Sheik and Dark:
Early afternoon wind blew through the shadows hair as the pair made their way across Hyrule field. They would have warped… but 'they' were doing work in Kakiriko, and they (the shadows) couldn't risk someone feeling the magic from warping.
Dark rested his head in the crook between Sheik's neck and shoulder, gently biting her to get her attention. He heard her sigh of impatience, and grinned knowing that she wasn't ignoring him. "What Dee?" she asked, her tone was tired and annoyed' though she still used her childhood nickname for him.
"Why couldn't I have stayed hmm?~" he asked, more like purred as he nuzzled into her neck. He was well aware that he had nearly mastered the art of manipulation, seduction and other forms of getting what he wanted… but it was hard to get Sheik to fall for his ploys. "I was quite enjoying playing with him, and I hardly get to leave your house." He whined, sounding more like a child than the young adult male he was.
"Dee, you were supposed to have died in the water temple. I saved you because you're my best friend. Nobody is supposed to know you're alive, if they do than they'll try and kill you… send you away like they tried to send our 'master'." Sheik answered quietly; knowing very well her friend already knew everything she had just said. "I'm sorry to trap you within my dwelling during the day, but it is for your own safety Dark. And now that Link knows you're alive… he'll most likely tell Zelda… this is bad."
"But why? Why is bad? I can easily outrun and outfight her guards. I can morph into shadows at will… I am finally free, but yet I have no freedom." He sighed, slackening his grip around sheik's waist.
"… How bout we stop by the ranch? Give you a chance to explore the land that you've been kept from for so long?" Sheik's tone was kind, she truly only cared for his well being.
Dark's dull crimson eyes lit up to a brilliant scarlet. "Really? N'aw thank you Sheik!" he leaned forwards to gently place a kiss on her cheek.
Sheik sighed, but he could tell there was a smile hidden beneath her cowl. "Must you be so affectionate?" she asked, a slightly mocking tone to her voice.
"Only to the cute ones~" he answered, seriousness lined every word.
Sheik laughed and nuzzled her head against Dark's. "I'd like to think I'm more than 'cute'." She said sternly, a playful growl tinted her words.
Dark chuckled and leaned against Sheik, savoring the feel of the wind blowing through his hair. "So… are we there yet?"
A short time later, they were slipping off the horse and slinking into the shadows along Lon Lon ranch. Dark hadn't been there since he was a child; since he was still a part of Link. When Link had pulled out the Master sword… he had been split in half so that only his 'pure and righteous' self could wield the blade of Evils bane. His other side, was torn from him and formed 'Dark Link'. They couldn't even give him a proper name… he was merely the unwanted emotions of the Hero… at least Sheik cared for him. She was the same as him, the unwanted emotions to Princess Zelda; at least she had her freedom and a life. He was merely a shadow with no purpose.
Dark glanced around as they made their way through the stables and onto the room of the building; giving them a pretty good view of the entire ranch. Dark let out a sigh and miserably pulled his knees closer to his chest; soon he would be back in Kakiriko, hiding from the world again. It was really quite amazing how Sheik had managed to keep him hidden. It pissed him off actually; he was secretly hoping he would be discovered one day and would get the chance to run free once more.
"Dee… I know you hate being caged, and I know it slowly kills you every day you have to spend inside… I'm sorry, but until I can figure out where you can go, with me is the safest place." Sheik spoke softly, her voice was honestly sorrowful over his predicament. He knew that she only kept him by her side to watch over him, to keep him safe… her heart was in the right place, but it got annoying at times.
"… Wanna know how you can make it up to me?" he asked, a devious plan forming in his mind as he edged a little closer to her.
Sheik took a step back, knowing that the gleam in Dee's eyes and not liking it. "How…" she asked, preparing to spring at a moment's notice.
