Author's Note: Was in the mood and decided to post 2 chapters of this. I'm probably not going to make it too long, but it is something. Just an idea I wanted to play with. :) Again, it might be OOC. Especially since I don't know Joker's character that well.

Let me know what you all think.

P.S: I'm thinking about bringing the main Alice of HNKNA back as well. Having both Alice's meet and all. You'll see what I got in mind if you haven't caught on yet. I'd say this is going on during April Season/Joker no Kuni no Alice.

The Other Alice

Chapter 2: The Battle Within Her

Having heard the commotion going on downstairs, the other residents of the tower made their way to check it out. Especially since Nightmare Gottschalk, the boss of the tower, sensed a new presence among them. This person's mind was very loud and dark. He felt it the moment she entered their world and couldn't seem to focus because of it.

"Lord Nightmare was right, we do have a new foreigner. What's your name?" His subordinate, Gray Ringmarc asked. He was a handsome man with short dark black hair and a lizard tattoo on his neck.

"Her name is Alice Liddell." Nightmare answering it before she could. Alice looked to him, surprised he knew. It was like he could read her mind. "Ah, but I can read your mind. It's very loud and very...dark." Alice noticed he wore an eyepatch over one of his eyes and had short silver hair.

"H-How is that possible?" She questioned.

A smile came to Gray's face as he explained. "Lord Nightmare has the ability to read people's minds."

"All except for yours, Gray." He stated before pulling out a hookah. The action caused Alice to suddenly think of the caterpillar from her Wonderland who sprouted wings and flew away, becoming a butterfly. Nightmare started to cough. "Why are you comparing me to him?"

"You both smoke hookahs and know exactly what to say. Now that I think about it, maybe the Caterpillar was a mind reader as well?" Alice exclaimed, bringing her hand to chin to think it over carefully.

This caused Nightmare to cry out. "I'm not a caterpillar! I'm a bagworm, there's a difference!" He began to cough up blood, causing Alice to suddenly stiffen.

Images of her corrupted Wonderland began to haunt her mind again, causing her to breath heavily and fast. Unconsciously bringing her hands to clutch her head, Alice was beginning to panic. And then suddenly, her mind cleared in an instant and she forgot what she was thinking about. The girl looked up to see all the roleholders looking at her. What was going on?

"I'm sorry Alice, I didn't mean to worry you." Nightmare said, wiping the blood from his mouth.

"You didn't worry me. I don't know what you're talking about." Alice said, turning away from him. Her mind felt foggy and confused. Like she was forgetting something and it was on the tip of her tongue, but something wasn't letting her say it or think it for that matter.

Nightmare walked up to her, smiling. "Just know you will be okay here, alright?!"

"What are you trying to get at? I don't need protection. I can take care of myself thank you very much." Alice told him, pulling away from his touch. She didn't really like others touching her.

"S-Sorry."

Alice looked around the workshop to take a seat and couldn't help but notice the clocks scattered about his desk. Taking a seat at Julius' desk, she asked them a question. "So, from the sounds of it, this other Alice ran back home and you guys were trying to bring her back, but you got me instead." A dark look came across her green eyes. "So in other words, you were trying to kidnap her!"

Nightmare gulped from it as Peter answered bluntly. His happy demneaor now revealing the cold within him. "Yes. I went to bring my Alice back here, but stumbled across you instead. I overheard you talking with that man and realized you shared the same name with her. You even spoke of Wonderland. So I figured, why not bring you back here instead and make you into her." He sighed. "However, you're the opposite of her."

Of all the things...this had to be the craziest thing she heard yet. What kind of pervert would kidnap a girl? And yet, for some reason, it struck a cord in her very heart. Why was it familiar? Alice stood up from the chair, giving the rabbit a dark look. "I can't believe you. Obviously the girl ran back home because you kidnapped her and tried to force her to love you more than likely. What girl wouldn't want to escape that?!"

A gunshot was heard as everyone froze in the room, even Alice. A bullet had grazed her arm, missing her on purpose. Her eyes were locked with shock on the White Rabbit who had his gun pointed at her. "Never speak of my Alice like that again, you filth! I thought you could be like her, but I was wrong. You're a lost cause."

Just as Julius and the others were beginning to stop him, Peter turned and left the tower. They all turned to her, expecting her to be shocked and crying, but instead were surprised to find Alice growling, and looking to where the rabbit had been standing with fury. "He just tried to bloody shoot me! Who the hell does he think he is?"

Julius sighed, finding all the noise very annoying. Gray went over and checked on her to make sure she wasn't badly injured. "It's just a graze, you'll be fine." He said, bandaging it up for her. "You should feel lucky that he didn't kill you."

Alice seemed to calm down a little, turning to look at him before looking down. "Yeah, I should...but I don't." It was quiet as Nightmare could see the hidden meaning behind her words. "Now, if you don't mind, I think I'll take my leave. Thank you for bandaging me up and I'm sorry for the commotion." She said, looking to the roleholders.

