Knock knock
Mako stood outside Sato estate, bag in hand, as he waited for the door to open. It was late at night, so he was hoping it wasn't too late for Asami.
The door opened and in the doorway stood the household butler.
"Master Mako. We were not expecting you."
"I'm sorry. It's late, I know. Is Asami still up?"
"I shall go fetch her at once."
"Thank you."
The butler stepped aside to let Mako in. Once the door was closed, he made his way up the staircase. Mako set his bag down and looked around. Asami had done some re-decorating recently. New vases, pictures, and a different coat of paint through the entryway.
"Mako? What are you doing here?"
He saw Asami descending from the stairs with her bathrobe on.
"Hey, I hope I'm not intruding."
"I thought you were in the Northern water tribe with Eska." She approached him and noticed the bag in his hand. "Is everything alright?"
"Oh uh, yeah. Everything's fine. Uh, Lin just wanted me to help with some cases so I thought I'd visit Republic City for a while."
Asami crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Without Eska?"
Mako scratched the back of his head in an attempt not to look nervous in front of Asami. It didn't work. "Well see…She's…busy with…chief stuff."
"Uh huh. So there's nothing wrong at all? Eska was alright with you coming to Republic City by yourself and staying here for a while?"
"Nope. Nothing's wrong. We just have stuff to do is all. Separately, of course."
There was a long, awkward pause. Asami swore she saw him start sweating. "Fine. You can stay here in the meantime. I'll show you to one of the nicer rooms we just had renovated. It's really gorgeous."
He let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Asami."
Lin watched as Mako quickly wolfed down his food. He had two bowls of rice, a large plate of fish and vegetables, two cups of tea, a few small pieces of fruit pies, and a large bowl of steaming noodles spread out on his desk. It was still early in the morning, so she couldn't fathom why he was eating so much.
"Slow down, kid. You're going to make yourself sick. What's the matter? Your wife starving you at home?"
'You could say that' He thought while swallowing his food and setting his chopsticks down. "Um no, I've just been so busy that uh..I haven't had time to eat much."
"Of course." She wasn't buying it but she didn't press the issue further. "Anyway, here are the files. Like I said before, not of any importance but if you want to handle them then knock yourself out." Lin placed the papers on his desk carefully to make sure she didn't knock over any of his food.
"Thanks." He pushed aside some of the food so he could open one of the files. What was inside the first one made him want to laugh. "There's a man who thinks the Avatar is stealing hair off his head at night?"
"I told you it wasn't of any importance. Guy's a lunatic. He's been calling every morning complaining about how Korra stole another strand of hair from his head while he was sleeping. It's not worth looking into."
"I'll take it anyway. I think I have an idea that'll please everyone."
Lin turned around and waved a hand nonchalantly as she left. "Whatever."
"What do you mean Mako's here? I thought he was going to be in the Northern tribe for a while."
Korra and Asami sat on the couch in Korra's apartment. It was plain but suited Korra's needs well. After Kuvira's defeat, she decided to start living on her own and so far, she was enjoying the privacy and having a place to actually call her own.
"He came to my door last night with a bag. He was acting strange but he wouldn't tell me anything. I think he and Eska may be having problems." Asami said before taking a sip of some tea Korra gave her.
"Already? They hadn't been married that long."
"I don't know what's going on exactly, but it seems like he ran from her. Eska doesn't seem like the type to let her man go far without her. I'm not sure why he married her in the first place, especially after that whole fiasco with Bolin." Asami put her cup on the coffee table before leaning back on the couch with her arms crossed. "Wonder if she's too much for him and he's starting to realize it now."
"Who knows. Let's hope she doesn't track him down and end up destroying half the city."
Asami chuckled. "What a disaster that would be."
Knock knock
Korra looked over at Asami, who shrugged. She left the couch and proceeded over to the door. Upon opening, she found Mako on the other side with a pen and notepad in hand.
"Hey Korra. I uh, need to ask you some questions about..something."
"Um, alright. Come in, I guess." She stepped aside to allow him in.
"Hey Asami." Mako nodded at her.
"What do you need to ask Korra about?"
"Nothing important. It's just a formality, but there's a guy in this city who thinks Korra's been stealing strands of his hair at night."
"I'm sorry, what?" Asami and Korra said in unison.