"Oh… nothing much." Dark turned from her for a moment, before he swiftly turned around and pounced at Sheik. Her eyes widened in surprise but she swiftly moved away from him. He managed to grab her ankle and using his strength over her pulled her back from her jump. Sheik landed on her back, and he wasted no time in holding her wrists above her head with one hand while resting his knee's on her legs so she couldn't kick him.
Dark grinned at her and raised a hand to tug at the top of the material covering her face; causing her eyes to go wide with fear.
"Dee, please don't." she asked, her voice held faint traces of fear in it. She had never showed anyone her face before, and wasn't planning on it anytime soon. It was Sheikah tradition… she wasn't married yet, nor in a relationship of any kind, it was wrong to show her face.
"N'aw, I'll bet you're really pretty though. Besides, you owe me for keeping me in that damned house for so long!" he purred, tugging down the material a small bit.
"Dark, please." There was definitely a pleading edge to her voice now, slight tremors shook it.
Dark stopped, she never called him Dark unless she was super pissed at him. He glanced down into her eyes, wide and pleading with him to not invade her privacy. He debated wither he should pull down her face cover or not… she would be pissed at him if he did, and was seeing her face worth it…
As he mulled over his thoughts, a tom boyish voice floated to the rooftop, ensnaring his attention.
"LIIIIIIIIIIIIINK! YOU'RE BACK!" the happy female screamed, and a muffled thud could be heard as Dark assumed she tackle hugged him.
With a grin to the trapped Sheikah, Dark melded into the shadows, the gleam in his eyes told her that he was planning on meeting up with Hyrule's hero… again.
Link:
Well, it had taken awhile, but he had finally made it to Lon Lon ranch. Epona had; of course, galloped to meet him when he played her song… but it had taken longer than usual it seemed, to get there. Finally he slid off of Epona and stroked her muzzle softly. "Thank you Epona." He muttered softly to her, she whinnied quietly and nuzzled his neck.
Link smiled and walked away from her, leaving her to run free in the grass. He turned towards the house, arching his back and cracking it pleasantly in a few places. He let out a breath of air, time to get the inevitable bone crushing hug out of the way.
He made his way to the house, only to hear the scream of happiness be voiced from the side. He cringed at the pitch, and braced himself. Sure enough, Malon ran at him and through herself at him in a glomp, her strong farmers arms wrapped around his chest and cut off his breathing.
"I miiiiiised you Link! Why have you waited so long to come back and visit?" Malon squealed, completely oblivious to Links lack of breathing.
"Mal…on… can't… breathe!" he gasped, glad when she let him go.
"Oh jeez I'm sorry!" she cried out in alarm as she took a step away from him. She brushed back her fiery red hair and beamed at him. "How have you been? Oh! I heard that you've been banned from helping cause you've been pushing yourself too hard, is that true? I'll bet it is, you always put others needs before your own. Oh, but where are my manners? You're an honored guest here, I should be inviting you in for a meal and being kind; not standing here and keeping you from our hospitality!" words going a mile a minute, Malon set off in the direction of the house once she was finished speaking.
Link let out a sigh and ran a hand through his bangs; Malon's personality matched her hair, fiery and bold. She would have gone on for another five solid minutes if she hadn't remembered he was a 'guest'… something that still irked him. When he visited places or friends, he wished to be treated as just another person, not as the Hero he was. He did not help Hyrule for the glory, he helped because it needed help, and the choice had befallen him.
He took a few steps forward, before Navi flew out from under his hat and let out a shrill ringing noise. "Link, look out!" she cried.
Link glanced to his sides, not seeing anything, when he felt something collide with his back. No, not something, someone. They tumbled forward a few feet; they hit the ground and rolled. Link caught fleeting glances of black and groaned. Damnit, him again!
He stopped rolling and opened his eyes; he was greeted by sparkling ruby eyes just beneath his own. "Had I known you missed me this much, I would have sought you out sooner. ~" the shadow purred, noticing how Link had landed sprawled over him.
