Chapter 2: Something Uninvited
300 Years later
Darkness... That's the first thing he remembered. It was dark, and it was cold, and he was scared. But the cold then changed to a burning heat. And the darkness was accompanied by flames.
"It's so hot. I'm on fire. My body! My throat! I'm burning!" He panicked.
"You'll be alright." Said a soft tender female voice. "Just try to relax and get some sleep."
"Huh? Who are you?" He wondered who it was and where the voice came from. He then realized that he was unconscious.
He slowly flickered his eyes open. He could see a ceiling, which means he was lying down. He looked around at his surrounding, till he happened upon a girl around his age. Platinum blonde hair braided into a bun. Wearing a kimono with winter patterns on it. When he stirred and tried to sit up, he groaned in pain. The girl heard him and quickly turned to him. She placed her hands on his shoulders, preventing him from moving.
"You shouldn't try to move just yet." She urged him. She then laid him back on the floor bed. "You must be in a lot of pain." She said worryingly as she pulled the covers over him.
"Who are you?" He whispered.
"Me? My name Eruza Fuyu" She said with a smile.
"Eruza?"
"That's right." She nodded. "And THIS is where I live." She gestured about her home. It was a large room.
"What happened to me?" He asked.
"Um, well…" She began, blushing red. "I found you unconscious in my backyard garden. I brought you here because you were terribly injured." She explained.
"I was?"
"Yes. But do not worry you'll be fine now." Eruza assured him. "My mother says that you've gotten through the worst of it."
"So… did you save me?" Eruza instantly blushed in awe. But she smiled in sincere.
"I guess so."
"But I…" He tried to explain.
"What is it?" She asked.
"I don't know… who I am." He said.
"Just try and focus." She advised. But he quickly sat up and grabbed Eruza's shoulders. She gasped in shock.
"Tell me!" He groaned, looking straight and deep into her sapphire blue eyes.
"I… um…" She stammered in fear. From there he saw a faint reflection of himself. He gasped and felt his head with his hand. He quickly got up from his bed, ignoring the pain. Eruza blushed redder than ever as he rushed to open the fusuma. There was vast backyard garden. It was all covered in a blanket of snow, yet there was a little pond next to the wooden pavement of the architecture. He stared down at the pond and saw his reflection. His skin and hair were pale white as the snow. He did however have the exact same sapphire blue eyes as Eruza. It was a complete shock to him. And of course the reason why Eruza was blushing bright red was because he was completely naked, despite that fact. But he didn't pay much mind to it.
"My… my name… I remember my name…" He said to himself.
"Y-Your… your name?" Eruza stammered still blushing while also covering up her eyes from the site of his complete naked body. This explains why she blushed when he asked. She also happened to find him like that. (And no she didn't sleep with him! Well… at least not yet. lol. ;) )
"Jakku…" He said. "It's… Jakku. Jakku Toukan" It was definitely him. It was Jakku. "But why?" He continued. "Why can't I… remember?"
It was now the next day. The sun was shining bright and the trees and flowers were in full bloom. It was spring and the birds chirped and sang. The winter was gone over night. But how? The answer will soon be revealed. Jakku woke up and sat up from his bed, fully clothed this time. The events of last nights wake up call was still on his mind.
"Why is my hair white?" He asked himself.
"Glad to see you're finally awake." Said a male voice. He turned his head in the direction of the voice to see a man and a woman.
"Thankful for the person who saved your life?" The woman said gesturing about Eruza.
"But he doesn't remember, Geruda." Eruza said peeking from the fusuma. The woman's name is Geruda.
"We know that dear." Said the man with sincere as he knelt down on his knees. "We were just hoping we would trigger something." The man turned to Jakku, while Geruda tended to Jakku. "So you're name is Jakku. The princess told us how she found you in her garden with nothing on." Just the mere mention of that made both Jakku and Eruza blush. "I am Kai and the women seeing to your injuries is named Geruda. We are the princess servants and guardians."
"Princess?" Jakku said in curiosity. "Wait… Erza's a princess?" He said in wide-eyed shock.
"Yes." Kai nodded. "And THIS is Himeji Castle where we live."