Before she could leave through the door, Nightmare stopped her, blocking the way. "Ah, one of us should go with you. It's not safe for you to go alone right now. April Season is about to begin!"

Alice raised a brow. "April Season? Is that suppose to mean something?"

"It means the circus is coming to town and it will be harder and if not more dangerous for you to visit other territories alone."

She sighed. "The circus doesn't scare me."

"It should."

Obviously they were very adamant in their ways. And if it was anything she had learned, take the caterpillar's words to heart. "I'll be careful then. Now, step aside and let me pass!" Alice yelled, causing him to move out of her way. The roleholders watched as the girl walked away.

"Do you think she will be alright?" Gray asked Nightmare.

It was hard to say. There was a battle going on inside her mind, loud and clear. Despite how he tried to get her to forget it, it didn't completely quiet it.

Alice noticed it was starting to get cold as she left the tower and started venturing around. As she walked, thinking she was making her way toward a mansion, she ended up stumbling right into the circus Nightmare warned her about.

She sighed, finding it ironic that she ended up here of all places. "Speak of the devil..."

"There is no devil here." A man's voice said. Alice turned around and saw someone with red hair dressed as a Jester. He wore an eyepatch as well.

"Who are you?" She asked.

"I'm Joker, and you must be the new outsider." He smiled. "What's your name?"

"Alice Liddell. And no, I'm not that other girl that happens to share the same name with me."

Joker looked intrigued, bringing a finger to his lips. "Ah, so we have another Alice I see."

"This bitch is different from the last one, that's for sure." A small voice was heard. Alice looked to the jester, confused and a bit offended.

"Excuse me?" She said, raising an eyebrow at him.

Joker laughed nervously, covering the mask on his belt. "Sorry, that was my counterpart. He can be a bit...forward. Take no offense my dear."

"Uh, huh." Alice crossed her arms, wanting to write it all off. "I'm looking for a mansion and I'm guessing I can't get to it all because of you."

Joker nodded. "You must play a card game with me and then you can go to whichever season you please."

Alice sighed, annoyed. "You could have just said so. Those other guys were making such a big deal about me running into you."

"Other guys?" He asked.

"The roleholders from the tower."

A dark smile graced his lips. "Oh, is that so? What a shame, especially since all I offer is friendship and fun." Alice looked like she didn't care either way. Joker motioned to one of the wooden boxes. "Take a seat my dear. What kind of game would you like to play?"

"How about Go Fish?" Alice asked.

Joker nodded, pulling out the deck. "Sounds good." Once he delt out the cards and they started the game, he began to ask her questions. "So, besides your name is there anything else you can tell me about yourself?"

"Like what?"

"Well... you must be different from the last Alice we met so why not start with interests and hobbies?" Joker asked.

"I like animals and stuffed plushes I guess." She laid down a pair and realized she didn't have another. "Go fish!" Joker gave her one card. "I also like desserts, reading and drawing."

"I ain't sharing any of my sweets with you!" The mask stated.

Alice glared over to the mask before looking up to Joker. "Are you serious about having a counterpart?"

"No shit he is. Didn't you hear him say that? Are you stupid or something?"

Joker chuckled nervously. "Yes. Once again, I'm sorry about him Alice."

She continued to raise a green eye at him before laying down another pair. "Well, if it's true, you can have all your candy and chocolate. I'd much rather prefer other desserts, cake and tea anyway!" She stuck her tongue out at the mask.

"Go fish!" Joker said as he drew a new card. His one eye suddenly narrowed ever so slightly. "So, do you have any family, Alice?"

Suddenly her breath hitched, grasping onto her cards. She couldn't help the sad look that briefly came to her face. "Yeah, but now it's just me." She wanted to just avoid the subject.

"What happened if you don't mind me asking?" But he was going to ask anyway regardless. It was his job after all.

"A fire. That's what." Alice quickly said. "I'd really like to not talk about it anymore."

Joker nodded, understanding. "Of course."

It was silent for awhile as they continued to play their game. At least until the blunt mask at Joker's belt had to stick the sword right to her chest by saying just a few words. "Was the fire your fault? That's probably the reason you don't want to talk about it."

Suddenly her environment began to change around her into a prison, but Alice didn't notice as she was taken off by that comment. Her heart pounding loudly in her chest and her breath hitching. Maybe it was my fault. I can't remember. I was playing with Dinah and left the lantern on. She must have jumped and knocked it over, regardless...

A person who looked exactly like Joker, but was dressed in a black warden's outfit walked up to her, smirking. "Well, well, well. Look who happened to stumble into this place. Are you lost?"

She was snapped from her thoughts, looking up to the warden and finally realizing where she was. "What are we doing here?"

The warden was cold and strict, tapping the riding crop against his hand. "You wanted to be here." Alice looked to him, confused. "Now tell me Alice, what have you done?"

Alice has landed herself in Wonderland's prison with Black Joker. However will she get out of this one? Find out in the next chapter! Kudos to anyone that notices that reference at the end to the AMR trailer's.