Link glanced down as well, a blush spread over his face. His hands had stopped his fall; they were placed firmly on either side of Dark's shoulders. His knees were placed on either side of Dark's hips, and or course Dark just had to wrap his arm around Link's neck and pull him towards him. Link let out a yelp of surprise, and Dark chuckled "Come now I'm not that scary am i?" as he wrapped and arm around the hero's waist.
"What the hell are you doing?" Link demanded to be told, a furious blush working its way across his face as he fought to be free. Finally he managed to get out of the Shadows grasp, and sat cross legged a few feet away from him.
"N'aw, you're hurting my feelings here Link. All I want is for us to be friends, is that so bad?" dark asked, trying to make his eyes appear wide and innocent… actually succeeding quite well.
Link cast his eyes down from the Shadows, knowing full well that he could easily fall prey to the lies Dark could weave. There must have been something about the shadow beings, that made their eyes so enticing so believable… Sheikah's eyes could see the truth, maybe they could also make others see the 'truth' that the Sheikah wanted them to see? Dark wasn't a Sheikah… though he was Link's dark half, sheik was Zelda's dark half… was it possible? He'd think about it later.
"You are no friend of mine. You tried to kill me!" Link told dark, an angry growl hide within his words. He looked up as he heard the rustle of grass, and was once again letting out a yelp of surprise.
Dark had moved ever so silently, and was now hugging Link, his arms wrapped around the blue eyed Hylians chest, his silver hair mixed with pale golden as he rested his head on Link's shoulder. "I was only doing what I had to do, if I didn't at least try… I would have died. You realize this, don't you? Ganondorf that bastard forced me to fight you. Had I not obeyed, or at least tried to, he would have killed me." he murmured, his voice soft and alluring, velvety and dark.
Link blinked a few times in confusion in Dark's direction; as much as the hero hated to admit it, his attempts at muddling his brain were quite working. Link shook his head and lifted his arms to the shadows shoulders, trying to pry him away; why Dark was so clingy… and strange, was beyond Link. "Yeah yeah, okay whatever! He's dead, Sheik took care of that, and now you don't have to be anywhere's near me." there was a slightly commanding and pleading tone in his voice. Dark's actions were… freaking the inexperienced male out, a lot. He wanted Dark to release him and just disappear again.
Dark leaned away from Link, an evil smirk on his face. "Oh, but what if I want to be around you, hmmm?" he asked, a dark purr lined his words.
Link sighed and finally pushed Dark away, blowing his bangs out of his eyes with an irritated breath. "Well, what if I don't want you to be around me, hmmm?" he asked irritably, mimicking Dark's tone of voice.
Dark chuckled and slowly got to his feet. He held out a hand to Link, which was ignored. Link stood as well, giving Dark a glare. "Wither you like it or not Hero, I'm here to stay. After all, who can escape from their own shadow?" with those words, Dark's form melting it seemed, falling to the ground as a mist and disappearing.
Link looked alarmed as he quickly swept his gaze around the area, looking for where Dark would appear. ~Look down fairy boy~ a voice echoed through his mind. Not just anyone's voice though, of course it just had to be Dark's. Link glanced down to see his Shadow leaning against the wall of a nearby building. Red eyes glowed for a brief moment, before it shifted and once more joined with him.
A shiver went down Link's spine, how the hell was he to get away from Dark now? ~You don't, that's the beauty of it! So long as you hold darkness within you, it will be transferred to me. So long as you remain Human, you'll always be stuck with me.~
"Liiiiiiink! Are you coming or what?"
Malon's voice rang across the ranch, shaking Link free of Dark's, well, dark mind grip. Link shook his head from side to side briefly before he hurriedly ran to catch up with her. "Yeah, I'm coming! Don't get your cucco's in frenzy!" he yelled after her, earning him a friendly smile from his child hood friend.
~No Link, you're wrong. It's not just you, I'm here as well. I will always be here, don't forget that…~
