Chapter 2: The First Duel! Korra vs. Korra!

Korra opened her eyes and saw that she was back in the same world when she first picked up Stardust's card. "What is this place?" She asked the dragon.

"This is a special plain, separating the human world from that of the spirits." Stardust explained. "In this plain, time slows in both worlds. What would seem like hours had passed in this world, only a few seconds would pass in yours. As you can see, each of these stars contains a world. There are some that are similar to yours while other are different."

"Wait!" Korra exclaimed. "You mean that there are other worlds beyond the spirit world."

"Millions in fact." The dragon answered. "But I'll save the tour for another time. For now, this will be the place where I'll teach you how to play Duel Monsters."

"Alright!" Korra shouted. "So how do we start?"

"With this…" Then a small book appeared in front of the avatar. "This is a rulebook, explaining the different rules and how the game is played. I'll need you to read it before we begin."

"Are you serious?!" Korra asked. "I thought you were going to teach me!"

"I am. But I prefer that you know how the game works instead of throwing you in head-first. Or would you rather start without knowing what to do?"

Korra sighed in defeat and took the book. After a few minutes, she read through the book, learning the rules, the different types of cards and how they are used. "Ok, I think I'm ready." She said as the book disappeared. "Ok, now how do we start?"

"First, activate your duel disk." Stardust said, causing Korra to look at him confused. "The device on your left arm…"

Korra looked down at her arm and saw that the device was still there. She pushed a button on the thing and it lit up with the number 4000 appearing on it. "Ok, now what?"

"You're going to duel her." Then a pillar of light appeared in front of the avatar, causing her to cover her eyes. When the light died down Korra saw a person looking just like here, but there are some differences. Her copy was wearing a crimson water tribe shirt with black pants and her hair was snow white.

"What is that?" Korra asked in shock.

"Let's say it's one of the perks that comes with this place." Stardust answered. "I can create a duplicate of anyone, however with a different color. Think for it as you've fighting against yourself." Then the dragon looked over at the clone. "Now prepare yourself, Avatar. This test is going to push you to your limit. Think "

"I'm always ready." Korra said with a smirk. "Don't forget that I'm your partner now. You have to deal with it."

"You have to deal with it." F. Korra repeated with a more robotic tone in her voice.

Korra looked at her copy with a weird look on her face. "Okay, now that's creepy."

"Let's duel!" The two Korra shouted as they drew five cards from their respective decks.

Korra: 4000 LP

F. Korra: 4000 LP

"I'll start." F. Korra said as she draws a card. She looked at the cards in her hand and placed one on her duel disk. "And I'll start by summoning Apple Magician Girl in attack mode." A light appeared in front of her and revealed a young woman with violet eyes, tan skin, and black hair, wearing a red corset, a short skirt, a witch's hat and pink wings on her back.

Apple Magician Girl: LV 3 (ATK: 1200/ DEF: 800)

"Woah, this is amazing." Korra said in awe, looking at the monster.

"Korra!" Stardust shouted, getting the avatar's attention. "You can't be distracted by seeing a monster summoned like that."

"Hey, it's my first time playing this!" The avatar retorted. "How did you expect me to react?!"

"Try not to get distracted again. You need to stay focus in a duel, no matter what." The dragon scolded, making Korra grumble.

"I now place one card face down and end my turn." F. Korra said as her turn comes to an end.

"Ok, her turn has ended." Stardust said. "Ready to show her what you can do?"

"Yeah!" Korra said as she draws a card. Like her clone, she placed one on her duel disk. "I'll start off by summoning Speed Warrior in Attack Mode." A light appeared in front of the avatar, revealing a monster in grey armor with a nozzle connected to the chest and the mask, googles over its eyes, and roller blades under its shoes.

Speed Warrior: LV 2 (ATK: 900/DEF: 400)

"Now Speed Warrior take out her Magician Girl!" Korra declared as her monster charged toward her clone's. "And on the turn that Speed Warrior is summoned, his attack points are doubled during the battle phase. Go, Hyper Sonic Slash!" Speed Warrior's speed started to increased as it started to do a 720 spin.

Speed Warrior: ATK: 900 – 1800

As Speed Warrior got close to Apple Magician Girl, it threw a kick at her but it was blocked by an apple shaped ball of energy. "What the…" Korra exclaimed in shock.

