Chapter 2- Part 2
Allison POV
I pointed at an eighth note and said, "So how many beats does this get?"
I paused as I felt something wash through me. Then I remembered. Everything. Jefferson, Grace, the hat… Wonderland. I shivered at that, and kids around the room all had looks of shock on their face and I said, "Go find your parents. Your real ones. Go, go, go!"
They all ran out of the room, and I heard, "MAMA!"
I turned and saw Paige… well, Grace. I started crying, and she ran to me, and I scooped her up into my arms and I swung her around and said, "I'm so sorry, Grace."
"It's alright, Mama," Grace said and kissed my cheek. I smiled at her and said, "I love you, Grace."
"I love you too, Mama," Grace said with a smile. I put her down as I grabbed my purse and jacket, and she grabbed my hand as we went to her classroom to grab her stuff. She grabbed her stuff and then quickly took my hand again.
We walked out of the school hand in hand and she started talking rapidly. I just smiled at her. But as we walked I felt people's eyes on me. I swallowed it down and continued with the smile that was now fake. I couldn't have these flashbacks with Grace right here. Not now.
I slashed apart the card and they just kept coming-
I shook my head out of the flashback and soon we made it to my house. Grace's "parents" smiled at me and I said, "Thank you for taking care of her."
"None of us knew any different, dear."
I hugged them and Grace and I went down the street to my house. I opened the door for her, and Chester practically pounced on us. He gave me a look like, you remember?
I smiled and said, "Yes, Cheshire."
He grinned that cat grin and I rolled my eyes. I went to make tea as Grace spread out her homework on the floor of the living room.
"Time for bed," I told Grace as I stood in the doorway to the living room from the kitchen. She frowned and said, "But Mama-"
"No but's," I said with a smile, "I let you stay up 'til ten thirty. That's later than I ever let you sleep."
"Alright," Grace said with a pout. I smiled and picked her up and said, "Come on, I'll read you a story."
She smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck. I dropped her on the bed, and placed a box of story books on the bed and said, "Choose one."
Grace picked one out, and held it up to me. Snow White. I smiled and said, "For Mrs. Blanchard- I mean Queen Snow?"
Grace giggled at my slip-up. I smiled and said, "Change and I'll read it."
She quickly changed into her pink pajamas and hopped into the bed next to me where I was propped up. She curled up under my arm and said, "Once Upon A Time…"
"GO!" Jefferson yelled at me. I grabbed onto him and said, "Jefferson-"
"-Go," He said and kissed me. He ran to the other end and I looked back at the castle doors. I opened them slowly, and was met with wall after wall of card guards. I gulped and backed up.
"You can't escape that easily," The queen's "speaker" told me.
I glared at him and said, "I didn't think it would."
"Kill her!" The queen yelled. Wow, didn't think her voice would sound like that.
The cards marched forwards and I saw a pair of machetes in a suit of armor. I grabbed them, and the cards attacked.
I cut left and right, through the sides, from the bottom to the top, straight through them. They just kept coming and coming.
"-MAMA!" I shot up and Grace was staring at me worriedly. I brought her into my arms and she hugged me tightly and I said, "I'm sorry, Grace. I'm so so so so sorry."
She fell asleep on me that way. But I didn't go back to sleep.
The reality didn't hit me until a couple days later when Grace said, "Mama, where's Papa?"
I smiled at her sadly and said, "I don't know, Gracie."
She sighed and said, "Maybe he got out."
Grace didn't know about the hat or Wonderland. All she knew was that Jefferson was trapped somewhere. I felt a sting in my chest when I thought about my husband. I missed him so much.
I shrugged and said, "I don't know."
She ran over and hugged me and I said, "I have to skip work today because I have a meeting with the Principal today. So I won't be in like a lot of other teachers. You just take the bus today, okay?"
Grace nodded and we both grabbed our stuff and I held the backseat door open for her as she got in. I shut the door when she was in, and I got in the front seat and started the drive to the school. Grace talked the whole way there as I drove. I smiled back at her whenever she wasn't looking. I didn't realize how much I had missed her. Well, I guess it didn't matter because I didn't remember her.
Guilt welled up inside of me at that and I clenched the steering wheel tightly. I couldn't remember my own daughter. I pulled into the car rider lane, and Grace leaned up and kissed me and I said, "Just go to the house, okay?"
She nodded and said, "I love you, Mama!"
