A/N: I wrote this story long before Rowling released the names of James family before she revealed that his family created Sleek Easy Hair Potion. I always pictured James father as head of the Auror's office in the ministry. Then James would want to follow in his footsteps and work in the ministry as well.
Chapter Two: Hogwarts Express and New Mates
James
James was walking on the sidewalk of King's Cross with Mr. and Mrs. Potter by his side. He had a trolley containing a hooting owl, a large trunk with the initials J.C.P. across the front. His untidy black hair would move swiftly as the light autumn wind blew. The three Potters finally reached the barrier that was located between platform nine and three quarters. James turned to look behind him and saw that his parents were in fact right behind him, but James was so unsure of how to get onto the platform.
Mr. Potter simply chuckled at the look on James face. "Don't worry, James, we'll go through the barrier together." James nodded his head as his father placed either one of his hands onto either side of the platform and together him and James went running right through the barrier. James mouth opened with amazement as he stared at the train that will be taking him to his future at Hogwarts. His parents had told him about the train years before but there was something about being able to finally see it in person. Mrs. Potter soon come through the platform barrier and was trailing behind her husband and son as they made their way closer to the train. Mr. Potter began to put James things onto train.
"You excited?" Mr. Potter asked.
"Of course," James said. "At least I will finally be able to make some friends my own age."
Mr. Potter shook his head not sure if he should laugh or feel sad. "That you got from your mother son," Mr. Potter said earning a playful hit on the arm by Mrs. Potter. Mr. Potter chuckled.
"There's no doubt you'll be sorted into Gryffindor," Mr. Potter said. "Many Potters were sorted into Gryffindor."
"Actually Charles I think there were a couple generations of Ravenclaws on my mother's side," Mrs. Potter said.
"There may have been Ravenclaws, but every Potter was sorted into Gryffindor," Mr. Potter said.
James glanced up at the clock, and noticed he only had ten minutes to get on the train.
"Dad, I really need to get on the train it's going to take off in ten minutes," James said.
"Yes," Mrs. Potter said. "Make sure you write as often as possible."Small drops of water started forming around her eyes as she pulled James into an embrace.
"Mum, please don't cry," James said.
"I'm sorry," Mrs. Potter said. "It's just you're my little boy."
James groaned as his mother pulled away from him. Mr. Potter walked over to him pulled him into an embrace.
"You'll do well James," Mr. Potter said.
"Thanks Dad, I'll see you guys at Christmas," James said.
James turned around and walked up the stairs getting onto the train. James began walking down the hallway looking for a seat to sit in, but the majority of them were quite full. James continued walking until he reached a corridor until he reached what he thought would be the perfect compartment. The compartment has three boys in it; one boy with sandy colored blond hair and he was talking to someone who was sitting in the compartment with him. The other boy had dark black hair that fell a little bit passed his ears and appeared to seem not being able to say anything else to the other boy. The final boy was chubby with a resemblance to a mouse.
"Maybe they are okay and they could be my friends," thought James to himself.
James slid open the compartment door and was about to move forward when the boy who was looking at the floor popped up his head.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" asked James. "All the other compartments are really full."
The sandy haired boy shook his head. "Sure, go ahead." James sighed with relief and moved to the seat opposite of the boy while putting a hand through his untidy black hair. "I'm Remus, Remus Lupin," the sandy haired boy said. James tried not to hide his staring but he noticed that there was a scar on the side of Remus' face. He knew it was not something he would want to make a bad first impression. Remus was not as handsome as the other boy.
"Peter," the mousy boy said. "Peter Pettigrew."
"My name is James, James Potter," James said introducing himself.
"Sirius, Sirius Black," the boy with long black hair said. Sirius had pale gray eyes that made his features even more handsome. James began to look at Sirius and felt like a bolt of lightning went through his brain triggering something in his memory. "The Blacks are Purebloods," James thought.
"Black? Your family is Pureblood right?" James asked.
"Yes," Sirius mumbled. "Does that matter?"
"Hardly, my family is known for not being prejudiced," James said.
James could gather by the expression Sirius wore that he did not want to speak about his family and decided to drop it.
"Are you guys excited?" James asked. "To finally go away to school?"
"I am, it's only been my parents and me," Peter said.
"Same with me," James said.
"I'm glad my parents thought I was never going to be able to go to school," Remus said. James, Sirius and Peter all stared at Remus.