"You activated Apple Magician Girl's special ability." F. Korra said. "When she's the target of an attack, I can special summon a level 5 or lower Magician Girl from my hand and it'll be your new target. And I choose Chocolate Magician Girl." Apple Magician Girl threw the ball of energy in the air as it dispersed and revealed a young woman with tan skin, red eyes, and long light blue hair, wearing a dark blue chest armor, a short miniskirt, a dark blue magician's hat with a red heart on it, and bat wing on her back.

Chocolate Magician Girl: LV 4 (ATK: 1600/DEF: 1000)

"That's fine, Speed Warrior's attack points are still higher." Korra said as her monster's attack turned towards the new magician girl.

"That's where you're wrong. Because not only does Speed Warrior have to attack Chocolate Magician Girl but its attack points are cut in half. Or in your case, return it to normal."

Speed Warrior: ATK 1800 – 900

Korra's eyes widen as her monster's attack missed the magician girl. Then Chocolate Magician Girl pointed her staff at Speed Warrior and fired a magical blast at it, causing it to explode.

Korra: 4000 – 3300LP

"Hmm, it looked like your clone was one step ahead of you that time." Stardust said. "And here I thought that you had something going there."

"Hey, I told you this is my time playing this game!" Korra shouted at the dragon. "So how was I supposed to know?!"

"Just end your turn."

"Ok fine…" Korra said, looking back at her hand. "I place two cards face down and end my turn."

"My turn…" F. Korra said, drawing her card. "And I'll start by sacrificing both of my Magician Girls in order to summon Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight." The two Spellcasters turned into two balls of energy as they into a ring of fire. Out of that ring was a knight wearing red armor with two javelins riding a dragon. Korra looked in awe as the dragon took flight and let out a loud roar.

Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight: LV 7 (ATK: 2300/DEF: 2100)

"Now Lord Gaia, attack her life points directly!" The dragon let out a stream of fire toward the Avatar.

"I activate one of my face-downs, Scrap Iron Scarecrow!" Korra shouted as a scarecrow made of scrap appeared in front of her and blocked the dragon's attack. "This trap lets me stop one of your attack and it goes back face-down for another turn." The scarecrow returned to its card as it went back the face down position.

"Then I'll end my turn."

"Alright, here's goes something." Korra said as she drew her card. "I'll start by activating the spell, Cards of Consonance. This allows me to discard one dragon tuner with 1000 or less attack points from my hand so I can draw two new cards." She sends Debris Dragon to her graveyard and drew two cards from her deck. "Next I activate Tuning, which allows to add a Synchron monster from my deck to my hand in exchange of sending the top card from my deck to the graveyard. And the monster I'm choosing is Quickdraw Synchron." Her deck shuffled her cards rapidly and spat out two cards. She added the tuner to her hand and put the other in her graveyard. "Now I discard one card from my hand to special summon Quickdraw Synchron in attack mode." A blue light appeared in front of Korra, revealing a small machine wearing a cowboy hat, a torn red scarf covering his face, and holding a toy gun in his hand.

Quickdraw Synchron: LV 5 (ATK: 700/DEF: 1400)

"Next I activate my other face-down card, Graceful Revival, which allows me bring back a level 2 or below monster from my graveyard. So welcome back, Speed Warrior." A blue light appeared in front of Korra's trap, revealing her revived Speed Warrior. "Now I turn the level 5 Quickdraw Synchron with the level 2 Speed Warrior." Quickdraw Synchron fired a shot from his gun as he turned into 5 rings surrounding Speed Warrior. Speed Warrior changed to two star as a pillar of light erupted from the rings. "I synchro summon Junk Berserker!" Out of the pillar of light came a red and gold machine with a beetle like head with wide sharp teeth, wielding a huge battle axe.

Junk Berserker: LV 7 (ATK: 2700/DEF: 1800)

"Since I just synchro summoned, I can Synchro Magnet from my hand." A small light appeared next the huge synchro monster and revealed a small machine with two small arms and a big red eye.

