Author's note: Hey, guys! Here's the second chapter to the story. I feel really productive today and happy that I don't have to study, even though I will have to start again tomorrow. For some reason, I had a bit trouble writing this one, but in the end I think it turned out okay. :) It could be a little bit better, but that's okay. I'm hoping to finish the third one today as well, but I can't promise anything. Hopefully, it will work out somehow. I know this chapter is also short, but I think it should be that way. I have a feeling I would rush the story if I made it longer and I want to avoid that. Let me know what you guys think. :) Apologies for any grammar or spelling mistakes and if the characters are a bit OOC.

It really took them around three hours to get to that cottage in the mountains. Before they walked in, they checked to see if there was someone living there. When they made sure it is deserted, they entered it. When Mika spotted it, it seemed a lot smaller and now that they were inside, he could see that it was much bigger. There were three rooms inside, which was surprising.

"Okay, let's chose the rooms!", Shinoa said excitedly.

'Why is she so exited about choosing the room?', Mika thought.

"Mika!", Shinoa called to him. "Which one do you want and with whom you want to share it?"

Mika just stared at her for a while, before he answered.

"I don't care which one will be mine or with whom I'll share it."

"Okay, then I'll go first!", Shinoa clapped her hands.

"Wait a minute! Why are you the first one to chose? Aren't you going to ask the rest of us?", Mitsuba protested.

"Nope. Mika is our new member, so I wanted to give him advantage to be the one who chose first."

"That's not fair!", Mitsuba yelled.

"Calm down.", Shinoa sighed.

She walked towards the room she wanted and walked in it.

"I chose this one.", she stated.

It was the first room on the left with the best view on the mountains that surrounded the one they were on and in the far, far distance, you could see the feint of the city they came from. Mitsuba was fuming with rage. Not only did Shinoa was the first one to chose, but she choose the best.

"And I'll be sharing my room with you.", Shinoa pointed at the person. "Mitsuba!"

"What? Why me?", Mitsuba looked at her, surprise written all over her face.

"I knew you'll be mad and I can't listen to you complains. I don't know for how long we'll be staying here and I'll get a headache hearing your constant protests. Can't you just be happy and honored I choose you?", she asked, teasingly.

Mitsuba was happy at first, hearing that she'll be able to have the room she wanted, but hearing the next part Shinoa said, made her angry once again.

"The hell I'll feel honored!"

"Do you not want it then?"

"Hm.", Mitsuba walked out of the room.

"I'll take that as a yes. Now you guys chose yours.", she said, pushing them out in the hallway.

"She really did chose the best one.", Yuu said. "Which one do you want guys? I don't care now, since we've lost the best one.", Yuu asked them.

Mika was as silent as always. Even though he wanted to be with Yuu, now he was praying that he won't get to be in the same room as him. His thirst was getting stronger and it'll be dangerous for him. Having you so close to him would only make him remember the taste of his blood and how much he wanted it. Until he satisfied his need for blood, he has to stay away from Yuu.

"I think I want this one.", Yoichi pointed at the room opposite Shinoa's. "And I'll share it with Kimizuki. Is that fine with you?"

"It is.", Kimizuki said.

"Damn it.", Mika whispered so quetly.

He is definitely damned, he thought. Why can't anything go the way he planned.

"What did you say, Mika?", Yoichi asked him.

"If you want this room, it's perfectly fine to have it, I don't really mind."

"No, you guys go ahead. Yuu and I will have this one.", he tried to smile, hoping that it wouldn't look too forced.

Youichi smiled back at him and went to his room, indicating that he didn't notice.

But Yuu did. He could see that something was wrong with his friend, just he couldn't figure out what. He was sure that it is hunger, seeing the way he acted in the forest, he could swear that was it. Mika told him that's not the way it is and Yuu decided to believe him. Then what could be the cause of his strange behavior? For a while, when they were walking to their shelter, his old friend was back and now he is back to his odd self. Just what is it that's going on?

Yoichi and Kimizuki went to their room, and Mika and Yuu did the same. They brought their backpacks inside and put them in the corner of the room. Mika walked to the window and looked outside. It was dark, but he could still see the mountains.

'The view from here is not bad. I don't know why they argued over Shinoa's.'

He was surprised that he actually remembered the girl's name.

"It's so beautiful, right? I wonder if it'll be more beautiful during the day.", Yuu spoke.

