Chapter 2: Tag Team Trial part 1

"Finally!" I cheered, stretching. I had returned Kuribon and Baby Dragon back to their cards.

No need to give anyone a heart attack...

I heard someone chuckle. "You never did like being in a aircraft of any kind for too long."

I turned to see Zane coming up to me.

"Zaney!" I ran up to him and wrapped my arms around his neck as he spun me around. "I missed you!"

"I missed you too Kai." He said putting me down. "You ready to go see the duel? Or do you want to deal with your stuff first?"

I pulled away from him and grinned. "Just grab my bags and lead the way to to the Slifer Red dorm."

"Somehow I knew you were going to say that…"

I adjusted my black with red stars messenger bag as Zane grabbed my blue and white suitcases. He started walking away and I followed him.

"So is someone going to meet us at the dorm?" I asked walking next to him.

"Professor Banner is the headmaster for the Slifers. I'm assuming that he was already informed of your arrival." Zane glanced at me. "The school does know that you're coming right?"

"Well…" I looked away sheepishly.

"Kaida…"

I rolled my eyes. "Oh relax. Can't you take a joke? Daddy made sure they were informed of my arrival. Like I said before, only you, and Chancellor Sheppard know my real surname. I was told that of all the teachers, just think that I'm a new transfer student that wasn't able to come earlier because of a few family problems." I told him.

"That's one problem solved. What of the other?" He asked.

"My psychic powers? All of the faculty have been informed and will hopefully be careful to not get me to excited. Let's hope that the students don't give me a hard time ether. Sure I've got better control now then I did when we were younger but that doesn't mean that I've got complete control."

"Good. I don't think the school would appreciate flying students or dragon monsters terrorizing the student body." He said half joking.

"Hey that was one time!" I yelled. "And did you just make a joke?"

He said nothing as he walked over to a small little yellow outhouse like building with a red roof and a deck to the second floor.

I blinked at the the building.

Please tell me that isn't what I think it is…

"What is this?" I asked.

"The Slifer Dorm." Zane replied.

"That's what I was afraid of…" I sighed before perking up. "Well at least the place has got a killer view!"

I heard someone chuckle. "You sound like one of my other students."

I turned to see a tall, skinny, man with long dark hair tied back in a ponytail and glasses walking towards us. He was wearing a white shirt, black pants, belt necktie, dark brown shoes, and holding a brown and black striped cat.

"Hello, you must be Kaida. I am Lyman Banner and I am the headmaster of the Slifer Dorm as well as a Professor of Duel Academy. It is nice to meet you." He said in a light German accent. The cat meowed at him. "And this is Pharaoh."

"Hi Professor. I'm Kaida…Yuki." I said, shaking his hand.

Hey my brother is using the name I might as well use it too.

"Oh? Any relation to Jaden Yuki?"

I smiled. "He's my older brother. Is that who I remind you of?"

"Yes. Anyway let's get you settled in so you could see your brother's duel." He said.

"'Kay!"

"Wow! This place is amazing!" I awed at the duel arena.

"I'm a bit surprised that you're impressed by something like this." Zane said.

After setting my stuff down in my new dorm room, Banner, Zane and I headed to the expulsion duel. Banner had left us at the entrance to sit with the Chancellor and Crowler while I was with Zane at the railings.

"Shut up." I told him. "The duel's about to start."

"Attention! The Disciplinary Duel is about to begin! Remember, these are test conditions! This is a sudden expulsion match!" Someone said over the loud speaker.

"A little harsh don't you think?" I asked.

"Perhaps but they did break the rules. Not to mention Dr. Crowler was the one who set it up." Zane said.

"Send in the accused: Syrus Trusedale and Jaden Yuki!"

Two Slifer Reds walked on to the stage. One had blue hair (of a lighter tint than Zane's) sectioned in three layers, grey eyes and a pair of round-lensed glasses.

"That your bother?" I asked, looking at Zane.

He nodded.

The other boy has brown hair like me with a patch of orange on the top and brown eyes.

"So this is where you've been big brother…" I mumbled.