"I'm so sorry!" Jakku panicked as he faced them and bowed in respect. "If I've known that you were royalty I would have addressed you properly!"
"It's fine." Eruza giggled.
"Please hold still, young man." Geruda said to him.
"Oh right." Jakku repositioned himself and Geruda continued to tend to him.
"My, my. Such and energetic one aren't you." Kai smirked.
"Please tell me. Who am I?" Jakku said with sad begging eyes.
"We've all been wondering the same thing." Geruda said as she finished up.
"For now I suggest you focus on resting and getting yourself healthy again." Kai said as he and Geruda got up and walked out of Eruza's room. Jakku was still left confused.
"Excuse me." Eruza said as she sat down next to him. "I had the cook make you some rice porridge." She said holding up the boll to him. "It's mororo."
"Mororo?"
"You need to eat something if you want to get your strength back." She said as she started stirring the boll and scooping up and spoon full.
"Oh right." Jakku realized. "Thank you, princess." He smiled sincerely. Eruza gasped for some reason and then blushed a smiled.
"It's… nothing." Eruza said blushing. "Try it before it gets cold. Well actually it's still kind of hot." Eruza gentaly blew on it to cool the porridge down. Jakku then heard someone at the fusuma entrance. He quickly turned to see another girl almost Eruza's age. She had strawberry blond hair, which was also braided into a bun. But the girl quickly hid from Jakku's site. Jakku wondered who it was.
After sometime past Jakku had the mororo porridge and felt well enough. He did however had to be transferred to another room in the castle. But it was only to get changed into more suitable clothing. Jakku was fitted into a Haori, Haori himo, Hakama, and Tabi and Zori. Yet these do seem the type of clothes only an emperor would wear.
"Hmm, that's much better." Geruda said. "Our emperor's cloths fit you well."
"I agree." Eruza chirped. "They're a perfect fit."
"So then. I suppose you want to go out and about?" Geruda said to Jakku.
"Yes, ma'am." Jakku nodded. "I can't allow myself to stay in your care forever."
"But… are you sure you don't need more rest?" Eruza said in concern.
"Then perhaps you should go with him." Kai said entering the room.
"Huh?" Eruza said in awe.
"I agree." Geruda said. "We don't want him collapsing in the forest again, do we?"
"But Kai. Geruda." She said out of embarrassment.
"Keep a close eye on him my dear." Kai smiled.
"Are you sure?" Eruza said still blushing. "I mean it's not very royal like for a princess to walk among the public."
"Go on now." Geruda said urging them.
"I agree. You've been isolated for 10 years and I think a good change of pace is needed." Kai agreed with Geruda.
"Okay." Eruza sighed. Just then Jakku noticed someone at the fusuma entrance. It was the same strawberry blonde girl from earlier. The instant Jakku noticed the girl gasped and hid again. Eruza noticed this too.
"Hey. Don't be rude." Eruza said with a stern face. "Why don't you introduce yourself An'na?" Eruza turned back to Jakku. "Well… that's my little sister."
"Hello." Jakku smiled. An'na quickly hid away out of shyness. "It appears she's not to fond of me."
"I'm sorry." Eruza said with a sad look. "I guess when she saw you dressed in our father's clothes it made her feel uncomfortable."
"Where is he?" Jakku looked around. "Can I meet your father? The emperor?"
"Our father's not alive anymore." Eruza said with a sad face. "Mother died with him as well. They died in a ship wreck in a storm out at sea."
"Then it's disrespectful for me to be dressed in these clothes." Jakku said feeling guilty.
"No. Please don't worry about it." Eruza shook head, insisting. "They passed away when we were both very young." She said with a sad smile. Jakku smiled back in understanding.
Outside on the castle courtyard just before the castle entrance, Jakku was walking slowly with a wooden walking stick and leaning on princess Eruza for support.
"I appreciate you lending your shoulder." Jakku said honestly. "But I'm worried that this is going to wear you out." He said in concern.
"It'll be alright." Eruza smile brightly up at him. "Girls are pretty strong just as men." As they approached the gate they saw someone. A large hulking bulking old man, with a long white beard and dressed in red.
"Hello there!" He bellowed a chuckle.
