Chapter 2

It had been about six weeks since Cal and Harriet got together. Her job at the ED was going well and everyone knew about her relationship with Cal and although she had been warned by several people in the ED to be careful she felt like she could trust him.

There had been a big change in Cal lately, he had grown up so much and had a new found respect for women. He wasn't chasing after every tall thin blonde that walked through the door anymore, he worked, did his job then went home and either spent time at Ethan's or at Harriet's place.

"What time you off?" Harriet asked her boyfriend as he opened his locket taking out his bottle drinking from it.

"Seven." He smiled a little leaning on the locker.

"You look shattered." She told him as she stood facing him. "You've been in here every day this week."

"Yeah well I am needed." He sighed a little "I need to pull my weight more according to Connie."

"Or the fact that it's your brother that's off sick and you're expected to pick up the slack?" Harriet rolled her eyes.

"It's fine, Ethan will be back in action next week. I will have more time to spend with you then." He winked.

"You should be so lucky." Harriet smirked. "I'm finished now, half day, but could you pop round to mine on your way home? I want to tell you something."

"Can't you tell me now?" Cal frowned.

"Not really the right place, and you should get back before Connie comes looking for you." She smiled and stood on her tiptoes kissing his cheek before leaving him guessing.

Cal hated being kept guessing. He knew it was nothing bad otherwise she would have told him there and then. Finally his shift finished and he was more than relieved to be able to go home. After collecting Ethan's prescription that he promised he'd get he walked to Harriet's.

Cal knocked once on the door the way he normally did before opening it.

"Just me." He called out as he went inside.

"I'm in the kitchen." He heard Harriet call back.

He went through and smiled seeing her sat at the table with something wrapped in some tissue on the table in front of her.

"What's going on?" He asked as he saw her.

"Sit down." She smiled and Cal did as he was told.

She pushed the tissue towards him and nodded. Cal frowned as he unwrapped to reveal a pregnancy test. At first he thought it was a joke but when he read the word positive on it his eyes widened and he looked at Harriet to see she was tearing up.

"We're having a baby." She spoke her voice full of emotion.

"Oh my god…" Cal responded, all he could do was laugh and he got to his feet walking around the table and held Harriet close.

"Are you happy?" She asked as she buried her head in his shoulder.

"I thought you were going to make me meet your parents or something!" He laughed remember what had been going through his head after he was left hanging. "I'm over the moon. I'm going to be a dad. How far along are you?"

"Just six weeks. So don't tell anyone just yet." She smiled and pulled away gently.

"I have to tell Ethan…" Cal grinned.

"Well yes Ethan but no one else ok?" She kissed him. "Keep those sealed."

"I will I promise. I need to go though Ethan will be waiting for his tablets." Cal smiled.

"I'll see you tomorrow." She nodded and kissed him again before he left.

Cal soon got home, he was buzzing. Happier than he can ever remember being in his life. It was all completely unplanned but it just all felt right.

"Hey." Cal called as he got home. He took off his coat and shoes before going through to the lounge where Ethan was laid across the sofa with a duvet over the top of him.

"How you feeling?" He asked his brother.

"No better but no worse so I suppose that's something." Ethan spoke and sat himself up drawing his legs towards himself to allow Cal to sit down.

"Well I've got you some anti-biotics so they should help." He told him giving him the white bag with the box of pills in it.

"Thanks." Ethan smiled taking the bag and placing it on the table. "How was work?"

"It was alright. Everyone seems to have the same virus you have though so a bit busy. People throwing up left right and centre." Cal shrugged. "But I found out something exciting today."

"What's that then?" Ethan asked,

"Well, me and Harriet. We're going to have a baby. You're going to be an uncle." He grinned.

"Oh wow. That's amazing." Ethan laughed a little in the same way Cal had.

"I can't wait. But we're being sworn to secrecy." Cal warned him.

"Yeah, that's fine. Congratulations." Ethan smiled before sighing slightly.

"You don't look great." Cal commented.

"I don't feel great, sorry. I know you're excited I don't want to bring you down." Ethan shook his head.

"Go have a shower and go to bed, I'll bring you something up to eat later on. You'll feel better after that." Cal smiled at him and got to his feet.

Ethan slowly stood up too. "Thanks Cal. I really am happy for you." He spoke before heading upstairs.

It was clear to Ethan that Cal had grown up, he was considering him before himself and was happy about the fact he was going to be a father. If someone had told him this would be happening six months ago, he would have laughed.

As promised Cal came upstairs with some toast, a drink and two tablets for his younger brother.

"Here we are." He smiled placing them on the bedside table.

"Thanks Cal." Ethan sat himself up in the bed. "Be glad when this has passed."

"Same here, Connie has me covering the majority of your shifts. Even Harriet said I looked tired." Cal told him. "We need to celebrate too. For our new addition."

"We will, in style. Don't worry about that." Ethan smiled before taking his medication then starting on his toast.

"Good, can't wait." Cal smiled going to the door. "Just shout if you need anything."

Ethan smiled and nodded before watching him leave.

Cal headed to his room and turned his TV on low before sitting on his bed and flicking through the channels. He stopped as he saw a baby flash up on the screen. A little baby girl, she was giggling and smiling and her mother and father were sat with her playing with her. Cal couldn't help but smile to himself knowing that would be him and Harriet very soon.

His new son or daughter was going to be a perfect little person with the looks and the brains and they were going to have everything they needed and they were going to be a family together and no one was going to ruin it.