Both boys were wearing the Slifer uniforms but my brother wore his jacket like I did. Unbuttoned with a black shirt underneath but I wore a tank top.

"Wow, the acoustics in here are great." Jaden noted.

It's thanks to those acoustics that I could hear them all the way up here.

"Yeah, you think maybe they count your echo as your tag partner?" Syrus wondered out loud.

Jaden ruffled Syrus' hair. "For the last time, you're my partner." He said before he started towards the dueling field.

"It doesn't hurt to ask, though." Syrus said with a nervous laugh before he followed.

As Jaden and Syrus stood on the field, I could see them smile when they saw someone coming into the arena. "Hey look, Chumley showed up." Jaden spoke waving to someone.

I looked over to see a heavy weighted Slifer wearing the white uniform. He looked kinda like a koala. Maybe that's why I see a Des Koala duel spirit standing next to him.

"Yeah, just barely." Syrus mumbled.

"Who's that boy?" I asked still looking at him.

"That's Chumley Huffington. From what I know, he's their roommate." Zane said.

"And I thought running…was supposed to be healthy…" I heard Chumley say, trying to catch his breath as she leaned on the railing.

I glanced back at Zane to see him with his arms folded as he looked down at the two boys. "Well little bro, time to see if you belong here or the next plane out of here."

I kept my gaze on him for a second before looking back at the stage.

I could see Syrus' eyes widen when he looked over at us. Guess he wasn't expecting big brother was gonna be here to watch.

I looked over the stage to see Crowler was already standing in the center of the dueling field with Jaden and Syrus behind him. No doubt ready to see who they were going to be facing. "And now, without further ado, allow me to introduce our special guest duelists…."

Two men flipped onto the stage. They were both bald in Chinese robes, one wearing orange and the other was green. They had strange marking on their foreheads as well. The crowd watched astonished as they flipped over the boys and landed behind them.

"What is this?" The boys asked.

"It's about time you show up…" I said leading my forearms on the railing.

"That's them?" Zane asked.

I nodded. "Yep."

"The Paradox Brothers!"

"Salutation, you fools." The orange one, Para, greeted.

"Hope you're ready to duel." The green one, Dox, added.

"By the end of this Duel, I'm gonna have a huge headache." I groaned. "I hate rhymes."

"Uh, I never heard of these guys." Jaden said.

I face-palmed.

Uncle Joey only told us all about his and Yugi's duel with the Paradox brother only a thousand times!

How does he not remember?!

"Me nether. Maybe this tag-duel won't be so bad." Syrus said, trying to be optimistic.

"Perhaps. After all they haven't duel in ages," Crowler introduced. "And the last opponent was a child. I believe he went by the name of Yūgi something…"

"The king of games?" Syrus gasped.

"Knew that." I said.

"Not everyone could be related to Duel legends."

"Zip it Zaney."

"Enough of the pleasantries…" Para said.

"Now on with the duel…" Dox added.

"We didn't come her to talk…"

"We came…"

"To destroy you!" The finished together.

"Crowler?" I heard Sheppard call from the sidelines. "Don't you think this is a bit much?"

"Not at all; Jaden and Syrus broke a big time rule so they should duel big time opponents." Crowler argued. "Besides, we can't send the brothers back now since they've come so far."

"Oh what does it matter? You're the one paying the two men their travel costs." Sheppard pointed out which made Crowler's eyes bug out. "Jaden, I leave the choice up to you, son."

"Think he'll accept?"

"If I know my brother as well as I think I do, then yes he will."

"These guys can't even beat male pattern baldness so there's no way they'll beat us." My brother said with a grin.

Sheppard grinned as well while Crowler rolled his eyes. "Oh how wonderfully clever." The doctor mumbled as he walked back over to the middle of the field with a microphone in hand. "Duelists prepare to battle!"

Both teams took a side of the field. Jaden looked over to Syrus I guess to see how he was doing and I could tell from up her that the bluenette looked totally tense.

"Breath Syrus," Jaden said as he gave a thumbs up. "We can do this."

The boy just gave a nervous sheepish grin as a repay.