Mika didn't pay attention, so he didn't notice when Yuu came to stand next to him.

"You're right. It is beautiful.", he agreed.

He was looking at Yuu from the corner of his eye when he said it. At that moment Yuu glanced at him, see that Mika was watching him. Again, there was that sadness in his eyes, which annoyed him so much. Was Mika not happy to be with them now, with him? He promised him that he will find a way to turn him back to human and he will do everything in his power to do so. Mika hated being a vampire, but he was surprised to find out how much he hated humans as well, considering that he was a human himself to begin with.

"What?"

"Nothing.", Mika smiled softly. "I think you should rest."

As Mika said it, Yuu yawned. "I think you're right."

Yuu walked to his side of the room, well the one he wanted for himself and pulled out sleeping bag he had. Settling inside the sleeping bag, he turned on his side and looked at Mika's back. He didn't move from his place by the window.

"Aren't you going to sleep, too? You said you were tired when we were in the woods."

"I will. I just want to look outside for a bit longer.", Mika said and kept gazing at the distance.

'I wonder what he is thinking about?', Yuu wondered, but not asking was sure that the answer would be 'Nothing', so instead he closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep.

Mika admired the beauty of the night, it looked especially fascinatingly beautiful with all the nature that was around them. He could actually imagine himself staying here forever. Away from vampires, away from humans, away from the war and all the troubles. Yes, that would be wonderful. But that was just wishful thinking, he knew that well and he wasn't going to get his hopes up.

'That is just impossible.'

When Yuu's breathing evened out, Mika knew that he was asleep and that's when he turned around to look at him. Calmed and relaxed expression graced his face.

'I can't relax like that. I have to protect him. I have to be ready, if anything happens.'

What if you doesn't need my help anymore? He had proven that he could take care of himself. He really got stronger. Does that mean that he is not needed anymore? Mika wished that he could only just walk away if he was not needed, but even thought Yuu was strong and capable, he was very impulsive. He was afraid that his impulsiveness would kill him eventually. That one excuse was enough for him to stay by his side right?

'I'm confused. What am I even doing? What do I even want?'

He walked very quietly to Yuu's sleeping form and crouched next to him. Extending his arm, he gently caressed his friend's cheek. The touch was so light, that Yuu didn't even stirred in his sleep.

'I want to protect him from others, but I'm the one who could hurt him as well. I'm a monster after all. I'm not who I used to be. What if my control falters and I feed on him again. I can't let that happen.'

Mika then ran his fingers through Yuu's hair, very lightly, just like he caressed his cheek.

'I don't want to see you hurt, Yuu. What is it that you want me to do to make you happy? If I could only ask this for real, not only in my head.'

He pulled his hand away from his friends sleeping form. Mika knew what Yuu might want him to do, he suspected what the answer would be, but he was not sure that he would be able to act upon it, he was not sure that he could go against what he so strongly believed in for the person he loved. Yes, he loved Yuu, he loved Yuu so much. There was not a doubt about that. But does not doing blindly what your beloved person ask of you mean that you don't love them enough?

'What's with me and all this questions? It's so tiring and pointless.'

A sharp pain in his throat struck him once again. Immediately his hand went up and around his neck. He got up from his crouching position and went towards the window again. It was much more painful that it was in the forest. Mika tried to breathe in some fresh air, but every time he inhaled, it would sting so badly, that has was on the verge of crying.

'Stop it! Just stop hurting so much already! Stop it!', he was screaming in his head.

The pain was unbearable. He knew it will only get worse by the days if he doesn't drink blood soon, but he was determined to not drink it for as long as he could endure it. Even when the time comes when he can't endure it anymore, he will not take Yuu's. He won't. He is going to stick up with his decision.

'Calm down. I need to calm down. It will only make it harder if I panic.'

Mika tried to do what he did in the forest, hoping it will help him ease the tearing pain. He stood there what it seemed for hours, before he felt it disappearing. It didn't go away completely, but it was much more bearable.

He let go off his neck and went to his backpack. Pulling out his sleeping bag, he went under the window and lied inside it. He wanted to rest and to sleep, a dreamless sleep would be perfect. All this time his head was filled with million thoughts and it was driving him crazy. Mika closed his eyes, praying that his only wish at this moment, which was to not dream, but sleep, would come true.
