Prologue Part 1 : Anxiety
The bus rattles and the girl tenses her legs to keep from jerking with the movement. This will be her second time riding this train, going to the exact same location. Few people around her jolt around, residence of the area, or used to riding this train. She turn her music down, now it's just a barely audible burble of noise. That's okay, not like she's listening to it. It's more of a barrier from interacting with the world around her. Today, she just needs to focus.
Taking in a deep breath, cold air fills her lungs. Her anxiety is in knots and her hand in her lap turn to fist.
Almost there.
"Hey."
…
"Hey."
Oh. They're talking to her? She looks up feeling a familare heat rush to their cheeks. She hadn't meant to ignore them. Pushing back some over her brow hair— she still needed to put it up— she meets the strangers gaze.
A boy.
He looks to be about her age. Definitely taller than her, but...maybe that's just cause she's sitting down. Other than his mismatch eyes, he doesn't seem to have any other mutation trait—
She blinks. Oh. are those wings?
His wings are beautiful, white in color, leaving an angelic impression. She calms at this observant, then immediately chastise herself. Don't just a book by it's cover! Focusing back on his face, that statement seems to be true at his sour expression. Did she do something wrong already?!
"Are you deaf?"
"No!" The words come out quickly, a reflex. He raises an eyebrow. She snaps her mouth shut and tries again, "I mean...Do you need something?"
He stares at her a moment longer, and her nerves begin to raise. He's the first the break eye contact, looking off to the side before meeting hers once more. When he speaks he even sound apologetic, "You going to the Entrance Exam?"
Now she's wound up for a different reason and the quick change fills her with energy. A small smile lights up her face, a seed of optimism is planted. Maybe today won't be so bad. "Yes! Are you?" Wait, "I-I mean…!" She feels stupid for asking that. Of course he's going, he's the one that asked in the first place—!
"It's okay." He smiles trying to reassure her, "I just wanted to know of you want to walk together when the train stops."
"Yes! Thank you." She leans back into her seat, "My name's Iia Kageno."
"Hehi Yokobi."
Prologue Part II: Excitement
He watches the way his shoes look underneath the glimmering light that manages to pass the fluttering tree leaves above. He loves the ever-change patterns light and shadow create. Breathing through his mouth, the air taste like sunshine. Today is a good day and he hopes it stays that way.
And then someone bumps into him. He stumbles forward, nearly dropping his bottle of milk. Looking up only to see the back of some running kid.
Ah, that's right. He should hurry.
Walking forward his admiration for the sun's light around him grows, and a wide grin stretched across his face. He raises his drink and takes a long sip of his cold milk, finishing it off. Done, he looks around for a trash can. But seeing none he shrugs, holding onto it for now.
At the sound of running footsteps, he pauses, bracing to be bumped into again.
"Oi!"
But it doesn't happen. He turns around, seeing a kid around his age— must be heading to the Exams— waving madly at him. He grins back, raising his hand. Letting the other boy catch up with his, he feels bright curiosity. The stranger huffs, giving a fox-like grin.
"Mind if I walk with you?"
He tilts his head, smiling, "Sure…?"
The stranger's whole demeanor lights up even more, beaming. "Names Akimori. Akimori Ichigo!"
"I'm Mashiro Mahone. Nice to meet you." A part of him hurts, but it's quickly drowned out by a wave of excitement. "You're taking the Exams right? You look like you're aiming for the Hero Course."
The other boy walk to his side, raising a fist, eyes sparkling, "Of course!" He laughs, "You?"
Mashiro's smile slips, "I don't know yet."
"Huh!? But!" Akimori blinks, mouth dropping in surprise, "The exams today! How can you not—?" Then he see the wide grin Mashiro flashes him. "Y-you're kidding?"
The other boy laughs, looking ahead, "I'm gonna be a Hero no matter what Aki-kun."
Said boy pauses at the sudden nickname. Then, like an excitable dog, be laughs again, "Then I'll be cheering you on Ma-kun!"
Prologue Part III: Pride
Steady steps walk forward as more and more people pass by. Under her cold demeanor, she couldn't help the bubbling excitement that threatened to burst forth. The sun felt warm, and so she had no problem with wearing her usual dress. Well, it looked like a dress, but the outfit actually came in two parts. A top and bottom, separated at the waist for easier movement. The bottom only came down to her ankles and underneath she wore her thick black leggings complete with sewn in knee pads.
Above, she wore elbow length gloves, beautiful and strong.
Today is going to be so awesome.
The outfit finished with a pair of steel toed boots. Perfect (she hoped) for whatever the Exams threw at her.
And then a car pulled up next to her.
She tilted her head to the side, it was a very expensive car. A man got out, but then someone's voice yelled, "I got it!" and the door closest to her opened. She began to walk forward again, she did have the exams to get to and she didn't want to be late.
The same voice called back, "I will, I will!" before footstep turned to a run, and that same stranger rushed past her. A girl.