"Kita!" Eruza waved back in excitement.
"So you're the one." Kita said looking down at Jakku with a smile. "I heard that some weird guy was found stark naked in the castle garden. Also was brought in for some healing."
"W-Weird?" Jakku blushed from embarrassment of the mere memory of that embarrassing moment. Even Eruza was blushing from embarrassment of the mere thought. The Kita narrowed his eyes at Jakku and got a closer look at him and studied him to see if he was trust worthy or not. Jakku felt a little uncomfortable. But Kita smiled in delight.
"They were right!" Kita chuckled as he wrapped an arm around Jakku. "This is a pretty weird man!" He laughed. Eruza felt a little worried about Kita being rough with Jakku, even if it was friendly of him.
"Sorry if I scared you." Kita said. "Our kingdom doesn't get many visitors around here. Just soldiers going to battle and coming from battle."
"There are battles being fought?" Jakku asked.
"Every now and then." Kita said. "Himeji is more peaceful than other parts. So we catch them passing though sometimes. There's not much going on in our great kingdom. But we enjoy it that way." Kita explained as they all looked over the down the vast village.
"It would seem there are a lot of houses undergoing repair." Jakku said looking out to the village.
"Not all of them. Most of them are new ones, while the some and rest are just old one being updated to catch up with the times." Kita said. "Just like this old man right here." He said smiling and pointing to himself. He then laughed a booming one. Eruza giggled herself. "Well Eruza, you're certainly moving up fast for a late bloomer." Kita said. Eruza didn't get what he meant by that. But when she looked at Jakku's hand on her shoulder and her holding him up, that's when she understood and blushed as a result.
"N-No he's injured! I'm helping him up! You see?" She stammered and blushed in embarrassment. Kita only laughed.
"Well that's a relief." Kita smiled. "It would seem a little out of place for our princess to be courted by a total stranger. That makes a little more sense." He then turned back at Jakku. "I don't know what kind of guy you are. But I guess everything will be fine." He smiled. "As long as you take good care of her."
"Kita!" Eruza groaned. Kita only laughed. Little did they know that An'na was following close behind them.
And so the tour around Himeji began. Eruza guided Jakku, while also giving him support, through the village. Everywhere they went they saw families, couples, friends, and children out in the markets, bars, stores, and theaters. Children playing ball in the wide-open spaces, friends laughing and telling stories and jokes to each other. Couples walking hand in hand or cuddling close to each other. Families strolling. Farmers and workers pulling their wagons by hand or traveling by horse. Passing by little farms and stables. However everyone was shocked but joyful to see their princess among the crowd. Now and then they bowed in respect. Though they were confused as to who Jakku is. After all they had never seen him before. Eruza would always explain that she was giving him a tour of the village. Everyone felt worried that the princess should bare that burden. But she didn't mind and Jakku was enjoying himself.
Later that afternoon they decided to take a break and rest in under the shade of a nice tree on a little hill.
"Are you feeling alright? Aare you still in pain?" She asked in concern.
"No I'm just feeling a bit tired." He said resting his eyes while also laying back against the tree trunk.
"I'm sorry. I guess I must have pushed you too hard." Eruza said feeling and looking guilty.
"No. I'm the one who wanted to go out today princess. So you shouldn't feel sorry." Jakku said sincerely and modestly.
"You can call me Eruza." She said. "It'll make things much easier for you."
"Alright then, Eruza." He smiled at her.
"But still…"
"You've been great. Thanks a lot." He said smiling at her. Eruza was taken back by Jakku's kindness. It made her blush bright red. But she quickly regained her posture.
"We should probably head back to the castle once you're rested." Eruza suggested.
"Sure. Sounds good." He nodded. The two were enjoying themselves greatly. But then they heard small rumblings in the village. Eruza stood up and looked out over the village. "Is something wrong?"
"Stay here and get some rest." She ordered. "I'll be right back, okay?" And with that she left.
Out in the village, a group of unfamiliar soldiers were ransacking houses. A man with a wolf for a pet was the leader of this little group.
"Listen up, peasants!" He announced. "I'm here to collect your annual contributions! You should consider it an honor to give your measly sacrifices for the country!"