Synchro Magnet: LV 2 (ATK: 1000/DEF: 600)

"But he won't be alone for long. Since he's a turner, I can summon Quillbolt Hedgehog from my graveyard." Another blue light appeared in front of the avatar as a small hedgehog with brown fur and metal bolts on appeared next to the tuner.

Quillbolt Hedgehog: LV 2 (ATK: 800/DEF: 800)

"Now I tune the level 2 Synchro Magnet with the level 2 Quillbot Hedgehog." Like Quickdraw Synchron did before, Synchro Magnet turned to two green rings surround Quillbot Hedgehog. "I synchro summon Armory Arm!" A light erupted from the green rings, revealing a mechanical arm with a rocket on it.

Armory Arm: LV 4 (ATK: 1800/DEF: 1200)

"Now I'll equip my Armory Arm with my Junk Berserker." The avatar said as her new synchro monster attached itself to Junk Berserker's arm, raising its power.

Junk Berserker: ATK 2700 – 3700

"Now Junk Berserker take her Gaia!" Korra shouted as Junk Berserker charged towards her clone's monster.

"Well my Gaia's effect activates." F. Korra said. "When it battles a monster that was special summoned, like your synchro monster, it gains 700 extra attack points."

Lord Gaia the Fierce Knight: ATK 2300 – 3000

"Then I activate my face down, Dimension Sphinx. If my monster is attacked by a monster with higher attack points, the difference between the two is dealt to you as damage." Korra winched in pain as a red aura covered her body.

Korra: 3300 – 2600LP

"Well that doesn't stop my monster from taking down yours!" Junk Berserker continued its attack as it punched the clone's monster, causing it to explode.

F. Korra: 4000 – 3300LP

"And Armory Arm's effect activates. Whenever a monster equipped to it destroys one of yours, you take damage equal to that monster's attack points." Junk Berserker threw a punch towards F. Korra but a barrier of light appeared in front of her. "What?!" Korra widened her eyes when a small furry creature in front of her clone and disappeared.

"That's the effect of my Clear Kuriboh." F. Korra said as she sends the card to her graveyard. "Whenever I'm about to take damage from a monster's effect, I can negate the damage by discarding it from my hand."

"Fine. I'll end my turn with two more face downs." Korra said as her turn came to an end.

"My turn." F. Korra said as she draw a card, and showed it to the avatar. "And I summon Palladium Oracle Mahad in attack mode." A blue circle appeared in front of the clone and revealed a man wearing gold armor, a white turban, and wielding a gold staff.

Palladium Oracle Mahad: LV 7 (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2100)

"Hold on!" Korra shouted. "She can't a monster that strong just like that, can't she."

"Oh but she can, thanks his special ability." Stardust said, explaining the legal move. "When that monster is drawn, she has to reveal it to you and special summon from her hand."

"I activate the spell, Card of Sanctity." F. Korra said, continuing her turn. "Now both of us must draw until we each have six card in hand." F. Korra drew five new cards from her deck as Korra drew six. "Next I activate Dark Magic Veil. By paying 1000 life points, I can summon a Dark spellcaster from my hand. I choose the Dark Magician Girl." A purple magic circle appeared on the ground and revealed a girl around Korra's age with long blonde hair, green eyes, wearing a blue magician's attire and a short skirt, wielding a blue wand.

F. Korra: 3300 – 2300 LP

Dark Magician Girl: LV 6 (ATK: 2000/DEF: 1700)

"Now I activate Sage's Stone." F. Korra said as a black stone appeared in front of Dark Magician Girl. "With the Dark Magician Girl on the field, I can summon the Dark Magician from my deck." Dark Magician Girl charged up her magic into the stone and it exploded, revealing a man with long blue hair, wearing purple armor, purple magician's hat, and wielding a green staff.

Dark Magician: LV 7 (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2100)

"Also I'll activate the spell, Dark Burning Attack. Since Dark Magician Girl is on my field, all monsters on your side of the field are destroyed." Dark Magician Girl charged up a ball of dark magic and fired it at Junk Berserker, causing it and Armory Arm to explode.

'This isn't good!' Korra thought as sweat started to come down her face.

"Dark Magician, attack the avatar directly!" F. Korra declared as the spellcaster charged up his attack. "Dark Magic Attack!" The spellcaster fired a ball of dark energy at Korra.

