any longer and entered the bathroom, immediately closing the door behind her. She needed a cold shower, right now.
20 minutes later.
He was waiting for her in the kitchen, checking the neighbors' camera on the laptop. Zoe made her way to the room a few minutes later.
"So, what's up?" She asked to John.
"Nothing interesting, they hadn't moved from the house since yesterday night, Ian's in the office and Katie's in the kitchen with the girl." He explained.
"Anything new about the mysterious delivery?"
"Finch checked his mails and found he has a big meeting today at 2 o'clock, but it has nothing to do with his job. It's in an abandoned warehouse."
"What about his wife? I don't think she knows anything."
"Maybe, but we can't be so sure. I need you to search his office and their bedroom while I'd be tracking Ian."
"And how am I supposed to do it while Katie is in the house?!" She asked skeptically.
"I'm sure you'll find a way." He smiled at her.
In the afternoon.
She couldn't believe she was doing it again. Playing the perfect little housewife who wants to make friends and talk about husbands, cleaning, kids, etc. That was surely not her thing but work was work, she thought before pressing the doorbell. She waited a few minutes and then she put her mask on.
"Zoe!" Katie greeted her with a big smile. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Well, John just left for an emergency at work and I felt alone in this big house so.." She tried to seem as sincere as possible.
"Oh, come in then! We'll talk over a coffee." She still smiled and let her enter.
For at least 20 minutes, they talked about everything and nothing while Zoe was wondering how she would manage to accomplish her "mission". She wasn't really interested in what Katie was talking about but she tried her best not to show it and still listening. Then it hit her.
"Excuse-me, where is the bathroom? I'd like to refresh myself, it's quite hot here." She slightly smiled.
"Sure! It's upstairs to the right." Katie explained as she took the cups of coffee to the kitchen.
Zoe went upstairs, there were four doors: the bathroom to the right, Ally's room with her name on the door and the two others. She checked behind her, making sure Katie wasn't watching her before entering the first room to the left. It was the bedroom; she was feeling a bit guilty for invading people's privacy but entered anyway. She first made her way quickly towards the nightstand, opened it and searched for some clues then did the same with the other. Nothing. She then opened the chest of drawers, searching meticulously not to move any things. As she suspected, she found nothing suspicious in the room. Not wanting to hang around any longer to avoid arousing suspicion, she rushed to the office. Everything seemed perfectly in place, it was even too tidy. She sat on the office chair, opened the drawers one by one, the last was locked. She took a paperclip that lay on the desk and did what John had taught her. In a second, she unlocked the drawers and found a phone and three passports in different names; she took her phone and took a photo of each ID, checking at the same time that Katie wasn't there.
"Is everything alright upstairs?" Katie shouted from the ground-floor.
She quickly closed the drawer, put everything in its place and left the office immediately. She rushed to join Katie, appearing as natural as possible.
The abandoned warehouse, at the same time.
John was watching Ian from afar for ten minutes now, he was waiting outside the car, leaning against the door and seemed nervous. A few minutes later, another car arrived from the back and Ian straightened. It was a big black sedan, tinted windows; a burly man in a suit came out of the car and opened the back door while Ian entered. Immediately, John put his headphone and listened to the conversation.
"You know I can't!" Ian said.
"I don't care! You owe me big after what I did for you." The man said loudly.
"And I thank you, again. I just can't, not now."
"If I don't get what I want, you know I can be very persuasive."
Then there was a little silence between them.
"I saw you have a beautiful family, Ian." The man said and John could guess his smile in his voice.
"I swear if you touch to my…" Ian started to shout but then the man interrupted him. "Get out. I give you two days. Then it would be too late." He said strictly. The burly man re-opened the door and Ian got out of the car. He stayed there for 10 minutes after the car left; he was walking in circle, his hands on his face.
That evening.
John and Zoe were both sitting on the couch in the living room, a glass of wine in her hand and a beer in his. They were chatting about the day.
"Did you find something in his office?" John asked. She leaned over to pick up her phone on the coffee table and handed it to him. "It was in a locked drawer." She explained.
"I'll send them to Carter and ask her to check the ID." He did what he said and handed her phone back. "What about you?" She asked grabbing it.
"Whatever it is, Ian put himself in big trouble. He owes something to someone very important and dangerous. He threatened his family. I don't know yet what it is but I'll find out soon."
Then a calming silence filled the room. That was how they worked; they didn't need words to understand each other. Their eyes crossed and a sparkle appeared.
"I thought maybe.. We could play a game." Zoe smirked at him, brushing with the tips of her fingers his forearm resting on the back of the sofa.
"Poker, again?!" He asked smiling, raising his eyebrows.
"Well, are you afraid that I might win all the hands?!" She teased him. He narrowed his eyes, smirking while she took a sip of her wine.