"No! That's not fair!" The people started to protest.
"Shut up!" He shouted. "I didn't ask for your opinion! Just do as I say! Got it?"
"What is the meaning of this!?" Eruza demanded as she came in to the scene.
"Why hello there, Princess." The man said. "I was hoping I'd gain an audience with you. Though not under these circumstances."
"Who are you? And what is the meaning for this?" Eruza demanded.
"I am Nottingamu. Sheriff of Osaka." He bowed. "What do think of my wolf? He's a little on the wild side but I got the skills to-." But the wolf bit his hand before he could finish. He groaned in agonizing pain. Of course everyone laughed. "You son of a bitch! How dare you bite your master!" He hissed and snarled. He then kicked the wolf. It wined in pain. "Now! Who was that!? Who's laughing!?" He demanded. Every stopped and quieted down. "Damn. I hate these hicks." He hissed.
"How could you say that to such innocent good people?" Eruza said in shock.
"Whatever. I don't want to hear it from you." Nottingamu shrugged.
"Lord Nottingamu!" Said a imp solider with a bow and arrow. "We finished the collection."
"Good, Torigā. Then go ahead." He ordered.
"Yes, sir." He nodded. And with that the soldiers rode off with wagons of food, money, clothing, etc.
"This is my kingdom! You have no right to take from us!" Eruza argued. Then Nottingamu reached into his pocket and pulled out a scroll.
"I have a warrant from our emperor." He said all smug. "Meaning we have every right to do what we want whenever we want, however we want as we see fit."
"But why would you steel from us?"
"Just give it up princess." He said all smug. "You know I don't care about these hicks. I'm too good for them." But then suddenly he grabbed her arm. Everyone gasped. "However since a princess like you is in need of a suitor, I think our emperor with be a fine match for you."
"What!? No!" She struggled to get free.
"What's the matter with you?" He said with confusion. "Are you crazy or something? There isn't any woman alive who would pass an opportunity like this."
"It just isn't what I want!"
"Why not? TELL ME WHY!?" He roared demanding.
"Just leave us alone!"
"Obviously she doesn't want to go with you." Said a familiar voice. Everyone turned in the direction of the voice.
"Now what? Who are you?" Nottingamu demanded. The person, who was walking up and standing up to him, was Jakku. "I've never seen you before. I demand you tell me you the hell you are, right now!" He demanded as he walked over to Jakku.
"That is of no concern to you. And I have no reason to introduce myself." Jakku said looking unfazed.
"What? You must not realize who you're talking to." Nottingamu said up in Jakku's face.
"I don't care."
"This is why I hate dealing with you bunch of hicks!" He hissed. "I am Nottingamu! Sheriff of Osaka! I serve emperor Jon, the king of Osaka!" Jakku just kept staring like he was unmoved and unfazed. "So overcome with fear he can't even talk!" He said all smug and arrogant. "Tell me princess! How long have you've been letting this white haired weirdo hang out in your kingdom? You ought to run his ass out of here! I guess I can do that for you right now!"
"Stop it!" Eruza said as she ran up between him and Jakku. "Leave him alone! He's not a weirdo okay!?"
"Huh? Wait why are you sticking up for him?" Nottingamu said looking all confused.
"Because I know what a wonder person he is because he's been living with me!" Eruza said with confidence and with out hesitation. Everyone, including the Sheriff was taken back by all of this.
"Y-Your living with this weirdo!?" He stuttered in shock. "Did you to two do it?" He asked out of curiosity. Eruza immediately blushed with embarrassment. She thinks she just made a big misunderstanding.
"W-What!?"
"Why would princess, having sexual intercourse with a stranger?" He pondered. "Unless you truly are a whore." He smirked. Everyone was appalled by his rude behavior.
"How dare you!" Jakku snarled. "How dare you assume anything without proof!? You call yourself a sheriff!? You're nothing but a sham!" Eruza felt touched by Jakku's act of good will.
"Sham!?" Nottingamu said in outrage. "You the hell do you think you are!? Where the hell did this guy come from anyway!?"
"I found him injured in my backyard garden up at the castle." Eruza explained. "So what was I suppose to do, just leave him there to die?" Then he chuckled to himself.
