On the route Ash and May were walking on the road to Viridian City.
"Just think May all those years reading books and helping Professor Oak are about to pay off." Ash smiled.
May nodded. "You said it. But I always have to pry you away from books for a while."
"Hey, I like to keep up with my studies.",he argued.
"Oh really and is that why Professor Oak had to put a limit on how many books you can borrow?" She teases.
Ash sighed. "Will you ever stop bringing that up?"
"Not until it stops being funny." She smiles
"Oh? So I should bring up the Tentacool incident?",he grins.
May gasps. "You wouldn't dare!"
"Now let's see what happened oh yeah your mom saw you surrounded by Tentacool and what did she do again?"
May clamped his mouth. "Ok! Ok! I take back what I said!"
Ash smiled under her hand. "Thank you.",he muffled.,he felt his Pokeball wiggle and Riolu came out.
'I swear you two, you'll never cease this nonsense.',he sighs.
"Oh don't be like that." Ash said.
"Yeah we're just having fun.",May said.
They walk down the path when they heard wings flapping. They look up to see a a blue Pokemon with cotton like wings and a purple bat Pokemon.
"What are those?" May asks
"Swablu the Cotton Bird Pokemon. For some reason, it likes to land on people's heads softly and act like it's a hat."
"Gligar the Fly Scorpion Pokemon. It flies straight at its target's face, then clamps down on the startled victim to inject poison."
"Hey Riolu, how about those for our first capture?",Ash asks.
Riolu looked at Gligar and grinned. 'Just say the word.' "Riolu Quick Attack!" Riolu dashes up the tree and knocks Gligar into the air.
"Go Torchic! Ember!" Torchic appears and fires mini fireballs at Swablu.
Gligar glares and he and Swablu flew into the air. Gligar began shooting poison sting while Swablu started pecking Torchic repeatedly.
May and Ash look at each other and nod. "Riolu Force Palm!"
"Torchic Quick Attack and then Peck!" Riolu jumps towards Swablu and slams his palm into her while Torchic dashes towards Gligar and pecks him repeatedly.
"Gli!",the bat said and tried to fly away but only to be caught and scratched by Torchic.
"Now Ash finish it off!" May said.
"Got it Riolu Force Palm!" Riolu slams his palm into Gligar causing him to faint. "Go Pokeball!" The ball hits Gligar and sends him inside the ball. It began to wiggle and then clicked.
"Way to go Ash!" May said
"Thanks May now catch that Swablu!"
"With pleasure Torchic Fire Spin!" The orange chick opened her mouth and released flames from her mouth and they circle around Swablu.
"Now Peck! Torchic jumps up and pecks Swablu right in the gut sending it crashing into the tree. "Go Pokeball!"
The ball hits her and sents her inside. It wiggled until it finally clicked.
"We did it!" May cheered
"Oh yeah!" Ash cheered as the two of them high five.
"Was there even no doubt?",Riolu asks.
"Tor.",she nodded
"We work well on our own, but as a team we rock!" May smiles
"Am I glad for choosing the right traveling partner.",Ash said.
May playfully shoves him. "Same here."
They decided to let the Pokémon outside to have a bit of air for a while as they continue their way.
Soon they came across a river by a waterfall. "Wow this place looks perfect for finding Water Pokemon." Ash said
"Yeah it's a good thing your mom packed us some fishing poles.",May said getting hers out.
"That's my mom always prepared." Ash said sitting down with his pole. The two sat down and began fishing. While they wait they decided to have a conversation.
"So Ash you excited to be in the Pokémon League?",May asks.
"You bet I am I've been waiting for this for years." Ash smiles
"So where do you plan on getting your first badge?" May asks
"First I'm going to Pewter City and then I'll get my badge, by the way May have you given any thought about you want to do?" Ash asks.
She was shocked and forgot all about that and sighs. "No i haven't. Not yet."
Ash puts his hand on her shoulder. "Hey don't worry I'm sure we'll find what you want to do while traveling."
"You really think so?",she asks.
He nodded. "You know I always do."
May smiles and hugs him. "You're the best."
Ash blushed a bit and smiles and hugs back. They stayed like that for a while until they felt their lines tug. They quickly separated and quickly began to line them back up. They reeled the lures out the water and what came out was a red fish and a brown fish.
"Sweet a bite!" Ash takes out his Pokedex.
"Magikarp the Fish Pokemon. It is virtually worthless in terms of both power and speed. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world."
"Feebas the Fish Pokemon. It eats anything, so it can even live in polluted streams and lakes. No one pays any attention to it."
"Well that seems a bit harsh.",May said looking at the fish.
"Seriously I they make these two sound worthless." Ash said
Magikarp and Feebas lookded down in shame once they heard that. Torchic hopped towards them. "Tortorchic!" They both look up as Riolu nods. "I agree. We don't think you're worthless."
"Magikarp?",it asks.