Her voice still loud as she walked backwards, waving the man driving the car off.
Their eyes met.
"Oh." The new (loud) girl gave a Cheshire cat grin, "With what your wearing…" She turned her body forward, "I'd say you're also competing for a spot on in the Hero Course?"
The same quiet girl only nodded, causing the other to huff.
"Well, just so you know…" She raised her thumb, head tilted back, pointing to herself, "I'm Angelica Pendragon! I'm definitely getting in!"
And something with in the other girl burned, coming to life underneath her blank stare.
Was that a challenge?
"...Alice Morozov."
Prologue Part IV: Start
His tail flickered back and forth in built up anticipation. Ears pulled back from all the noise. So many people. It's not that he can't deal and hasn't dealt with crowds before. No, the problem lies in the reasoning for today crowd. Not that he blamed them. But already being pretty tall, all he could see around him was the ocean of anxious and excited teens. He just doesn't want to push any one over by accident.
Trapped by fate— his own kindness— he slowly waited through the other examines. Happily the teens closes to him seem to know what he's trying to do and move accordingly. It's just a game of patience— endurance— now.
"K'eh, need some help big guy?"
Ears fattening, the Panther-like boy looks down to the source of the voice. Hearing such a cocky voice his already stretched patience threatened to snap. But then he saw the boy's kind eyes and relaxed some. Breathing through his mouth he gave a small bow, "That would be appreciated…?"
The blond haired boy rolls his eyes, grabbing the others furred hand, "Juzo."
Being lead through the crowd with easy, perked up his spirit and his ears. He spoke with a deep, yet soft voice, "Thank you Juzo-san"
If he'd seen the blond's face, he'd seen how Juoo cringed at the formality. Instead he could only listen when the boy asks, "So where ya headed?"
"Hero Course."
This caused Juzo to stumble, but before the other could respond, he continued as if nothing had happened. "I'm heading there too." He gave a short bark of laughter, the sound taking the other off guard. "So what's ya name?"
If he didn't have fur covering his face, and if Juzo had been looking, he would've seen the cat-like boy flush a cherry-red. "Please excuse my thoughtlessness," Juzo snickered, "I am Rei Okumura."
"Nice ta meetcha Rei."
Blinking at the familiarity, he opens his mouth and— Bumps into the other boy.
Juzo doesn't budge, looking at the wide open double doors in front of him. He turns back to Rei, "Well, looks like we're here."
There first step towards becoming heroes...The written Exam.
Prologue Part V: To Judge a Book…
His heart raced, filling his veins with unwanted adrenaline. He adjusted his thick glasses, gold eyes not quite focusing on the mob of people around him. His mind began to bend, noises all around and most of all people and their stares.
'Breath. 1, 2, 3…'
He yawned, jaw trembling from the building anxiety. He needed to find his seat. No one else from his school had shown up, so he didn't expect to be seated with a familiar face. He was right.
Feeling more alone, he struggled to calm down, raking a brown hand through muddy-blonde hair.
'1, 2, 3…'
He checked his watch, and sighed at seeing they still had another ten minutes before testing began. Great. Maybe it would've been better to be late.
He thought of all the eyes that would stare at him if he'd done so, entering the building.
Nope, being early is fine.
He needed a distraction. Blinking back the irritation in his eyes he flicked out his tongue, tasting the presence of many people, paper, and plastic. He already missed being outside, tasting sunshine.
"Hello!"
He flinched, head snapping to his right as a person took their place next to him.
A girl...made of green slime?
She caught his eye and he quickly averted his gaze, "S-sorry…" He knew what it was like to be stared at, and god being a girl she must think she's some kind of cree—
Bubbly laughter interrupted his thoughts.
Looking back in surprise, he watch at the girl laughed openly, unrestrained. She leaned towards him and he froze. Her hair (Also made completely of slime, though in a darker shade), moved in thick liquid-like movements. She grins, "So seat buddy, my names Sakae!"
A pause. Both stayed staring at each other. Wait. Does she…?
He gave a weak smile in return, "Rune...Rune AkiSseto."

Prologue Part VI: Different Yet Similar
The closer she got to her seat, the higher her spirits rose. Everything, from the ceiling to the bleachers, looks so huge. More so with her short height. She's never felt so small before. The tip of her cat-like tail twitched in excitement. The energy thumping underneath her skin and it took everything to keep her ears forward. Today is the day and she's not going to mess this up.
She stops at a row of bleachers to her left and is quick to find her seat. Even though everyone from her school had wanted to go to UA, she wonders who would really give it a try. Saying and doing something were of course two different things.
And then she sees him.
Sliding in as far as she can go, she sits down, finds she is seated next to a familiar guy.
"Adrian?" Her voice is soft, but dark eyes meet hers. Huh, she never would have expected such a...introverted boy would actually show up to the exam. He gives her a small smile before turning back to his phone.
She grins, always so polite. Nodding to herself she curls her tail around her waist and too brings out her phone.
Today was her day.
