Prologue

I have a tight grip on Theo's sleeve. How the fuck are all of us going to get out of here?

Theo and I are hiding underneath one of the desks of our classroom. He has one arm wrapped around his girlfriend and the other around me. I'm thankful that this all started during a class with my best friend or I'd be doing something I'd probably regret afterwards.

The blinds have been drawn, door has been kept locked and our math teacher has turned off the light. She told us to gather in the corner, away from the view of the door so no one could see us at the small window. We were quick to comply. I didn't listen at first, because I had to grab my backpack. Theo was pissed at first, but then he understood quickly grabbing his, and we ducked under the desk close to the corner.

When the alarms went off we didn't think about it, thinking it was just a drill, but when we heard the first gun shot ring through the hallways we went into action. The teacher was shaking and students were crying. The only people who seemed to be under control were me and Theo.

Theo's dad is a cop and has trained Theo for something like this. Even though his dad never wanted something like this to happen, he would always want his son to be prepared. There has been many shootings happening lately anyways. You can't trust anyone. Not to mention what my mom does and who she's close to. She has taught me how to keep myself protected and that's why we've had to constantly move. I've only told Theo that she works as a cashier at the grocery store because I know that even though we are close, he is still faithful to his dad's police work.

This shit with the family is getting on my nerves and this school shooting better not be the reason.

Theo and I have texted both of our parents and then put our phones away. We don't need them taken away. Then we pull our bags closer, our guns in the bottom of our bags as usual where we both decided to keep them.

I look over at Theo, who is trying to comfort Ashley, and I nudge his shoulder. He frowns at me. "Do you think there's more than one Shooter?" I whisper. A shadow casts over his face.

"Due to the fact that I saw two shadows just walk by the door." he growls, going for his backpack. "I think so."

I grab my backpack and pull my gun out, making sure it's on safety and then hiding it in my jacket. Theo does exactly the same, and we make sure no one sees us do it. The day Theo found out about my gun was when it fell out of my bag on the way to the cafeteria. He quickly grabbed it and stuffed it back in my bag for me, but he made me explain everything afterwards to him. He wouldn't talk to me for a few days, but he finally gave in and started talking to me again, saying he missed my annoying ass. The day after he apologized for ignoring me he showed me his gun.

A few of the girls scream and some of the guys grab the teacher to keep her away from the door when the glass is smashed out from the small window of the door. Theo and I stay close to the front of the group, even though the teacher pushes us behind her. Theo pushes Ashley further back behind him. When she tries to argue he glares at her. I ignore that though because the guy behind me gasps.

The guy has a terrified look on his face and I know why. I hear more glass falling on the ground and when I turn my head towards the door I see a muscular arm come through the broken window and turn the door knob. When the door opens a man in black walks in, carrying an assault rifle in his arms.

The room grows colder. It's as if all the life has been sucked out of everyone as soon as the man looks our way. The menacing smile that appears on his face makes one of the girls start to sob. That just makes the fucker's smile widen.

When he speaks, it sounds hoarse, like he's a smoker. "All of you get up and go into the gym." he orders. "If any of you try to run I'll put a bullet through your fucking skull." he says with a grin.

I look over at Theo, but he's too busy glaring at the man who is threatening to take our lives.