"Why did your parents not think you would be able to go to school?" James asked.
"Did they think you were going to be a squib?" Sirius asked.
Remus cheeks turned bright red. "No," he muttered. "They just never thought it would happen for me is all. My father is a wizard, my mother is a muggle."
"I was nothing but excited to leave home," Sirius said. "It's the reason I got here early."
"Why did you get on the train so early?" Remus asked.
"I wanted to get as far from my family as possible," Sirius said. "Not to mention I wanted to try out some jinxes."
"What kind did you try?" Remus said with a furrow in his brow. Sirius flicked his wrist waiving him off.
"It was harmless, I promise," Sirius said.
James was more than fascinated with the new friends he made, but he knew that he would be spending more time with them making them become more than friends.
"Fancy a trip down the train?" James said. "To see who else will be in our year?"
"Can't you just wait for the sorting like everyone else?" Remus asked.
"Of course not," James said. He glanced at Sirius and Peter. "Do you want to come?"
"I think I will have to agree with Remus on this," Peter said. A glint of amusement surrounded the pupil of Sirius' grey eyes lighting up for the first time since James spoke to him.
"Yeah," Sirius said. "Let's go."
James and Sirius exited their compartment and walked down the train when two people in a compartment caught his attention. A red headed girl was sitting across from a boy with a curtain of greasy slimy hair.
"This should be interesting," James thought.
Lily
The Evans parked their station wagon in the parking lot outside of King's Cross. Mr. Evans was the first to get out of the vehicle and went behind to take out Lily's supplies that she would need for school. Mrs. Evans got out of the car and Petunia got out as well with a scowl on her face. Mrs. Evans gave Petunia a hard knowing look before walking over to join her husband and taking out Lily's owl, Jasper from the trunk. One of the staff's persons walked over to us. The staff person looked very distracted by the things the Evan's were holding.
"Would you like a trolley sir?" The staff person asked.
"Yes, thank you sir," Mr. Evans responded.
The staff person walked away and came back a few seconds later with a trolley. Mr. Evans thanked the man before loading Lily's things onto the trolley.
All four of the Evans' began walking through the sidewalk Lily to give her a big hug. As soon as they reached the brick barrier, they knew it was time for Lily to head on her way to the Mr. and Mrs. Evans were happy, but saddened at the fact that they would have to send their youngest daughter to a school, they had never even heard of, but then began to realize that sending their youngest daughter to receive the best magical education she could ever experience.
"Make sure you contact us as often as you can so that way we know how things are going, I'm going to miss you so much," Mrs. Evans said before pulling her youngest into a tight hug.
"Mummy please," Lily muttered.
"I know you will make the family proud, Lily," Mr. Evans said. Mrs. Evans let go of Lily so that way she could more over to hug her father. Lily looked around and noticed that Petunia had moved away from the group, obviously trying to avoid the family goodbyes. Lily began to walk over to Petunia and it was still no luck in trying to amend their friendship.
"Tuney," Lily said softly. Lily touched Petunia's shoulder and Petunia shrugged her shoulder off violently and tried to get away from Lily.
"Tuney, I know you're upset that I'm leaving you, but things will be the same," Lily pleaded to her sister.
"No, things will never be the same, Lily. So why don't you and that stupid boy go off to your fancy school and leave me out of your new universe," Petunia seethed.
"Tuney, I don't know-" Lily began until Petunia cut her off.
"Get away from me," Petunia said in a deadly tone, then began trying to get away from Lily again.
"I'm sorry, Tuney. I'm sorry! Listen-," Lily caught her sister's hand and held tight to it, even though Petunia tried to pull it away. "Maybe once I'm there- no listen, Tuney! Maybe once I'm there. I'll be able to go to Professor Dumbledore and persuade him to change his mind!"
"I don't want to go!" Petunia said and she dragged her hand back from her sister's grasp. "You think I want to go to some stupid castle and learn to be a-a- you think I want to be a freak?"
"I'm not a freak," Lily said with tears forming into her eyes. "That's a horrible thing to say."
"That's where you're going," Petunia implied. "A special school for freaks; you and that Snape boy… weirdos, that's what you two are. It's good you're being separated from normal people. It's for our own safety."
Lily looked around and moved closer to Petunia before saying, "You didn't think it was such a freak's school when you wrote to the headmaster and begged him to take you."
Petunia's cheeks burned as red as Lily's hair and scoffed quietly. "Beg? I didn't beg!"