"The rules of this duel are quiet simple. Each team will start with 8000 life points. There will be no sharing strategies, no sharing of advice, and no sharing of cards that aren't already on the field. You can, however, use cards on your partner's field. Understand?" Crowler asked after he finished explaining the rules.

"Yeah!" The duelists answered.

"Think our brothers will win?" I asked.

"Perhaps…"

"Want to bet on it?" I grinned.

Zane glanced at me. "How much?" He asked with much reluctance.

"Twenty bucks for every hundred points and ten booster packs at the card shop." I told him. "If they win."

"And if they lose?"

"I won't call you Zaney for three months and I won't pester you about getting a girlfriend."

"Deal." We shook on it and turned back to the duel.

"All right, then duel!" Crowler leaped off the stage.

(Jaden/Syrus: 8000 ; Paradox Brothers: 8000)

"It's time to get your games on." Jaden said as he drew his five cards before looking over at Syrus. They shared a nod before Syrus started the duel.

"Here goes…" He said as he played his first monster. "First, I'm going to summon out Gyroid in attack mode." The blue and white helicopter appeared on the field (Atk: 1000 Def: 1000).

"You must be joking. I am surprise that thing even has an attack mode. This on the other hand…" Para said as he drew and summoned out a giant orange and brown spider (Atk: 2200 Def: 100). "…Jirai Gumo!"

"What, an over grown bug? Thats nothing that my deck can't squash. Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in defense mode." The female grey and ruby hero appeared (Atk: 1200 Def: 800).

"The best defense there is you fool…" Dox, green robe, said as he drew. "…is a good offense! Kaiser Sea Horse attack mode!" A blue and purple sea house looking warrior appeared carrying a yellow spear (Atk: 1700 Def: 1650).

"I choose to play a Spell Card from my hand known as Tribute Doll! To active it, I must sacrifice one monster on our side of the field. It's a good thing my brother is so generous with his."

The brothers shared a nod.

"Farewell Jirai Gumo!" A black vine appeared out of the Tribute Doll card and destroyed the spider. "Now I can summon a level 7 monster this turn and I choose Kazejin!" A green metal machine that only had a pair of arms and had the mark of the Japanese kanji on it appeared in a gust of wind (Atk: 2400 Def: 2200).

"Sacrificing his brother's monster in order to summon an even better one, what is he planing?" My best friend mused. "Think you know?"

"Yeah, and it's not good. From what I remember, their ace monster is Gate Guardian. Kazejin is just one piece of the puzzle." I told him.

"Do you actually think you know anything of this game?"

"You're losers, you're jokes, in other words, you're lame."

"And if they think this is starting to get grueling."

"Wait until I draw and give them a true schooling." Dox finished. "I play Dark Designator. This powerful spell allows me to call out the name of any monster I can think of. And if it's in my brother's deck, it is added immediately to his hand." He then put on a fake thinking look. "Now let me see… Sanga of the Thunder!" He pointed to Para.

Para laughed and drew the card. "What do you know, it is right here, ready to tear them asunder."

"The duel is just starting..." Para announced.

"Yet it is almost done..." Dox said.

They each pointed to the kids. "For your demise has already begun!"

Syrus gasped.

"Don't worry Sy," Jaden muttered. "They're only saying that 'cause it makes for an easy rhyme."

"What do you think Jaden? If we just quit right now, we're have some more time to pack up our staff. So uh…shall we?" Syrus said.

"The only thing here packing is some serious dueling punch. I'm telling you, we'll beat these guys, Sy." Jaden grinned.

"You know what Jaden? You're right!" Syrus drew. "All aboard! I summon Steamroid in attack mode!" A grey and red train appeared on the field.

"And I also play this! Polymerization! Check it out! I'm taking my Gyroid with my Steamroid and fusing them together to create the ultimate engine that could Steam Gyroid!" The train and helicopter fused together and out came a train with helicopter wings on its back (Atk: 2200 Def: 1600). "Now thats locamotion!"

"And that was a lame pun…" I commented.

"See, you guys made a mistake in all that teamwork! When you sacrificed Jirai Gumo, you left your brother completely defenseless! Leaving the door wide up for an attack!"

