Chapter One: Characters of Interest

A robed figure sat in a ramshackle inn in Demacia. A piece of paper sat in front of them that listed eight Demacian residents. The figure sighed and motioned to the waitress.

"One tea please. No sugar but with milk." said the figure. The waitress frowned and looked at the figure. They sighed and removed part of the hood to reveal a scar going through her eye. The waitress then smiled and went off.

Katarina sighed and looked at the paper. The eight Demacians written on there in Swain's illegible chicken scratch were: Fiora, the Grand Duelist, Galio, the Sentinel's Sorrow, Garen, the Might of Demacia, Lux, the Lady of Luminosity, Poppy, the Iron Ambassador, Quinn & Valor, Demacia's Wings, Vayne, the Night Hunter, and Xin Zhao, the Seneschal of Demacia. She understood why the other Demacian champions weren't there. Swain wanted to kill Jarvan IV himself. Lucian and Shyvana would make excellent pawns, killing Kayle would be extremely hard, even with a group of talented individuals. She wondered why Sona wasn't on the list. Perhaps to control the public later on? Katarina frowned. Swain was foolish enough to only target champions though. The common mass would have a chance, a very small chance but they could counter-attack and prevent Swain's plan. She chuckled. Of course. Swain underestimates the normal. Granted, he knows their capability, but he often overlooks it. I hope they bring him down. I don't trust him.

Then, she mentally categorized the assassination difficulty for each of the eight champions. Quinn and Valor were the easiest targets on the list for what could a scouting pair do to an assassin? Vayne was an unknown factor because of all the rumors circulating about the vigilante at the moment. Fiora was an excellent fighter but was more versed in face-to-face combat and an unexpected attack might catch her off guard. Xin Zhao would be an annoying target because of his skill. Galio could be easily manipulated if Poppy was in danger. And it could work vice versa. The same could be applied to Garen and Lux. She needed allies for about all of these champions. Katarina made an annoyed sound. What is Swain thinking? If these champions are killed, chaos would come but with Demacia's guard up. Perhaps he wants Demacia focused on..? She shook her head. Blah who cares about politics? I'm an assassin. But my loyalties lie with Noxus itself. If Swain wishes to go against, I of course, and the others will try to stop him.

The waitress came back empty-handed and pointed Katarina to a small and secluded door in the shadows. She stood up from her spot and went to the door. She put her ear to the door and then kicked it open. Upon kicking it open, she went in and shut the door behind her.

In the room stood three figures. So they're not with the first group... thought Katarina. She surveyed the room in an amused manner. This team will be tiresome to work with.

"How violent." said Draven, the Glorious Executioner. He was spinning his blades carelessly and threw one towards a group of boxes containing bottles of strawberry jam. It hit the boxes, smashed the bottles, and burrowed itself in the floor. Strawberry jam oozed out of the remains and made a dripping noise on the floor. "Hah! I guess you could say that's what our enemies will be. In a jam, of course." Everyone in the room groaned and looked at him pointedly.

"You're one to talk." said Katarina. She watched as he yanked the blade out of the floor and admired himself in its reflection while he continued to spin the other blade.

"Psh. I'm Draven. I'm exempt from all your meaningless labels." he said, grinning.

She sighed and looked at the other people in the room. Darius, the Hand of Noxus and Draven's brother, looked with disapproval next to Draven.

"Brother you are an idiot. This mission is idiotic. If Swain didn't assign me with this-this woman, I wouldn't be here." Darius glared at Katarina and spat at the wooden floor.

Katarina just met Darius's glare and glared back. "After that...incident, I'm not a terribly big fan of you either but you have to work with me. Considering your intellect, I'm not sure if you're up to the task."

"Why you-!" He lifted up his axe and raised it over his head. He sliced downward toward her. She easily jumped out of its way, the robe billowing behind her.

"Oh you want to fight? I accept your challenge." She threw off the robe and took one of her daggers. She threw the dagger toward Darius's general direction.

"Children." said Urgot, the Headsman's Pride, deflected the dagger with his blade. "Stop that at once. We are all here for a common goal and we must achieve that." He made a sort of tsking noise and scuttled towards another door and pointed at it with his claw. "We will use this to get out. You three, put on your disguises while I put on mine. And what is our first target, Katarina?" He opened a fairly large box with wheels labeled "Caution: Fragile, Handle with care" and shut it close after a few unsuccessful attempts.

I don't know whether Urgot would be a liability because of his new form or what she thought. She cleared her throat and addressed a grinning Draven, a glaring Darius and a busy Urgot. "I thought I'd go after Quinn and Valor first and you guys could come as backup or take care of Vayne while I kill them."

"You mean we aren't even needed?" said Darius. "What a waste of my time."

"I thought I'd get this over with." she said. Actually I wanted to find Talon and Cassiopeia but unsurprisingly, the address written on the back of the paper lead me to these three idiots. They'll probably give me the address for the others if we need more assistance. We probably will as these three specialize in manpower. She threw on her robe and lifted up its hood. Draven put his blades at his side and put on a similar robe with a hood. Darius merely put on a helmet and put on a different suit of armor. He added some details to his axe to make it look different.

"Let's go." said Darius.

Katarina looked at the group and then frowned. "How are we supposed to get Urgot out?"

Darius rolled his eyes and swung his axe towards the door. BOOM! His attack made a sizable hole in the wall leading to an empty alleyway. He pushed the box out and it rolled a bit before stopping. "There."

"Brother, what a dramatic exit. I applaud you for your idea." said Draven. "Dramatic is how I, Draven, the most handsome person in the world, work!" He struck a pose and strutted out.

Yep. Idiots. She rolled her eyes and said "I assume you guys are going to scout for Vayne?"

"Urgot and I are." said Darius. He pushed the box and headed off.

"Draven will grace you with his wonderful presence!" said Draven.

"Whatever." said Katarina. "Let's just go." She dragged Draven with her. "We'll be in the Kompira Forest. Quinn's been known to hang around there."

"Hey! Watch the hair!" said Draven as they walked towards the forest.
