Wanda leaned forward and gently kissed Maven's head. She hoped for him to move or something, but he didn't. Wanda whimpered again. She turned to Pietro. Pietro quietly hugged her. Wanda buried her face into her brother's chest. Pietro held her close as they landed at the base. Wanda knelt and picked Maven back up. The group silently headed into Avengers Tower.
Wanda headed to the med-bay to put Maven there. She gently placed him on the bed, bowing her head. Wanda sniffled a few times. She leaned down to kiss his head. She covered Maven with a blanket. "I love you," Wanda whispered. Tears silently flowed down Wanda's face as she walked out. Clint pulled Wanda into his arms.
"He's dead," Wanda whimpered. "I know," Clint whispered. Wanda hugged Clint tightly. Clint lifted her up into his arms, taking her off to their room. Wanda sniffled softly again. Clint hugged her tighter. She wasn't the only one feeling the guilt. Jade slowly slid her uniform off, the scene replaying in her head. She closed her eyes to stop the sudden tears.
She had killed Maven. She had killed Maven. Jade slammed her fist into the mirror in front of her. The mirror shattered, cutting into her hand. Bobbi jumped up from where she was sitting on the bed and gently took Jade's hand. "C'mere," she murmured, leading Jade to the bed. Jade obediently sat as Bobbi cleaned her hand. "What happened wasn't your fault," Bobbi said softly.
Jade sighed. "I just...I feel terrible about it." Bobbi hugged her. "I know you do, I know you do." Jade sighed and hugged Bobbi back. The two sat there for a moment. Bobbi pulled her close, kissing her head. "Sleep," she whispered. Jade nodded, closing her eyes. She drifted off to sleep. Bobbi pulled the blankets up. She hugged Jade close, drifting off to sleep.
A few days passed and soon it was time for the funeral. Steve sat in his room, not yet ready. He felt guilty about what had happened. It killed him inside. He had been the one to let Maven fight. And now Maven was dead. Crossbones had taken his anger out on Maven. And Maven had paid the ultimate price. And Steve was to blame for letting him fight.