"I activate my Scrap-Iron Scarecrow to block your attack." The scarecrow appeared in front of Korra and blocked the monster's attack.

"In that Dark Magician Girl, attack her directly! Dark Burning Attack!" Dark Magician Girl charged up another ball of dark magic and fired at Korra, sending her flying back.

Korra: 2600 – 600LP

"And don't forget about my Mahad! Wipe out the rest of her life points!" The gold spellcaster charged a white ball of energy and aimed it towards Korra.

"I activate the trap card, Draining Shield!" Korra shouted, revealing one of her traps. "Not only does this trap negates your attack, I gain life points equal to your monster's attack points." An orange shield surrounds the avatar and absorbed the attack.

Korra: 600 - 3100LP

"I'll play one card face down and end my turn."

"This might be your last turn, Korra." Stardust said. "What are you going to do now?"

"What do you think?" Korra responded. "I'm going to win." Korra touched the top card of her deck and took a deep breath as she draws. She glanced over at the card she drew and a small smile appeared on her face. "First, I summon Junk Synchron in attack mode." A blue light appeared in front of Korra and out came a small monster with an orange body, a pair of googles, and an engine on his back.

Junk Synchron: LV 3 (ATK: 1300/DEF: 500)

"And since I have a "Junk" monster on my field, I can summon Junk Servant from my hand." Another blue circle appeared in front of Korra and revealed a machine with an alarm on top of its head, a booster as its left shoulder, and a hat with orange spike on the right side of its head.

Junk Servant: LV 4 (ATK: 1500/DEF: 1000)

"Next I activate the spell card, Star Changer. This allows to change the level of one of my monsters by 1, and I choose to raise the level of Junk Synchron."

Junk Synchron: LV 3 – 4

Stardust looked over at the avatar, knowing what she's planning. "Korra, are you're doing what I think you're about to do?"

"Yeah, now I tune my level four Junk Synchron with the level four Junk Servant!" Junk Synchron revved the motor on its back as it dispersed into four rings, surrounding Junk Servant. "The hopes of the universe converge into a single star. That star is a beast of galactic might! I synchro summon Stardust Dragon!" A pillar erupted with the rings as Stardust Dragon appeared in front of Korra, letting out a mighty roar.

Stardust Dragon: LV 8 (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000)

"It feels so good to be back." Stardust said. "Korra, how about we end this duel?"

"Yeah, and now I activate my last face down card, Call of the Haunted." Korra said, revealed her last trap. "This allows to bring back one monster from my graveyard and I choose my Junk Servant." A blue light appeared in front of the trap and revealed a revived Junk Servant. "Next, I activated the spell card, One for One. By sending one monster from my hand to the graveyard, I can summon a level one monster from my deck." She send one card from her hand to the graveyard as her deck shuffles rapidly and spat out a card. "So, I'll discard Doppelwarrior in order to summon Turbo Synchron." Then a small green machine with an engine on its back appeared next to Junk Servant.

Turbo Synchron: LV 1 (ATK: 100/DEF: 500)

"Now I tune my level one Turbo Synchron with the level four Junk Servant." Turbo Synchron dispersed as it surrounds Junk Servant and a pillar of light erupted of the ring. "I synchro summon Accel Synchron."

Accel Synchron: LV 5 (ATK: 500/DEF: 2100)

"Now I'll activate Accel Synchron's special ability." Korra said. "By sending one Synchron from my deck to the graveyard, I can change the level of Accel Synchron. The monster I'm choosing is Drill Synchron." The deck spat out the monster and shuffled itself again as Korra puts it in her graveyard. "And since Drill Synchron was a level three monster, I'm going to lower Accel Synchron by three."

Accel Synchron: LV 5 – 2

"Ready for this, Stardust?" Korra asked, closing her eyes with a grin on her face.

"Whenever you are, partner." Stardust answer with a grin like Korra's.

Korra opened her eyes, showing that they are pure white as she activates her Avatar State. "Now I turn the level two Accel Synchron with the level eight Stardust Dragon." The turner synchro turned into two rings and Stardust flew into them. "Go, Accel Synchro!" Then a pillar of light erupted out of the rings. "I synchro summon Shooting Star Dragon!" Out of the light came a majestic dragon with long wings that look like gliders, jade on parts of its body, and a head almost similar to Stardust.