"I know, I know. It's silly. I already handled it. I went to a barbershop, got some a small bag of hair, and gave it to the guy. I convinced him that was just someone dressed up as Korra and that the person has been incarcerated. I'm just here to close the case, so to speak."
"You're not really going to ask me a bunch of stupid questions, are you?" Korra crossed her arms.
"No, of course not. I'm using it as an excuse to visit my best friends."
"Well since we're best friends, why don't you tell us what's going on between you and Eska?" Korra grabbed Mako's shoulders and forced him to sit on the couch between her and Asami.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Things are fine." He said, trying to stop his face from turning red.
"Come on, why would you come all the way to Republic City just for some useless police work? Did something happen?" Asami placed her hand on his shoulder.
"No, nothing's happened. It's just.." He slouched over and sighed. Maybe he should tell someone. He was at his wit's ends trying to figure out what was going on with Eska. She was already complicated as is, now she was just impossible. He had to tell someone. Any advice would be welcomed at this point. "Eska's…changed recently."
"Changed how?" Asami asked as she looked over at Korra.
"Well, I'm not sure how to put it but she's been…very affectionate lately."
"Affectionate? As in she wants to cuddle you all day long? I'm not sure how that's a bad thing." Korra said.
"No, it's not just cuddle. It's uh-"
Before he could finish his sentence, the entrance door slammed opened. In the doorway stood a very irritated Eska. If her eyes could kill, no one in the apartment would be left standing. Everyone jumped from the couch, with Korra and Asami moving away from Mako so they wouldn't feel Eska's wrath.
"Hey uh…honey. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be back home doing…chiefly duties?" He tried not to show his fear or surprise but he felt like he was visibly shaking at this point.
"You should be back home doing your spousal duties." She strode over to Mako. Every inch closer she got to him made him sweat even more, until she was standing close to him with their chests almost touching.
"I told you, I had to do some police work. Besides, I left you something to help with that."
Eska pulled out the phallus object from her sleeve. "It does not suffice." She carelessly threw the toy in a random direction. Much to Asami's horror, it was in her direction and somehow ended up in her mouth from her gasping at the sight of it.
"Asami!" Korra said with concern when Asami spit it out and almost fell over from nausea.
"Have you grown disgusted with my body? Why do you not wish to satisfy me?" Eska didn't break her eye contact with Mako. If he wasn't a nervous wreck already, he was sure to be in a few seconds.
"No, no it's not that!"
"But it is true, then."
"No, it's not. I love your body. It's just, well.."
"Is there someone else? I will kill them." Eska glanced over at Korra and Asami, who froze under her glare. Mako grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him.
"There's no one else. But, don't you think you should see a doctor? You've been wanting to go at it 10, sometimes 15 times a day for the past couple of weeks. It's starting to worry me. You seem too hormonal."
"I do not need a doctor. I need my husband. Now." She grabbed the collar of his shirt.
"Fine. I'll do it. But we're going to talk about this afterwards. Deal?"
She ignored his request to turn to Korra. "We require a room for copulation." She said to her before dragging Mako to one of the bedrooms.
"Uh..okay, take the one on the left. And I see you're heading into the one on the right. Which is my bedroom. That I will have burn later. Great."
"At least you didn't have that thing in your mouth." Asami gagged.
"Let's go to the spa and pretend none of this ever happened."
"Agreed."
Mako sat on the edge of the bed with Eska behind him. Her hands roamed along his chest and stomach while she kissed along his neck and shoulder. They had just finished a few minutes ago and she still was not satisfied.
"Are you ready to talk about this?" He asked.
"No." One of her hands reached down to his crotch but he caught it before she could touch him.
"We're talking about this right now. It's getting out of hand. Is there something wrong? Why do you refuse to go see a doctor?"
"Why do I need to see one just because I wish to be satisfied by my husband?"
"So you don't think it's unusual that you're suddenly so physical and insatiable?"
"No." She attempted to release her hand from his grip to touch his crotch but his grip tightened.
"Look, I'm not doing anything else until you get checked out. I just want to be sure you're alright. This behavior isn't normal from you."
Her touch stopped. He felt her leave the bed to gather her clothes. He turned to watch her dress her but noticed a clear, small bottle filled with white powder fall from her robes. It wasn't until after she left that he went to grab it. Upon examining it, he noticed Varrick's company logo on it. Someone was going to have a lot of explaining to do.
