Chapter 2- Inuyasha

I lay in bed with my eyes boring into the ceiling, in futile efforts to sleep. Glancing at the clock to check to see if anytime has passed, it reads 5:45am, only 10 minutes have passed. Groaning, I covered my eyes with my arm in hopes of catching a little bit of sleep before the first day of school. But every time I closed my eyes all I saw was her face, and her face brought the feelings I was suppressing back to the surface. Fuck this. I climbed out of bed and gave up on any hope of trying to get some rest, and started my new morning routine, blaring music as I worked out all the pent up aggression. By the time I finished my workout routine it was 7:00am. I hopped into the shower enjoying the hot stream of water engulfing me. Leaning my forearms against the pale grey tiled walls as I bowed my head into the hot spray of water. Mindlessly I washed my body while my brain was stuck in memories and thoughts of her. It's been 50 days, but my mind and body go through the motions as if it were only the first. I turned off the water and proceeded to get ready for school. I hated wearing this damn uniform, white buttoned up long sleeved shirt paired with a dark shade of green khakis. I threw on my favourite red zip up hoodie as I headed downstairs to grab some breakfast. My mother was already at work so I opened the cupboard and grabbed my favourite cup of ramen; ramen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm not complaining though, I choose to eat this stuff. It's fucking delicious. After I eat I pulled out my cell phone, reading the time 7:45am. Grabbing my cellphone I send my best friend Miroku a quick text 'yo perv. I'll be there in 10 mins you better be ready and not jerking off.' DING. I checked my phone and read his response, 'got it.' Rolling my eyes as the daily thought of why I was friends with this idiot enters my brain. I grabbed my keys off the counter and locked the door. I reached my car in three strides, opening the door to my red mustang and pulled out of my driveway, heading towards Miroku's house.

After 10 minutes I arrived at Miroku's, honking my horn to let him know I was outside waiting. I pull out my phone knowing it would take him another 10 minutes to get outside, scrolling through my pictures I look for the only remnant of her left, the only thing I can't seem to get rid of. I click on the photo of the raven haired girl and take in her features; dark brown eyes, perky nose, and small pursed lips. She had on a white v-neck shirt paired with a red skirt, her face was tilted towards me as my own face was tilted towards her. We were entranced in each other. She was beautiful. It wasn't just her beauty, it was her being; she was sweet and the kindest person I knew. I loved her. And then she left, taking my heart with her. The sound of the door slamming brought me back to the present and I clicked on the home button; pasting a nonchalant expression on my face before turning my hear towards the passenger door. Miroku opened the car door "Thanks for the ride Yash, sorry for the wait. But you can't rush perfection. I mean, look at me. No wonder all the ladies love me." I roll my eyes and punch him in the arm, as he grimaces I laugh saying "Whatever you say perv, I'm sure Sango would love to hear what you just said, maybe I'll tell her." The mention of Sango's name caused Miroku to grimace and plead "I was just kidding, are you trying to get your best friend killed? You know she's my one and only. My reaction to other girls are chemical man. Can't stop a chemical reaction right." I laugh, what an idiot. I don't blame him though, Sango was a badass. If she were my girlfriend I would have reacted the same way. Miroku continues to spew out nonsense as we arrived at our destination. We leave my car and head towards our regular hang out spot before school starts, a picnic bench a few metres from the school entrance. I looked at my watch, 8:44am. As Miroku continues talking I tune him out and stare in the direction of the parking lot. I see a small yellow Volkswagen beetle pulling into a parking space. Hm, must be a new student. I watched her climb out of her car and my heart stills. It can't be her, but it looks like her. The same shade of black silky hair blows in the wind, long slim legs, my heart is racing, I needed to see her face. Without being aware of what I was doing, I started walking towards her. She looked nervous, anxious even, I knew it couldn't be her but my legs kept walking. As I get closer to this girl, I realized that it wasn't her. Although their features were similar, it wasn't her. It didn't smell like her. My heart plummeted towards my stomach, I needed to get over her. I make my way towards the door and accidentally bumped this unknown girl in the shoulder, "Watch where you're going" I spat out in annoyance. Annoyed at the fact that this girl wasn't her, annoyed that I was still affected by her. I was jostled out of my thoughts with the feel of delicate fingers pressed into my shoulder, forcing me to turn around. Our eyes met; my amber eyes meeting her bright brown eyes and there was a sudden surge of energy that passed. I'm studying her face, she has a small delicate face, piercing light brown eyes, a perky nose with voluptuous lips. I almost missed her yelling in a voice as sweet as her face, "Are you kidding me? You're the one who bumped into me! If anything YOU should be watching where you're going!" I can't help but smirk, does this little girl think she's scary? She's kind of cute and definitely sassy. She's definitely not her. Annoyed at myself for that last thought I turned away and continued to walk into the school towards my locker, leaning against it as I processed what just happened. Interrupting my moment of introspection, Miroku waves his hand in my face "Yash you okay man? You look like you seen a ghost or something." I grunt "Something like that."Hm, now that I think about it, that new girl kinda looks like Kikyo!" I grabbed Miroku by the collar of his shirt and slammed him into the locker "Don't mention that name around me. And she doesn't look like her." Miroku sighs in defeat as he puts his hands up. "Sorry Yash, I won't mention it again, if you're going to hurt me, just don't hit the face", stupid idiot. I snickered and released him from my grips. The bell rings to signal the start of class. I looked at my schedule and I am relieved to see that my first class is math with Mr. Myoga. Mr. Myoga was good friends with my dad, since my dad passed away he cuts me some slack. I made my way to the bathroom before heading to class, prolonging the inevitable torture of being back in school. I'd rather be running around outside, discovering new places and actually experiencing life. I looked into the grimy mirror as I pull my hand through the top of my hair, splashing water onto my face to cool me down. I just hope I don't see that girl again, even though she wasn't her, she was close enough.