Shooting Star Dragon: LV 10 (ATK: 3300/DEF: 2500)

'Amazing…' Stardust thought in the new dragon's body. 'To think that she would achieve an accel synchro in her very first duel.' The dragon looked down at Korra. 'I've picked a remarkable partner indeed.'

"Now Shooting Star's effect activates." Korra said. "I'll look at the top cards of my deck. And with every turner I see, Shooting Star Dragon gains an extra attack." Korra looked down at her deck and drew the first card. She looked at the card and saw that it was another Junk Synchron. "That's one…" She drew the next card. It was the spell card, Silver Wing. She drew the next card. It was Effect Veiler. "Two…" She draw the fourth card and it was Unknown Synchron. "Three…" She draws her final card. She looked at the card and saw that it was Hyper Synchron. "That's four!" A white aura appeared around the dragons as three copied appeared around it, in different colors. "Now Shooting Star Dragon, take out her Palladium Oracle Mahad." The blue dragon let out screech as it charged towards the gold magician.

"Not so fast!" F. Korra shouted. "I activate my trap, Magician's Defense. As long as there's a Spellcaster on my side of the field, any battle damage that I would take in halved."

"That doesn't stop my dragon from destroying them." The dragon continued its charge towards the clone's monster. Mahad created a shield from his magic to defend himself. But it did little good as the dragon pierced through the shield and the monster, causing him to explode. The force of the explosion caused F. Korra to shield herself from it.

F. Korra: 2300 – 1900LP

"Next goes your Dark Magician Girl!" The green dragon charged towards the female spellcaster and went through her, causing her to explode as well.

F. Korra: 1900 – 1250LP

"Now your Dark Magician!" The red dragon charged at the final magician. The magician fired a blast of dark magic at the dragon. The dragon dodged the blast and crashed into the magician, causing him to explode.

F. Korra: 1250 – 450LP

"Finally, Shooting Star Dragon will attack you directly." F. Korra looked up at with widen eyes at the original Shooting Star Dragon charging towards her. Then a small smile appeared her face as the dragon crashed into her, sending her flying back.

F. Korra: 450 – 0LP

Korra's eyes returned to normal as her dragon disappeared. "I did it." She said. "I WON!" Before she could celebrate, she felt her world starting to spin as she fell backwards.

"I got you." Stardust said, catching the avatar. "That was reckless going into the Avatar state during the duel." Then a smile appeared on the dragon's face. "But I'm proud of you. I'm glad to be your partner, Avatar." Then the sound of clapping was heard in the area, getting their attention. They looked over where the sound came from and saw F. Korra walking towards them.

"Congratulations, Avatar Korra." F. Korra said, extending her arm to Korra. Korra looked down at her clone's hand for a second and then shook it.

"Thanks." Korra said. "That was actually fun. We should do it again sometime."

"I'll hold you to that. But as now…" F. Korra took her deck out of her duel disk and presented it to Korra. "This belongs to you." Korra looked at her clone with widen eyes.

"I've forgot to mention that this test came with a prize if you win." Stardust said, getting the avatar's attention. "If you defeat your clone, you would win her deck." Korra looked back at her clone who nodded at his statement.

"Ok. Thank you." Korra said, taking the deck as her clone disappeared.

"Congratulations, Korra." Stardust said. "You've complete your first test."

"My first test?" The avatar questioned. "What are you talking about?"

"Your first test was learning how the game is played. The second test…" Korra started to feel a burning sensation on her right arm. She looked at her arm and see that the mark on it was glowing again. "…involves the mark on your arm."

"I've been meaning to ask." She shows the mark to Stardust. "What does this mark mean anyway?"

"It means that you are a signer." The dragon said. "Signers are a group that those that have the ability to summon the Crimson Dragon. The mark on your arm is one of the piece of the dragon. Each piece is engraved into those that fit into the dragon's legend. In this case, you're one of those people, Korra."

"Ok, how does this mark tie into this game?" Korra questioned.

"I think it'll be best to start at the beginning." Stardust said. "You see, this game has a dark history behind it. There are those who want to use duel monsters to destroy the world. One of these forces known as the Earthbound Immortals."