"Really? There is no such thing as a weak Pokemon. And besides you're going to be one of the most feared and ferocious Pokemon one day.",Riolu said to Magikarp.
Magikarp looks at Riolu and smiles. "Karp! Karp! Magikarp!"
He smiles and turns to Feebas. "And as for you, you're gonna be a very beautiful Pokemon once you evolve."
Feebas smiles as both fish Pokemon swim towards them. "Looks like we have two more friends." May smiles
"Yeah, good job you two.",Ash said.
"Torchic!",the bird said blushed and smiles.
Riolu smiles. "It's my job."
They both take out a Pokeball and the two Fish Pokemon go in and the balls click.
"This day is getting better by the minute.",May said.
Eventually the two of them arrive at Viridian City, but are shocked to see Police everywhere.
"What's going on?",May asks
A Police woman walks over to them. "Excuse me but where did you get those Pokemon?"
"They belong to us." Ash said
"Then why are they not in their Pokeballs?"
"We wanted to let them out for a while. Is there a problem?",May asks.
"My aplogies it's just that there were Pokemon theives spotted around the area.",she explained.
"Pokemon thieves?" Ash said
"Yes so if I were you I'd get to the Pokemon Center and wait until we find the criminals."
They nodded and headed straight for the Pokemon Center.
"I'm a little nervous, about this.",May said.
"Don't worry May I won't let anything happen."
She nodded and thanked him. They arrive at the Pokemon Center and drop off their Pokemon to be healed.
"This will only take a few minutes, I will call when they are all healed up.",the nurse said and she walked away.
May sits down. "Ah what a day this has been." Ash sat next to her. "Yeah I know. So far, we've made good progress."
"Not bad for our first day." May smiles
The machine goes off signaling that their Pokemon were done. "Excellent your Pokemon are completely healed." Nurse Joy said
"Thank you." They both said getting their Pokemon back.
That's when they heard a large growl. Nurse Joy looks around and looked at the two. They both blushed and laughed nervously. "I guess all that walking made us hungry.",Ash said rubbing his head.
"Come on let's go get something to eat." May said as they walked to the cafeteria.
Nurse Joy sweatdropped. "I have never heard such empty stomachs before..."
After eating the two of them were smiling with full bellies. "Ah that hit the spot." May said
"You said it." Ash smiles when suddenly he hears something. "What the? It's coming from the Pokeball room!" They rushed towards it.
They open the door to see two men in black outfits stealing Pokeballs.
Their eyes widen and hid behind a shelf. "Hey May, those suits look familliar to you?",Ash whispered.
She nods. "The same ones from 2 years ago."
They sneak behind the shelf the grunts were grabbing Pokeballs from and push it causing the Pokeballs to come crashing down on top of them.
"Ack!",they both yelled in pain. They crawl out of the pile. "What the hell happened?!"
Ash and May appear in front of them. "Alright 2 things: 1 who the hell are you two and why are you here?",she demanded.
"We're Team Rocket and we don't have to explain ourselves to you!"
"Then maybe you will to officer Jenny, once she gets here!",Ash said.
Soon Officer Jenny arrives and shoves the two grunts into the Police Car. "Excellent work you two I can't believe they would try and steal from the Pokemon Center."
"We were lucky once we heard them.",Ash said.
"I can't thank you two enough." Officer Jenny said
"We're happy to help." May said
She salutes them and went into her car and drove away.
"Ash I'm worried about this Team Rocket, what if there's more of them?" May asks
Ash took a minute to think and faced her. "If so, we have to be on our guard. I may not know much about Team Rocket, but what I do know is we'll do everything we can to put a stop whatever plans they're doing."
May smiles. "You're right Ash, we'll make sure they don't steal any Pokemon."
Ash smiles as they both go inside for some much needed rest. They got a room key from the head nurse and headed in their room. It had a tv, a bathroom and one bed...wait..one?!
Both of them blush. "Uh so I guess we'll be sharing." May stutters
"Y-yea it does seems.",Ash sturtered too. They both lay down on the bed facing opposite directions too nervous to look the other in the eye.
"Hey Ash?",he heard her call.
"Yeah?"
She puts her hand on top of his. "I'm glad we could travel together."
"You keep telling me this May.",he say.
"Well I mean it, besides if I didn't meet you I might have end up traveling with Gary." She said.
"Uck. That would've been a nightmare for you.",Ash groans.
"Yeah he probably would've made me one of his cheerleaders. Ugh can you imagine?"
Ash then imagined May in a cheerleader uniform. He blushed a bit. "Uh yeah totally ridiculous." Ash then hears snoring and looks to see May resting her head on his shoulder fast asleep.
He then smiled and silently chuckled. "Same May since we were kids.",he said and puts her in the bed and tucked her in. "Goodnight May.",he whispered to her.
Ash crawls into bed from the other side and closes his eyes to rest after a long first day of his journey.
