The Mortal Gods
Chapter 2: Realization
Metropolis: 8:00AM
Superman awakened with a groan, he actually felt tired, and hungry, and sleepy, all of the things that he should not feel (being Superman). He listened and wondered why it was so quiet, why he couldn't really hear anything outside of his immediate window, his eyesight was still alright but why the hell couldn't he see every crack and imperfection as easily twiddling his thumbs. He was starting to get really nervous, "What's going on," he thought, "What's happened?" He tried to fly…nothing. He tried to punch through the wall…nothing (except the most pain he'd ever felt as his hand throbbed from the solid brick wall). He was panting and gasping from his confusion and pain in his hand. "What's happened to me?"
The Watch Tower: 8:10AM
Tens and hundreds of heroes or rather ex-heroes, awoke to tons of fearful screams coming from all over. Diana was currently doing her morning exercises and stretches; she was still very tired and so carried on normally with her morning routine. That is, until those screams started. She calmly got up, now fully awakened, and walked out into the halls. "What in Hera's name could this all be about" she thought. She came across the flash, desperately and pathetically trying to run down the halls faster and faster. "What's wrong Flash?" He stopped, panting and wheezing, "I...I...I don't…know .huh. I woke up and I couldn't go fast."
Diana was bewildered and kept going; she passed Supergirl staring at a piece of crumpled paper fearfully and sweating. "Kara what's wrong?" Kara looked up and started sobbing, "My…My powers are gone I can't fly, I can't crush steel, and I can't even melt this paper with my heat vision" tears flowed freely down her face, "they're gone!" she whispered.
Diana was scared, she saw people mad and punching walls, she saw some crying and hugging themselves in the fetal position, some just standing there, in shock at not having their powers. "What has happened to everyone," Diana wondered. She looked down at her hands slowly, "Has anything happened to her?" She tried to flip the lounge couch next to her, and it didn't move an inch. She looked up, "Please don't do this to your champion." She prayed to her gods. Diana jumped, trying to soar through the tower. Her heart sank as she fell against the hard floor with a thud. "No, no, no…no." She moaned in fear as she cried on the cold floor.
Wayne Manor: 8:30AM
Bruce sat up in his bed with a groan as Alfred woke him up. It had been a long night, cold, and the scarecrow and twoface had been making a playhouse of his city. His ribs hurt from a kick to them and his jaw was sore from falling against the dirty concrete streets of Gotham. "Oh well," he thought. He got up and went to the gym/dojo/meditation room of the manor. He went through his morning workout routine (Pushups, situps, crunches, etc.), He spent time doing his gymnastics and training on the rings, and finally he devoted the rest of the hour to practicing his martial arts and ending with some meditation.
He quickly showered and as he sat down for breakfast his phone went off, "Yes, Bruce Wayne here." He spoke into the phone, "Bruce! You've gotta help me, you're the only one who can help." Clark spoke through the line. "Help you with wha…" Bruce stopped mid-sentence, as he heard the home phone ringing, as the batcave alerts went off which told him he had messages from the league, and the alarms from the cave, which meant only one thing. He had unwanted guests.
