Previously...
Natsu turned the notebook right-side up and read the title on the plain brown soft-covered book. He couldn't believe what his eyes were seeing... In big bold letter it read, 'The Last Dragon by Lucy Dragneel'. He dropped the book and without warning found himself flying into a tree and everything went dark for the second time that day...
...Lucy was back and his world was about to change!
Chapter 2
Lucy's POV...
It had been such a long time since I had the chance to spend anytime with Happy and I'd just realized how much I missed the little fur-ball. Only a few short hours ago, we sneaked back into town to gather some supplies for the journey ahead and to get some food for dinner as Natsu had dragged me here before we had a chance to eat.
While we were playing in the water, I thought I could hear Natsu belching and a smile crossed my face. It might have appeared that I was mad at him earlier but to be honest I was very happy that he'd returned to find me. After a year of not hearing anything from him, I found my mind constantly thinking about him and the only thing that kept me from loosing it all-together was my work as a reporter. I lucked into that job about two months ago after Jason asked me to do some modelling. I didn't mind the modelling too much, but after a few weeks it got old and I begged him for a position as a reporter... Besides it gave me access to their files and it helped me track down where everyone was staying... Among other things!
Before I return to Crocus, I did go out and travel for six months training with my spirits as I moved from town to town. It's paid off as I've gotten a lot stronger during than before, but it all came to an end after I visited my old home in Magnolia Town. As I was searching through some dusty old documents left to me by my Father, I came across an old Journal that Mom wrote in before I was born. It was nice to read her thoughts as she wrote of her feelings and joy of having a child because it gave me a way to reconnect with her after such a long time... But that was the end of my happy thoughts as I soon discovered that Jude Heartfilia was not my real Father, unfortunately there was no mention of who my real Father was. So that was another reason for my returning to Crocus, to search for information on my real Father.
But last month I had a small break-through when I was searching through some old Weekly Sorcerer magazines from the past and I found an old article about my Mother before she met my Jude, my so-called Father. It was an interview with a young Celestial Mage who claimed to have rescued a wounded Dragon. It never went into any detail about the Dragon or it's location but she did say he was a Fire Dragon. This was the Weekly Sorcerer and facts were not the main focus of their stories.
In another article I found something that I had never paid much attention to before... Even with three First Generation Dragon Slayers in our guild, I never put two and two together, until now! Apparently their Dragons all disappeared the same day that my Mom left me, which I thought was peculiar... A coincidence perhaps, but I'll find out someday what it all means. 'For now I better go check on Natsu!' I thought as I dried off and quickly dressed.
As Happy and I entered the clearing where our camp was, I noticed the spit over the fire was wiped clean. I smiled to myself as I was content that Happy and I had already eaten before we went for a swim... But then I saw it! It took a few moments to recognize what Natsu was holding, nope scratch that, dropping in the fire. It was my new manuscript. 'Damn it!' I thought as I rushed over and 'Lucy Kicked' him into a tree. I reached into the fire and pulled out the manuscript and quickly put out the flames that were threatening to destroy my precious work.
"No real damage done!... Thank Mavis!" I said as I examined the document for damage. "NATSU! You idiot! You almos..." I was interrupted by an annoyed Dragon Slayer as he slowly got to his feet.
"What the hell Luce!" He said as he rubbed the back of his head.
"What do you mean, "What the hell Luce!", your the one who nearly destroyed three months of hard work!... Idiot!" Lucy shook her head as she took a deep breath and slowly released it as she tried to calm her nerves.
I smiled as I examined every inch of my book and let out a sigh of relief as I noticed only a few singed edges. I pulled my book into my chest and yelled. "Safe!" As I pumped a fist into the air.
"Lushee! You're still weird!" Happy laughed as he flew over and landed on Natsu's shoulder.
"No I'm not you damned cat!"
"Are too!"
"Am not!" I growled as Natsu walked over and grabbed my right hand and pulled it towards his face. He moved it from side to side and twisted back and forth as he examined every inch of it. When he was done he cocked his head to the side and looked at me strange.
"Luce! Why isn't your hand burned?" He asked as I pulled my hand back and looked at it.
"Hmmm! Don't know! Maybe it never got burned!" I shrugged it off as Natsu being overprotective as usual.
"But Luce!"
"No buts Natsu!" I exclaimed as I realized the real issue here. "Natsu why were you looking at this!" I smacked him in the head with my book out of frustration. "That's personal!"
"Ouch!" Natsu grinned as he playfully rubbed his head. "I was searching through you're files to see who was closest to us so we'd know where to go tomorrow!"
"... And what did you find!?" I said as I sat down by the fire. Happy flew into my arms and buried his head in my chest while I watched a nervous Natsu inch closer and closer to me. When he felt safe, he took a seat beside me. On the outside I was growling, but on the inside I was smiling... Content that he was here!
"Ah!... Yea that!... Well, seems Wendy is the closest. So we should go there first!" He nervously smiled.
"Sounds good!... We should get some sleep then!" I said as we unrolled our sleeping bags and laid them side-by-side and got comfortable for the night.
"Luce!?"
"Hmmm!" I mumbled.
"Luce!... Why does your story say written by Lucy Dragneel and not Lucy Heartfilia?" Natsu shyly asked as he turned on his side to face me, propped himself up on an elbow and waited for a response.
I sighed as I thought about how I should respond. It wasn't any big deal as all writers use pen-names, but the hard part was explaining why I used his last name. To be perfectly honest I don't know why I used it... Perhaps it's more than just a name I used, maybe it was wishful thinking... 'Mrs Lucy Dragneel, it has a nice ring to it,' I thought as I felt my cheeks grow hot with embarrassment. The hotter they became the more I tried to hide my embarrassment, until my cheeks were fully hidden beneath my sleeping bag.
"Natsu!... I-It's just a pen-name! N-Now go to s-sleep!" I quietly said as I turned on my side and buried my now red face in my pillow.
"Okay Lucy! Sleep good!" Natsu said as I heard him move around, getting into a comfortable position.
"Goodnight Natsu!" I said as I slowly started to drift off to sleep. "I'm glad you're back!"
"Me too Luce!... I missed this!"
Next update should be later tonight or early tomorrow.
See you then!
