Chapter 2

Ever since they had been partners Bobby and Alex had spent part of their Saturday together and this Saturday was no different they usually went to the range and shot off a few rounds before going for coffee.

"She's early "breathed Bobby as he arrived at the range to find Alex already inside shooting and it was obvious she was pissed off at something or someone.

"Hay Alex "said Bobby waiting till she was reloading her gun to speak to her.

"Bobby "said Alex surprised she hadn't seen him come in, but as she saw him she smiled setting her gun aside and walking by his side.

"Ready Bobby "said Alex waiting for him to be ready before firing again.

As they shot off round after round they couldn't hear a thing through the noise of the range, but glancing at her he saw her mouth moving as she shot and noticed the angry look on her face and he couldn't help, but wonder if this had anything to do with Joe and the job.

"That was fun "said Alex as they packed up and were leaving a few hours later following him out. Alex turned to go to the shop where they usually got their coffee not noticing as Bobby went the opposite direction until she felt a hand on her arm. It was Bobby who grabbed her arm turning her around walking her in the opposite direction of the coffee shop.

"Where are we going the coffee shop is that way "asked Alex looking at him as she walked with him down the street?

"You're angry you don't need coffee you need a drink "said Bobby looking at her seeing shock on her face that he had noticed her emotions. They were silent until they found the bar they always went to and once they were inside they began to talk.

" I'm not angry I'm fine Bobby believe me when I say I'm fine " said Alex drinking her beer as the words left her mouth, but with one look from him she knew he saw through her lie he had a way of knowing what everyone was thinking.

" Don't lie to me you can't Alex I know you and I know when your pissed off so stop denying it and just talk about it " said Bobby looking at her with that look that at that moment made her want to punch him.

" That's funny Joe says I'm a closed book that he can't open and yet I'm pretty open to you he's my husband and your my partner and you know me better than he does " said Alex turning her head to smile at him as he smiled back.

They sipped their beers and when the bottles were empty they ordered two more.

"Come on Alex you know you can talk about with me "whispered Bobby handing her a new beer without looking at her.

"You're the only one I would talk about it with "said Alex looking at him suddenly kissing his cheek. The moment her lips grazed his cheek Bobby felt his heart beat faster and he couldn't help, but smile as their eyes met.

"I'll always be here for you I'm your friend and most importantly I'm your partner "whispered Bobby pulling back as they picked up their bottles clinking the bottles together and drinking.

"Joe didn't come home last night he took a double shift and didn't even tell me "said Alex her voice becoming very angry.

" Things aren't turning out the way I thought I thought we would start a family by now or at least be making decisions together like a team like partners like us " said Alex pointing at the both of them and as she did he didn't miss the crack in her voice. They were silent as they drank their beers Bobby didn't know what to say and Alex was waiting for him to speak.

"What do you think the problem is "asked Bobby looking at her making her look at him as he asked the question?

" The job Bobby he doesn't come home he doesn't want to come home and be with me I mean Bobby I love my job, but at the end of the day I want to come home and be with him, but he's never there I come home to an empty apartment sometimes I don't know why I even bother coming home I know he won't be there " said Alex her voice angry, but now there were tears running down her cheeks and when he saw them Bobby reacted immediately hugging her.

"Thank you Bobby "breathed Alex as she pulled away finishing her beer. Bobby walked her back to the apartment saying goodbye to her at the door. The apartment was just as she had left it dark and empty and she knew just by looking at it that Joe wasn't coming home and all she could do was sign in defeat. She went to her room pulling off her shirt and throwing it on the bed stopping when she heard it hit something.

" What the hell " whispered Alex lifting her shirt finding a box and an envelope underneath and then she signed knowing that at least Joe had come home even for a minute.

The envelope had her name on it and she immediately recognized Joe's handwriting. Her mind raced trying to figure out what was inside and the only thing that came to mind was the one thing she feared the most; she was afraid inside the box would be his wedding ring and in the envelope divorce papers. Signing she sat down on the bed picking up the box first part of her was dying to see what was inside.

