I don't know why I chose this one to update but hey…

"Hey. No. I said don't freak out," Alistair told him, pinning him to the ground.
"Don't touch me!" he yelped, trying to pull his arms out from under him.
At first I thought he was mad at him but his eyes were wide with fear.
"I'll let go when you calm down, deal?" he asked evenly.
"I can't calm down until you're off," he pleaded desperately.
"And I can't let you go until- fine, come here then." He stood and pulled him to his feet, holding him tightly by his wrists. "Forget it ever happened. It's gone. I'll get rid of it." He sighed. "I just thought you might have wanted to see them, that's all."
"No…" he squeaked, shaking his head and carefully looking around Alistair to peer at the box which was now lying on the gravel. The expression on his face reminded me of someone looking a monster in the eye.
"It's okay, Carlisle," he told him, stepping over and blocking his view of it. "It's gone, alright? I'll get rid of it, don't worry."
"I don't want it here," he whimpered.
"I know, I'm sorry," Alistair told him, looking guilty.
Carlisle sucked in a sharp breath that shook and nervously pulled at the edges of his sleeves, studying the ground. A few seconds later he pressed his hand over his mouth, trying to smother a small sob.
"Jesus," Alistair mumbled. "I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was going to upset you like this." He hugged him cautiously and this time Carlisle let him.
He was shaking quite badly and hyperventilating, although I wasn't sure if it had an effect on a vampire.
"What happened? Are you hurt?" Esme asked frantically, appearing out of nowhere and pushing Alistair out of the way so she could wrap her arms around him.
"No," he mumbled, stepping back and taking a deep breath, trying to keep calm as though he had just remembered he was supposed to be leading a coven.
Jasper looked unnerved and somewhat annoyed. "I don't know who it is, but mood swings really aren't a good thing."
"Sorry," Alistair apologised again. "That was my fault."
"What's in the box?" he asked curiously.
"Um…" he shuffled nervously.
"Nothing. Go inside," Carlisle told him, covering whatever emotions he had felt before. His tone came out harsher than usual making Jasper pull a face.
He did what he was told.

"Are you alright?" Esme asked again.
"I'm fine." He gave her a small smile but it came out unsure, not very conniving, and his eyes were dark.
She obviously didn't believe him but didn't press the matter either, settling for keeping her arm around his waist.
"E-Esme I'm going to go hunting, okay?" he told her, quickly kissing her cheek.
She looked confused. "I'll come with you then."
He bit his lip and glanced up at the gathering clouds. "Actually…I kind of want to go by myself…"
"Oh, okay." She smiled but I could see it was to cover the hurt of his rejection.
I waited for Carlisle to go back on it and either stay or let her come but he didn't. He just disappeared into the tree line.
"…So what is in the box," she asked carefully, looking down at it.
"Ahh…nothing. It doesn't matter." Alistair picked it up again and squeezed it like he was about to crush it but he stopped himself. He glanced up at Garrett. "What do I do with it? Surely he can't actually want me to…"
"I did tell you-"
"Now is not the time for 'I told you so', Garrett Denali," he snapped. "What the hell do I do with it?"
"I don't know," he shrugged. "Burn it, I guess."
Alistair sighed heavily. "But that doesn't fix the fact I've upset Carlisle, does it."
"…Maybe not, but it's a start at least."
"Pretending it never happened isn't making things better, which is exactly what he's going to do!" He was on the brink of yelling.
"Calm down. Getting worked up over nothing isn't going to fix things either!"
"What's going on?" Esme butted in, silencing both of them. They studied the dirt. She glared at the pair of them before snatching the box out of Alistair's hands. "Last chance. What did you do to my husband?"
