Yes, this is, indeed, an Alita AU but with DC Comics elements, most importantly the whole lantern thing. Also, the world isn't split in two, and everything is going on fine at an awesome cyberpunk town called Red Lanternville which was one of the results of a technological rise, under the protection of the Leyenar Corps.

Yes, in this AU, Leyenar Josephine Electrana Oh is known as Chancellor Leyenar, the founder and legendary first ruler of Red Lanternville, instead of Director Leyenar. (In this fic, the term "Chancellor" is used to describe something that is quite similar to the Japanese Shogun.) The only correspondence between myself and this version of Leyenar is that both of us completely changed the world, and died peacefully when the time came for us.

No, Yuuko may be depicted as evil here, but actually, I'm neutral to her and if there's anybody that should be introduced as Chiren the villain, it's Kuyo.

No, I'm sorry to tell, but no aliens in this fic. You heard me, NO ALIENS! (although there are really ancient movies with aliens in them and mentions of Chancellor Leyenar's extraordinary life, which involved interacting with a lot o' aliens)

Once upon a time, somewhere in USA was a town called Zalem, a much-feared world power, ruled over by the evil dictator Souseki.

Zalem was a dull, gray, unhappy place where all creative and imaginative minds were suppressed by Souseki and his troops, and the citizens of the town wished for a savior to rescue them. The Great Lantern, Leyenar, and her comrades, the Leyenar Corps, heard the cries of help from the good people of Zalem and decided to go against Souseki and his army.

The Leyenar Corps Ring, though colored red, radiated of nine different lights:

Life, to all the suffering people of this universe

Death, to Souseki and his evil brethren

Desire, to completely change the world (Since desire is another form of greed...)

Fear, something to strike into the hearts of evil

Will, to survive, and that's how we roll

Hope, for all who have lost it

Compassion, for those who are going through a lot

Love, for all that we strive to protect

And the most important one of all, Rage, the emotion Leyenar had to fight back whether she wanted to unleash it

The sight of Zalem made the entire Corps rage-driven, and they subsequently got into a big, terrible fight with Souseki's army. After many years of bloodshed, the fight was finally brought to a close by a one-on-one duel between Leyenar and Souseki. The fight lasted for hours, but however, Leyenar managed to strike Souseki down with a sword formed with the light of her ring, and he was the first baddie ever to be sent to Bad-Anon, a Leyenar Corps prison specifically built to rehabilitate villains. Leyenar, now the ruler of Zalem, changed the town's name to "Red Lanternville" respectively. The Souseki Temple, the symbol of suppression, was taken down by the Lanterns and was replaced by Oa, the headquarters of the Leyenar Corps and the symbol of revolution. And now, Red Lanternville was not just any town—it was known to be supportive of all creative and imaginative minds, rivaled only by a pretty good education offered to the children of the town. It was a happy, safe place, where families would move to in hopes for the best and for their kids to have a good childhood.

2755 A.D.

The Ichihara Family was at it again.

Yuuko, the leader of the criminal organization and self-proclaimed ruler of Red Lanternville, the arch-nemesis of the late Chancellor Kendappa, had ordered her loyal subordinate Watanuki to assault the innocent citizens, hoping that it would strike fear into the hearts of the meek. Chancellor Leyenar who? To Yuuko the Japanese ultranationalist, she was but a dead Chosenjin. Hell, Yuuko didn't even care about the fact that Leyenar had denounced her Korean citizenship and offered her allegiance to the United States of America long ago(Of course, Leyenar did retain some of the Korean culture, but it was no secret that she considered herself American)!

The citizens of Red Lanternville trembled in fear as Watanuki's troops gathered around them with large blasters in their hands. They all held onto each other tightly for dear life when suddenly, a booming voice hit their ears:

"Fear not, good people of Red Lanternville, the cavalry has arrived!" The citizens turned their eyes to the skies instantly.

"They're here!" cried a woman.

"We're saved!" cried her husband.

And what on earth did the people see? It was the infamous Leyenar Corps, of which all the members wore the signature red ring on their fingers proudly, and leading them was Chancellor Taishakuten, the 572nd Chancellor, successor of Chancellor Kendappa, and actual ruler of Red Lanternville. He was known for being nerdy, bright, bold, daring, rebellious and even a little bit off his rocker, which bore a striking resemblance to that of the deceased Chancellor Leyenar, not physically, but mentally. Excelled in both his kindness and immense rage power, the people of Red Lanternville virtually regarded Taishakuten as a god or something, with some even claiming him to be the reincarnation of Chancellor Leyenar herself, regarding their similar personalities. His ring cast a fearsome light on the enemy forces as he recited the Leyenar Corps oath:

With strength and rage of crimson red,

Taken from a corpse wrongfully dead,

We fight evil with might and hate,

No one else shall decide her fate!