" OH my god how could he afford these " gasped Alex after opening the box finding a beautiful pair of diamond and ruby earrings inside that she knew Joe couldn't afford, but she had to admit she loved them. Next she opened the envelope and like she expected there was a letter inside. This is what the letter said.

Alex

I know you're mad at me right now and I really wish I could explain everything, but I can't. All I'm doing is trying to work more so I can save up some money for our future. I know this extra work takes me away from you more now, but the way I see it it's all worth it if we can save some money to maybe start a family. I promise you that when all this is over I'll make it up to you, but until then remember I love you.

Joe.

Alex flopped down on the bed at that moment she wasn't sure whether to be happy or sad over the contents of the letter. On one hand he was working towards everything she wanted for them, but on the other hand this wouldn't be the first time Joe lied to her. Alex didn't know what to believe she had to talk to Joe face to face.

"I've got to talk to him now "whispered Alex getting dressed again and heading for the door.

"How the hell did he afford those earrings "whispered Alex looking at them as she walked out of the apartment and driving to the station where Joe worked not hesitating a minute as she walked inside.

Walking inside Alex looked everywhere for Joe.

"Hay "called someone from behind her making her stop in her search. Turning she expected to see Joe, but instead she saw one of his friends Terry.

"Hay Terry I'm looking for Joe do you know where Joe is "asked Alex her words rushed. Terry looked confused the minute the words left her mouth.

"Joe should be at home "said Terry gently.

"He took a double shift tonight "said Alex trying hard to breath, but struggling to do so her words heavy.

"Alex he took a double shift last night the chief doesn't allow two double shifts in a row "whispered Terry walking close to her side grabbing her arm as she started to shake.

"Oh my god "breathed Alex sitting down on the nearest bench at that moment she wanted to cry.

"Terry don't tell Joe about this "whispered Alex standing as she ran as fast as she possibly could out of there wanting to scream to cry to find her husband and beat him senseless.

Terry called out to her as she left, but she ignored him.

" God damn Joe where the hell are you and what the hell are you doing " seethed Alex after getting into her car and just sitting in the driver's seat suddenly hitting the steering wheel making the horn honk. Alex drove home, but she didn't get out of the car she sat there continually hitting the wheel wanting to scream, but holding back.

" I hate you Joe I fucking hate you I wish you were dead " screamed Alex bursting into tears the minute the words left her mouth her head falling onto the wheel making the horn honk again. Getting control of herself she got out of the car going back up to the apartment and going straight to the bedroom.

She fell onto her bed sobbing like a baby until she got control of herself again rolling over and sitting up damning her husband over and over again in her head. If Joe wasn't working a double shift where was he and who was he with Alex couldn't help, but wonder was her husband cheating on her.

" I don't want to believe he'd do that to me " whispered Alex laying on the bed again and suddenly she wasn't sad anymore she was mad and she was determined to find out what he was doing and make him pay for whatever it was. She laid there so long that soon the night was late and dark and soon he was home from where ever he had been. She knew she couldn't let him know she suspected anything she had to pretend she knew nothing as hard as it was.

"Hi babe "said Joe as eh came into the bedroom and Alex managed to smile as he took her hand pulling her into his arms.

"Hi "whispered Alex as he pulled her into his lap as he sat on the bed. Joe didn't suspect a thing as he kissed as if nothing was wrong, but whether he was cheating on her or not there was one thing Alex knew for sure he had lied to her. They crawled into bed later that night and as usual Joe wrapped his arms around her getting on top of her and kissing her, but now that Alex knew what she knew it wasn't the same. He pulled himself out of his pants and removed her clothes and Alex knew she could say no because he would know something was up so she decided then and there to let him fuck her.

"Joe "whispered Alex closing her eyes as he slammed inside her making her moan she couldn't help it she loved it despite his lies she couldn't deny she loved what he did to her body. Alex couldn't say no all she wanted was him to finish fucking her and to never stop and then when he was done he could leave her alone. It didn't last long it was over before she knew it ending with them both coming. He didn't say a word to her after he pulled away falling asleep quickly leaving Alex to lay there with only her thoughts.