"Earthbound Immortals?" Stardust waved his claw, showing Korra the image of six giant black monsters with different color markings on each of their bodies.

"Monsters from the underworld, hellbent on destroying the world and recreating it in their own sick, twisted image. 5,000 years ago, me and my friends were sent to destroy these monster before they could do any damage." Korra widen her eyes when she Stardust flying towards the monsters along with five other dragons. The avatar watched on as the dragon fought these giants, tooth and nail. The giants appeared to be overpowering them until the dragons started to get the upper hand and fought back. "We've won the battle, sealing these monster back to the underworld where they belong. This is until Harmonic Convergence." Korra's eyes widen again when the dragon said that. "Despite being sealed in the Tree of Time by Avatar Wan, he was sending small pieces of his energy to these monsters to help them break free. When Vaatu was released and fused with Unalaq, the dark energy coming out of the both of them gave the immortals more than power to break out of their prison. Now they're replenishing the energy they've lost in the battle and they're getting stronger by the day." Stardust turned to see his partner looking at her feet. "What's wrong, Korra?"

"This is my fault." Korra said. "Vaatu was freed from the Tree of Time because of me. Now with these Earthbound Immortals on the loose, it looks like I put the world in danger again."

"Nobody is blaming you for anything. You did what you needed to do to save your world. In fact thanks to you, one of their major power source has taken from them by destroying Vaatu. And they'll reeling from that loss." Korra looked down, away from her dragon partner. "Look, I know that this is a lot to take in, Korra. But right now, there is no one I trust other than you. The mark on your arms signifies the bond that you and I now share. Which is why I'm asking you again, would you help me stop them?"

"I gave you my answer, didn't I?" Korra said, looking up at Stardust with the same determined look on her face. "I told you that I'm in. Whether it's my fault that these Earthbound Immortals are out or not, I'm still the Avatar. And I'm going to them sorry that they chose to make my world their new home."

"I'm glad to hear that, Korra." Stardust said. "Now, we can move to your second test. This test could take some time for you to get used to. This is not like the bending mastery test you're used to take. Observe." A spell card appeared in front of the dragon. Stardust crushed the card with his claw and a sword with a long handle and a spike on the end of the hilt appeared in it (Legendary Sword). He swung the sword several times. Korra looked at the sword with widen eyes as it disappeared and returned to the card it was originally in. "This is the power of a psychic duelist."

"Psychic duelist?" Korra questioned.

"Yes, duelist who can materialize their cards to make them appear in real life. I believe you can do this too."

"I can?" Korra looked at her two decks, thinking about how shocked her friends would be when they see some of her monsters.

"Which is why we will start your training now." Stardust waved his claw again, covering the area in a white light. When the light disappeared, the two were surrounded by trees as if they were in a forest with a bright sky above them.

"Where are we?"

"The Spirit World, of course." Stardust answered, making Korra look at him in shock. "However, this isn't the spirit world that you've visit during Harmonic Convergence. This is the spirit world where the duel monster roam. That is the perfecting setting for you to learn your abilities. But I must warn you. Much like how you enter your spirit world through meditation, you can't use bending in this world. You think you can handle it?" Korra looked at the dragon, gave him a nod that she can. "Good luck, Avatar Korra." Then Stardust disappeared, leaving the avatar alone.

Back on Air Temple Island, Jinora was seen in her room holding her right arm in pain as a red light appeared from it. She rolled up her sleeve and saw a mark on it. The mark of the foot.

To be continued…

Updated: 6/25/19

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted a chapter for this story and the part after the duel was originally supposed to the third chapter. But it was so short, I've decided to tack to this chapter. So the next chapter will feature Korra's next duel. I've been busy with the Akame ga Kill vs. Injustice 2 interactions, which returns July 14th. Now on August 31st, I will start posting interactions involving the characters from Akame ga Kill Zero and the roster of Mortal Kombat 11. And now there will be guest characters from other anime and manga series that will join them. There is a poll on my profile to decide some of the guest characters. I can confirm that Alucard from Hellsing will be one of the guest characters. So vote now to see who join him against the MK 11 and Akame ga Kill fighters. The first draft of the poll end on August 10th and new choices will be added every weekend. The top five choices will join Alucard as guest characters. Until then, see ya.