"Uh Sy…" Jaden said trying to stop him but was too late.

"And now I'm coming in! Steam Gyroid attack Para!"

Para gasped. "An attack?"

"Got that right!"

"That idiot!" I yelled,my hands nearly breaking the railing.

"If you would please brother…" I heard Para say.

Dox nodded. "It would be my pleaser indeed brother. Kazejin defend with squal barricade!"

Kazejin had appeared in front of Para and shot a blast of wind at Steam Gyroid. The Roid monster tried to fight back but it was blown right back onto Syrus' field.

"Our monsters special ability, do you like?" Dox asked

"It reduces the damage to zero, without even a fight." Para continued.

"So I goofed?" Syrus asked.

"That was a major goof." I said. "Poor Syrus."

"Don't be too sympathetic towards him, Kai. He'll never learn if everyone babies him." Zane said.

"Well you don't have to be so hard on him ether Zane." I told him, glaring slightly.

"Forget it Sy. No biggie." My brother said.

"Yeah right." Syrus said sadly.

"Hey I'm serious, pal. Just keep going."

Syrus nodded and drew. "Alrighty then. I play one card face down and end my turn.

"At last a smart move. My draw. I play monster reborn and bring back the frightful Jirai Gumo!" The nasty spider came back to the field. "And I'll also activate another spell card, tribute doll."

"Not again." Syrus said.

"Yes again and again I will use it to sacrifice Jirai so that I can summon yet another level 7 monster, Suijin." The blue monster appeared on the field Attack mode (Atk: 2500/Def: 2400).

"This is not good…" I mummbled. "Now they've got two of the three monsters needed. And since Para's got the last piece, all he needs to do is sacrifice Dox' Kaiser Sea Horse then he can summon Sanga. "

"And I am not done yet." Para turned to Dox. "Mind if I borrow a monster brother?"

"Please. That's why he's there." Dox told him.

"I sacrifice Kaiser Sea Horse…"

"In case you did not know." Dox said. When you are summoning a Light Attribute monster, Kaiser Sea Horse' sacrifice counts as two instead of one. Which means I am now able to summon Sanga of the Thunder." The red monster appeared on the field ( Atk: 2600/Def: 2200).

'Not good…' I thought. 'Come on Jay. I know you've got a way to turn this around.'

"Think they'll summon it?" Zane asked.

"I know they will." I told him. "It's their ace monster. There would be no point in gathering the pieces but not finishing the puzzle."

"Three monsters on our side, what could be better?

"I know what brother, when they come together."

"Prepare yourself! I sacrifice Suijun, Kazejin, and Sanga of the Thunder so that I can summon the ultimate monster: Gate Guardian!" The three glowed and stacked one on top of the other (Atk: 3750/Def: 3400).

"There it is... Gate Guardian. The same one Uncle Joey and Yugi defeated at Duelist Kingdom." I said. "I wonder how they'll get out of this mess."

"Gate Guardian?" Syrus asked.

"He's ginormous!" Jaden said.

"Just wait and see his attack! Go destroy Steam Gyroid!" Para said. "Tidal Serge attack!"

Gate Guardian let out a hydro-electric blast and destroyed Steam Gyroid.

"Those jerks! This is no longer a duel, it's become target practice with Syrus as said target." I said.

"Let's see if they can stop that thing." Zane said.

I glanced at him and saw some worry in his eyes.

Worry directed at the younger Truesdale.

I smiled. 'There's the Zaney I know and love.'

(Jaden/Syrus 8000 → 6450).

"I know it hurts…"

"And the bad news is that it only gets worse.

"If it gets as bad as this rhyming the we'll be in serious trouble." Syrus said.

"Well the bigger they are the harder they fall. Lets take this thing down." Jaden said.

"I can't wait to see you try so I will end my turn with a face down card." A card materialized in front of Para.

"Then it's time to go to work. Here goes!" Jaden drew a card. "Sweet! Alright you're getting called out big guy. First I'm gonna summon Elemental Hero Clayman!" A familiar brown hero appeared at on the field (Atk: 800/Def: 2000).

