I get up due to the smell of toast. Oh, good good good...BURNT TOAST!?

I get up out of my bed, letting the cold air brush up against my bare legs . I make my way downstairs, almost tripping over James leather jacket.

"WHAT'S HAPPENING!?" I yell to myself, once I got downstairs

"Oh...good morning" Rose says from the couch, surprised to see me

"w-w-w-w-w-...huh!?" I don't get it. Rose is calmly sitting on the couch just looking out the window.

"What?" She asks

"I smelt, burnt toast?" I ask questioning her look. In fact I still smell toast

"Oh, yeah...I am cooking some." Rose says pointing to the oven. I quickly ran over to the stove, stabbing my toe on a kitchen chair, and opened the stove. As soon as I opened the stove a puff of black smoke came my way. I saw two pieces of toast in the stove, just sitting there.

"Rose!? What were you doing!?" I say while turning off the stove and waiting for the puff of smoke decrease

"I am cooking toast"

"Why didn't you just ask me?" Seriously! She could of burnt the house down

"Because you were sleeping and I didn't want to wake you up" She said letting her voice go higher and higher

"Since when did you care about waking me up?" She just shrugged

I finally took the two pieces of burnt toast out of the oven. "OW!" Maybe, I should have worn mittens

"Are you okay?" Rose said coming to were I was and taking my hand. She then kissed it

"All better?" She asked

"Yeah, thank you" I said. Even those Rose does seem careless at time, she really does care for anyone and everyone

"R-Rose?" I asked

"Yeah"

"Why, why did you put toast in the oven?" I said pointing to the oven "Toast is suppose to go in the toaster" My finger switched from the oven to the toaster and so Rose's eyes did to.

"Really?" She asked in total shock

"Yeah, that's why it's called a toast-ER"

"Um...anyways I need to get to school!" Oh, SHE WAS RIGHT! It was 5:30! Her bus comes at 5:34!

"Let's goooooo!" I said going to the living room "Sheesh Rose, were you even going to wake me up?" I say as I lace up my shoes. I am going to have to go out in the freezing cold, in SHORTS! A NIGHTMARE! "Come on! We will have to run" I cried

"Nooooooooooooooooo...okay" Rose hates running just as much as I do, so this will be fun...NOT!

Jared's POV

"WHAT'S HAPPENIND, WHERE AM I?...WHAT AM I!"

"Calm down, it's going to be alright" Someone says inside my head

"OH NO! I'M GOING CRAZY!"

"NO YOUR NOT, JUST CALM DOWN" Right then, I saw a giant black wolf creep out of the shadows.

"Calm down" He said. This time his voice sounded more commanding. I couldn't help but bow my head down as he came closer and closer, but at the same time as he was coming closer, I took a steps backwards, slowly "Stay Still" Immediately I couldn't move anymore. It was like my legs were numb. THAT...THING PUT A SPELL ON ME!

"That thing is the same thing you are, and lucky for you, we can't do spells" All this that was happening was not believable. I was hearing, that black bears voice in my head? NOT POSSIBLE!

"We are not a bear, we are shape shifters"

Shape shifters?

"Yes, or as some people call us, wolves"

"So what's the difference?" I was now interested in what this be-...shape shifter was has to say, or think.

"We have the ability to change forms, from a man to a wolf or vise versa, any time of day"

"COOL!"

"NO , not 'cool', this also means that as a human your abilities will be doubled, so you have to be extra careful around humans."

"Wait...so you mean, I will be better at school and get better grades" I asked hopefully

"Not like that, I mean strength and speed. Haven't you been feeling a little, angry lately?"

"Ohhhhhhhh, so that means I have to be careful around humans?"

"Yes" Like I said, he mentally thought

"S-so, anything else" If this is true, I hope nothing from the legends are actually true

"Actually, everything from the legends are true"

"WHAT? So you mean, the cold ones? Being protectors? Patrolling?" This guy nodded to everything I said

"You forgot something"

"What?"

"Yes, yes, yes"

"But, But I don't want to be forced to love someone, where's the fun in that?"

"Sorry, I can't control it."

"Huh...anything else?" I asked. Now I was pretty much mad

"Ummmmmm...To protect them, you can't hang out with you friends anymore"

"...WHAT!? So your saying, I have to give up my friends, and my reward is to stay out all night and watch for filthy bloodsuckers?"

"You have to protect them, and our secret"

"So who can I hang out with?!"

"Only others members who are going to join the pack. Right now it's just me and you, Oh and a few special people like imprints and counsel members, they can know our secret to"

"So there is going to be more of...Us?" I said hoping there wouldn't

"Yes, Paul is going to be the next to phase next"

"At least I won't be alone...and by the way, you haven't told me your name yet, do you go to La push high school?"

"Sam, Sam Uley, and no, I don't go to your school"

" Sam, oh! You know you have a bad rep around here, I mean dumping your girlfriend just so you could go after her cous?"

"I LOVE her!"

"Oh...so did you, you know..." I said hoping he would know where I was heading with that

"Yes"

"Then I don't want to imprint! To much drama"

"You really don't have a choice, it just happens"

"Yeah man, but on her cousin?" Sam didn't answer, instead he just nodded

"Is that what the 'bear' marks are from, you did that to her"

Sam growled at me and I can see him mentally rip my head off

"Calm down, sorry!"

He accepted my apology, but that didn't stop the urge that he still had to rip my head off

"Can you turn back" Sam said after I gave him some time to calm down

"Back where"

Seriously? Is this kid that stupid?

Sam mentally thought

"No, you just said to turn back, where?"

"Can you PHASE back"

Phase?

"CAN YOU TURNNNNNNN, BACK INTO A HUMAN?" Sam said obviously aggravated

"Sheesh! You don't yell" This earned an eye roll from Sam

"Just do it"

"BOY! We have a lot of work to do!" Sam said

"I can't really help it" He said squinting his wolfy eyes