"I should have known. Of course that's what happen." He smirked. "Sorry I over reacted. But I can't shake this habit of trying to find dirt of others. Old habits really die hard."
"Well… I guess it's about time for you to be going." Jakku said.
"Silence! Don't talk to be like that!" He snarled. "This has nothing to do with you!" He then proceeded to punch Jakku. But to everyone's surprise Jakku caught Nottingamu's punch.
"I think it has plenty to do with me." Jakku said holding the sheriff's fist. "Eruza saved my life. I owe her." Once again Eruza was touched by Jakku's words. Nottingamu finally freed himself.
"So now you're calling her by her name?" He snarled. "Guess he must be pretty special doesn't he?" And with that he left. An'na who was still following close behind the entire tour, saw everything.
Later that evening the two headed back for the castle. They were silent for the rest of the trip back.
"Eruza?" Jakku finally spoke up.
"Yes? What is it?"
"If there is anything I've said today that has deeply offended you, I sincerely apologize." Jakku said.
"What?"
"It's just that you've been so quiet."
"Oh sorry." She said with a sad smile. "It's just… If any, I feel happy."
"You're happy?" Jakku asked confused. "But I'm such a burden."
"No not at all!" She insisted. "I mean you were the once who rescued me today, remember?"
"It seems the so-called sheriff has been tainted by the power of greed." Jakku said.
"I guess you could say that." She agreed.
Later that night at the castle it was raining. However Eruza decided to check on Jakku's wounds. The maids were helping him stitch the last bandages on him.
"It would seem that the marks are healing up." Eruza said.
"Thank you. It's to you that I owe my recovery." Jakku said sincerely.
"No, it's thanks to my mother's medicine." Eruza said sincerely. "She used to make medicine for me and An'na when ever we got hurt."
"You know…" Jakku began. "…for some reason I can't control-." But his thoughts and words were interrupted by flash of visions. Teeth. Sharp teeth. Jakku gasped and groaned from the headache. "What the hell is happening to me?" Eruza was in wide-eyed shock. She felt the need to ease Jakku's pain.
"Calm doen." Eruza said calmly as she placed her hands on his back. "Please just try to relax." After a few moments, Jakku was able to calm down and relax.
"I'm sorry." He sighed. "I'm making you uneasy."
"There's no point in dwelling on things like that." She said. "Right now it's more important that you concentrate on getting better." She then smiled. "You'll be alright. I'm sure your memories will return as soon as you're well again." She said sincerely. Jakku smiled at her.
"Hearing that from you puts me at ease." He said. "Thank you, Eruza." She was once again touched by his kindness and smiled and blushed. "I imagine you will be a great empress once day." She was once again touched by his kindness. "Thanks for everything."
"It's the least I can do." She smiled at him. There was a tender moment between them. "Oh that reminds me. Tomorrow is my coronation day."
"Coronation?"
"Yes." She noded. "You see suitors from all over Japan are gathering to take my hand in marriage. Of course my sister will also get hers on my coronation too. We'll both be getting suitors."
"You mean arranged marriages."
"That's right. It's a stepping-stone to become empress. To have a husband as emperor and unite the kingdoms." She explained.
"You don't seem happy about it."
"I don't have a choice." Eruza said much to her dismay. "Anyway, it's getting late. You better get to your room and rest."
"Alright." Jakku nodded. "Goodnight Eruza."
"Goodnight Jakku."
Later that Jakku was walking towards his room. Kai and Garuda arranged him a room of his own while him and Eruza were away. But before he could enter he stopped. He just remembered something.
"My walking stick." He said. "I completely forgot it." He then ran back to Eruza's room to get it.
When he reached her room, he cleared his throat.
"Excuse me princess." He said while opening up the fusuma door. "I just remembered-" But he stopped when he got a glimps at was in Eruza's had. A snowflake. Eruza stared at him in wide-eyed horror. While Jakku stared in awe. She could use magic. Winter magic. Which explained the snow outside from last night.
Chapter 2 Complete! Oh boy! Jakku just discovered Eruza's greatest secret. How will she react? How will He react? Read it, review it, and tell me what you people think. This is just here for people to enjoy. :)