I smiled at her and said, "I love you too, Grace."
She grinned at me and shut the door running into the school with her friends. I sighed as I pulled away from the school and drove to where we were having the meeting.
Grace/Paige POV
I got off the bus and was headed towards Mama's house when I heard, "Grace!"
I turned and saw Papa. I grinned and ran towards him yelling, "PAPA!"
I hugged him tightly and said, "You found me! I knew you would!"
He hugged me tighter but I pulled away and said, "But you have to see Mama and help her! She keeps having nightmares and she's spacing out a lot. I'm worried about her."
"Where is she?" Papa asked. I sighed and said, "Some meeting with the Principal and other teachers. She told me to go back to the house after school. I was heading there."
"Then we should still go there. We don't want to disobey your mother," He said with a chuckle. I smiled and said, "Yeah, I remember that time too."
Papa winced and said, "Yeah, let's just get there and try not to remember that."
I giggled and he picked me up and we headed home.
3rd POV
Alice sighed as she got out of her car. She just wanted a nice night with her daughter and a cup of warm tee with no nightmares. Sadly only three out of four would happen. Alice had been having nightmares of her time at Wonderland. How she met Jefferson (that wasn't the nightmare parts but still) and Jefferson went missing.
Alice unlocked the front door and walked in kicking her shoes off, placing her keys on the table beside the door and making her way into the kitchen. She placed her stuff on the counter and yelled, "GRACE, I'M HOME!"
"MAMA!" She heard Grace yell and the trampling of feet. Grace ran into the kitchen and Alice picked her up and hugged her tightly.
"How was school? You see Henry?" Alice asked with a wink. Grace blushed and said, "Don't talk about him."
Alice smiled and said, "I'm sorry. Anyways, how was the music class?"
"Boring without you," Grace said simply. Alice giggled and said, "I'm sorry. Was the teacher any good?"
"She just put on a movie," Grace shrugged. Alice shrugged and said, "Well think of it this way, you got to watch a movie."
Grace nodded and said, "I'll be back!"
She then ran out of the room, and Alice watched her daughter with a raised eyebrow. After a second she stood up and started making tea.
With Grace
"Come on, you have to see her sometime." Grace said with a huff as she tried pushing Jefferson out of her and Alice's room. Jefferson was putting up a good fight. Cheshire was watching from the bed with his famous grin in place.
"I'm too nervous," Jefferson said quietly so Alice wouldn't hear them. Grace crossed her arms and said, "You promised you would help her."
"I am," Jefferson promised, "Tomorrow."
Grace sighed and said, "Fine. I have to find a way to sneak you out, thou-"
"-GRACE, TIME TO EAT! What's taking you so long?" Alice asked as she headed into the back of the house towards the bedroom. Jefferson and Grace's eyes widened. Grace shoved him into the closet and said, "Nothing, Mama! I'll be there in a second!"
Grace grabbed Cheshire and ran out of the room quickly. Alice watched with amusement as Cheshire got comfy on Grace. She then wrapped an arm around her daughter and walked with her into the kitchen.
The Next Day
Jefferson was nervous. Very nervous. He was standing outside Alice's classroom as it was lunch break and she was catching up on work she needed to get done.
Alice was sitting at her desk, grading papers. She promised herself she would sleep during lunch break since she didn't sleep at all last night. Obviously, that's not happening.
There was a knock on the door, and Alice didn't look up as she said, "Come in!"
"Alice," She heard. She looked up at was met with a familiar face.
"Jefferson," Alice said standing up.
"I know, I was an idiot. I should've stayed home with you and Grace-"
He was cut off by Alice kissing him. He wrapped his arms around his wife and as they pulled away he said, "What was that for?"
"I missed you. I forgot you, our daughter, and once I get you back I can't kiss you-" Realization dawned on Alice, "Have you found someone else then?"
"No, definitely not. You have my heart," Jefferson said, "Well you and Grace."
"Good," Alice said and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back and said, "I'll meet you and Grace outside after the school day ends so I can show you my house."
"Alright," Alice said as the bell rang. As Jefferson was walking out the door Alice smiled and said, "Oh and Jefferson?"
He turned and she said, "I love you."
"I love you too," He smiled at her.
"And don't forget to lock the front door as you leave," Alice smirked. Jefferson sighed and said, "I should've known you knew that I was there."
"You've never been able to hide from me," Alice said with a wink.
"Never," Jefferson agreed.