Lily's bright green eyes softened with compassion for her sister. She knew Petunia wanted to go with her, especially since the family found out about her being a witch, she knew that Petunia was jealous, but more upset that she would be losing her sister. "I saw his reply. It was very kind.
Petunia whipped her head to look at Lily, and whispered, "You shouldn't have read. . . that was my private—how could you?" Petunia stuttered. Realization dawned upon Petunia's face, and pointed at Lily. "That boy found it! You and that boy have been sneaking in my room!"
"No- not sneaking," Now Lily was defensive. "Severus saw the envelope, and he couldn't believe a muggle could have contacted Hogwarts, that's all! He says there must be wizards working undercover in the postal service who take care of." Lily knew it was wrong for them to look at that letter, but they meant no harm.
"Apparently wizards poke their noses everywhere!" Petunia exclaimed. People who were walking by began to stare at the two of them and Petunia, now furious, blushed. "Freak!" she spat, before walking away to go hide behind her parents.
Lily was so upset. Not only did she make her sister angry, but now there was the chance she would freeze her out and never speak to her again. Lily rushed back over to her parents and gave them a small hug before pushing her trolley through the barrier and looking before her at the Hogwarts express. She was mesmerized by the beauty of the train. Lily loaded her things onto the train and climbed onto the train and walked through the isle. As soon as she found an empty compartment, she sat down, and pulled her knees up to her chest.
Severus walked through the corridors all dressed in his robes and was looking around for Lily. He paused when he saw Lily sitting by herself and looking terribly upset. When Severus slide open the door, Lily looked up.
"I don't want to talk to you," she said in a constricted voice.
"Why not?" he asked.
Lily sniffled. "Tuney hates me, because we saw that letter from Dumbledore."
Severus didn't look shocked by the recent news. "So what?"
"So she's my sister!" Lily exclaimed.
"She's only a-" Severus began but stopped when he saw the death look on Lily's face. "But we're going! This is it! We're off to Hogwarts!" Lily gave him a small sad smile.
"You'd better be in Slytherin," Snape said encouraged so that she had a brighter smile.
"Slytherin?" Another voice asked. Both of them looked up to see two boys around their age standing in front of the door. One of them had untidy jet black hair, and hazel eyes. The other had shoulder length black hair and grey eyes.
"Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" The boy with hazel eyes asked the other boy.
The boy with grey eyes frowned. "My whole family have been in Slytherin for centuries," he said.
"Blimey," The boy with hazel eyes said, "And I thought you seemed all right!"
The boy with grey eyes grinned. "Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where are you heading, if you've got the choice?"
The boy with glasses lifted up an invisible sword. "'Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!' like my dad." Severus made a disparaging noise. The boy with glasses turned on him. "Got a problem with that?"
"No," Severus said through a slight sneer. "If you'd rather be brawny than brainy-"
"Where are you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" Interjected the boy with grey eyes.
The boy with glasses roared with laughter. Lily sat up rather flushed and looked from both boys with dislike. "Come on, Severus, let's find another compartment."
"Ooooo," both boys began to imitate her lofty voice. The boy with hazel eyes tried to trip Severus as he passed.
"See ya, Snivellus!" James called, as the compartment door slammed.
James and Sirius laughed at the predicament of Snivellus.
"I think dear ol' Snivelly is going to make our years at school very entertaining," Sirius said.
"My uncle always used to say what's life without a little risk," James said.
James and Sirius began making their way back to their compartment when something dawned on James.
"Sirius what did you think of that redhead girl?" James asked.
"She seems alright," Sirius muttered. "As to why she is hanging around that little slimball is beyond me."
"Did you two come across something?" Remus asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, James here became smitten with a lovely redhead," Sirius snickered causing James to glare at him.
"I was not smitten with her," James said.
"Sure James," Sirius said. "We'll see what you have to say about that when you two grow up."
James continued to glare at Sirius. Remus decided it was time to change the topic to stop the tension.
"We'll be arriving at school soon," Remus said. "We should change."
James, Sirius and Peter all nodded before they began pulling out their uniforms. Little did they know that their friendship would bring interesting times for their years together at Hogwarts.
A/N: So I really didn't want to include Pettigrew in this chapter but I had too since he is part of the storyline. I apologize for any mistakes seeing as to I haven't heard from my beta in such a long time. Also I will be posting soon two alternate universe HP fics so I hope you guys will enjoy!