And now I play Polymerization! Now I'll fuse Clayman and Burstinatrix to create the Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster!" A female monster with a blaster for a hand and a red shield in the other. (Atk: 2000/Def: 2500). "She's bad!"

(A/N: look I know that for some reason the anime refers to Rampart Blaster as a he but its obvious that the hero is a woman. So from now on Rampart Blaster will be referred to as "she")

"Yeah she's bad, but not as bad as that Gate Guardian. She only has 2500 defense points." Syrus said. "That Guardian's attack points are 3750. Blaster is gonna get blasted."

"Don't sweat it. That's what her special ability's for Sy. See when she's in defense mode, the Rampart Blaster can attack an opponent directly."

"Our life points!" The brothers shouted.

"Now go Rampart Blaster! Blast them with Rampart barrage." The female hero sent out a couple of blasters at the brothers.

"Sure it's only half the points you'd normally lose but hey it's a special effect. What are you gonna do?"

(Paradox Brothers: 8000 → 7000)

"A lucky move…" Dox growled.

"Alright! We're back in this thing!" Syrus said.

"Sy, we were never out of it!" Jaden said.

"Now how long will they stay in it I wonder…" I mused.

"It's my draw now." Dox said, drawing."I'm activating the equip spell card, Fairy Meteor Crush and I'm equipping it to the Gate Guardian. Now where the Guardian attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference between his attack points and your monster's defense points are dealt straight to your life points!"

"Not so fast! You forgot that I have a face down card out! I'm activating Mystical Space Typhoon!" Syrus said, reveling his face down. "It destroys one spell or trap card and I'm going to chose the one you just played! Fairy Meteor Crush!"

"Think it'll connect?" I asked.

"If they're as good as they say, then they'll have a trap ready." Zane said.

"You have fallen right into my trap!" Para said. "I activate Judgment of Anubis! Foolish boy, this lets me stop your little spell card simply by discarding one card. Your typhoon has just been downgraded to a cool summer breeze. Observe."

Syrus' spell card was then dissolved into nothing once Para sent a card to the graveyard. "But wait, that's not all it does. Anubis also destroys one of your creatures."

"And then it's attack points are dealt back to you. Pretty cool special feature." Dox added.

(Jaden/Syrus 6450 - 4450)

Para smirked as Dox began his turn. "I know it feels like we have your backs to the wall but in fact the wall's right in front of you. I play this to end my turn."

A grey stone wall with arms, legs and a face appeared on the field in defense mode. (Atk: 0/ Def: 2100)

"It's called Defense Wall. And as long as its on the field in defense mode all the monsters you have can only attack him!"

"They've got a powerful offense and an effective defense." I commented. "What will you to get out of it Jaden?"

"It's your turn, what are you waiting for?" Dox asked.

"To be honest. A miracle." Syrus said, drawing. He looks down at his card nervously before playing it. "I summon Cycroid in uh defense mode."

A orange bike with a single eye and hands appeared on the field. (Atk: 800/Def: 1000)

"You summon a bike? Ha! Well it's in for a major flat." Para said drawing. "Gate Guardian Tidal Serge Attack!"

The monster let out another hydro-electric blast at Cycroid. The bike braced itself befor being destroyed.

"And don't forget the effects of the Fairy Meteor Crush I have him equipped with."

Gate Guardian let loose yet another attack that hit Syrus.

"The difference between my attack points and your defense points you take as damage."

(Jaden/Syrus 4450 - 1700)

"Your life points are falling." Para said.

"Your game play's appalling." Dox added.

"There is nothing to be done except give up and start falling." They said laughing.

Syrus was kneeling and Jaden's bangs covered his face as his head was down.

"Come on Jay. Don't give up." I cheered quietly.

"Attention Jaden Yuki. It is your turn. You must make a move or you will be disqualified." The announcer said.

To be continued…

That took forever.

I never thought I'd hate the Paradox brothers as much as I did typing this.

Okay so once again I have changed some things but not a lot.

I'm gonna try and get chapter 3 up tomorrow,

Please bare with me!
