A gentle press and lift completed the last character's brush stroke for an invisible letter he could/should/would never acknowledge. One easily hidden from everyone, including the recipient-girl-woman-once-upon-a-time-student.
No ink but his thoughts, no brush but his fingertip, no paper but her naked back.
Sakura slumbered – satisfied, exhausted – sprawling across the bed (they again rumpled). As the grayish-predawn light smoothed away shadows, Kakashi pulled up his mask and left.
She awoke.
Like a repeating track, her hand moved, feeling his lingering warmth from where he had lain beside her during their dark of nights.
It's enough, Sakura consoled herself. It's enough.