I walked out of the bathroom and headed towards Mr. Myoga's classroom. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door as he's going through attendance. He must have seen me in his peripheral vision as he says in an unbothered tone "Ah, Mr. Inuyasha, thank you for gracing us with your presence on the first day of school. I hope this will be a recurring theme", I smiled and politely responded "Mr. M, the pleasure is all mine" and began to bow towards him and the rest of the class. Mr. M doesn't respond and continues to recite names off the list, as the rest of the class stifle their giggles. I glanced around the classroom and felt the surge of energy as I locked eyes with the raven haired, smart mouthed girl. I smirked as I spotted an empty seat directly behind her. She rolled her eyes and gave me a look that was supposed to be menacing, as I made my way down the aisle towards my new seat for the semester. As I sat down behind her, I noticed that her hair had hues of brown, not just the raven colour I thought it was, and she smelled like cotton candy. I looked beside her and see Hojo. Rolling my eyes, of course, that guy was pretty much the welcoming community when it came to pretty girls. Wait- where did that come from? She wasn't pretty. I mean, she has nice hair, smells like candy, and has nice eyes. But that doesn't mean she's pretty, right? I rolled my eyes at myself, don't be an idiot. I tried to pay attention to the front of the class but my eyes naturally fell back to the new girl and Hojo. Hojo leaned in towards her and reflexively my hand turned into a fist. He seems to be whispering something, apparently something funny since she's looking at him like he's dessert and giggling. Ugh, gross. He's not even funny. He comes off as this nice guy, but it's all an act. Without thinking I kicked the leg of her chair causing her to jostle out of her seat. I stifle a laugh and smirked as she looks at me appalled.

"Did you just kick my chair?"

"It was an accident."

"That doesn't sound like an apology."

"Because it wasn't" I retorted. I can see the vein popping out of her temple, she's mad and for some reason it makes me want to continue the bickering. Before she can respond, the almighty saint Hojo puts his hand on her shoulder "Kagome, don't bother with him. You can't win an argument with him." I stared at his hand and my nails begin to bite into the palm of my hands. She looks at Hojo and nods, then turns to me with a dirty look before swiveling around. Kagome. That was the name of the sassy brown eyed girl sitting in front of me. I took my eyes off of her and looked towards the front of the class. I tried to pay attention to the lesson but my eyes would constantly dart towards the two in front me. I could feel my blood rising whenever Saint Hojo leaned into her or touched her, I wanted to punch him. I don't know why I'm reacting this way towards a girl I don't even know, but I can't help it. There's something between us, I can feel it. Every time we locked eyes a current of some sort intertwines us. I watched her slump towards the window, causing me to smile at the distance she's putting between her and Hojo. The bell rings signalling the end of the period and I stall at my desk to watch her a little more. Kagome stands up stretching her back as she raises her arms above her head. I avert my eyes as her shirt rises a bit exposing her yellow skin. She waves bye to Hojo and begins collecting her things. I waited until she left to collect my bag and walk out the same door. This was going to be an interesting year.