Loud music began to blare from the speakers of the Leyenar Corps dreadnought, which everybody instantly recognized as Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Diana Ross, as Taishakuten began snapping out orders. "Raise your defenses, Lanterns. Prepare to engage!" Immediately, the Lanterns engaged into a fierce battle with the Ichihara Family forces. "Stay on target, stay on target! Give 'em a taste o' the other white meat!"

Suddenly, Taishakuten noticed Watanuki aiming an energy cannon straight at him.

"Cap'n! Look out!" Lantern Yasha, the top agent in the Corps, quickly flew in, pushed his superior out of the way and blocked the blast with an energy shield from his ring. He subsequently fell to the ground.

"Yasha!" cried Taishakuten, as he landed next to his fallen friend. "Yasha, you OK?"

"Yes, sir, I'm fine. I'm...just drained. Just leave me some ammo, a little water, some chips if you have 'em."

Pretty soon, the situation was cleared up, and Watanuki was all chained up by several Leyenar Corps members. "Please...please don't kill me." he pleaded.

"Say "Pretty please"!" smirked Taishakuten, pressing a red energy knife to the fallen mobster's throat.

"Ummm...pretty please?" muttered Watanuki.

"What? No sugar?" demanded Taishakuten, with his hands on his hips.

"Pretty please with sugar on top and whipped cream and those little chocolate sprinkles! WAAAAAAAAAAAH!" wailed Watanuki. Subsequently, he was whisked away by the Lanterns who had him in chains.

Ain't no mountain high enough,

Ain't no valley low enough,

Ain't no river wide enough,

To keep me from you!

After Taishakuten returned to the Chancellor's Residence of Oa, he contacted Lady Souma, the widow of his predecessor. It had been quite some time since Kendappa's death at the hands of Yuuko, and Taishakuten had been checking on Souma every now and then after the horrible incident. Souma was thankful, since the crazy talks with the new Chancellor had been preventing her from committing suicide out of despair. Today's subject was about the assault, which was successfully prevented by the Leyenar Corps, much to Souma's delight.

"Thank you, sir, for apprehending one of those Ichihara Family goons." she said over the phone. "I hope you catch Yuuko sometime soon, so my wife can finally rest in peace."

"You're welcome." replied Taishakuten, and then ended the call. Yes, he would DEFINITELY catch Yuuko someday, and she will be sent to Bad-Anon to be rehabilitated like all others, 'cause Chancellor Leyenar said so. She never approved of people killing off villains, that was the primary reason why she made Bad-Anon. As Taishakuten was deep in his thoughts, Lantern Analie, his former comrade and current subordinate, entered the room. Analie had been hiding a crush on Souma since she and Taishakuten were mere cadets, but when Souma married Kendappa and became "the modern day Cinderella", her dreams were crushed cruelly and Taishakuten understood that feelings more than anybody else, since he had a crush on a certain somebody too, back then. But that's another story, right?

"Sir," said Analie, "The job of obliterating the Ichihara Family...may I handle that? Not just for the job of impressing Lady Souma, but..."

"I know how you feel, buddy, but I think it's not the time for you yet." replied her superior. "Plus, Lady Souma's not ready to move on."

MEANWHILE...

"My love, so many ladies have tried and failed...to strap a saddle on Yasha the stallion. But I want to share everything with you, 'cause you're the wind beneath my wings, the light of my life. So, may I ask, will you marry me?" said Yasha, holding up his Red Lantern ring.

"I'm breaking up with you." replied his girlfriend.

"But...but..." Yasha stammered. It was then a fancy sports car pulled up in front of them. The driver stepped out and knelt down in front of Yasha's girlfriend. "Will you marry me, my little sweety?" he asked.

"Oh, honey, I would love to!" replied the woman. Mr. Fancy Sports Car kissed her hand and slipped a sparkly flower-shaped diamond ring onto her finger. As Yasha watched his ex-girlfriend drive off with Mr. Fancy Sports Car, he sighed in frustration. He still couldn't believe his ex-girlfriend had been cheating on him this whole time. I mean, why would a pretty girl like her dump a Lantern like him for a handsome guy like Mr. Fancy Sports Car?

Little did he know, he would meet somebody who would totally change his life.
