King and his friends had lead all their owners to the zoo. They wanted to go to see the zoo animals and the sights. Their owners were allowed in, since the zoo allowed dogs. Any kind of dog, and any and all cats. As the huskies lead their owners to the first exhibit, they looked around and saw many wonderful sights other zoos wouldn't allow them to see. Hot dog stands. Rare animals they've never seen before, animals brought back from exinction. A marine show in progress, the guests cheering for an encore. It was all amazing.
King and his friends were let off their leashes. They ran to the wolf exhibit. One wolf, probably the alpha, approached the edge of the exhibit. He warned them to stay away. But it was too late. The zookeepers had used a sleeping dart on all of them.
We're not even wolves. King thought. Leave my friends alone!
He howled loudly as the sleeping dart took over. He fell asleep.
Hunger gnawed at King's stomach. He woke up and smell the trees. His owner must still be here. How long had he been asleep? Then, another dog looked at him. A wolf.
I'm done for. My own cousin is going to kill me...King thought.
Instead, the wolf sat in front of him. "You've been out for a few hours. Those sleeping darts really take over if you let them. Fight it, and you're out for a few minutes to a few hours. Let it take over, and you're out for a either a few hours or days. Anyway, the zoo's about to close. It's almost 6:00."
6:00...That means I've missed lunch! King thought. He whined at the thought, and began to stand up.
"Where are you going?"The wolf asked.
"Home!"King said. He ran as fast as he could. The fence was inches away. He didn't stop. Time seemed to slow as he leaped the fence, over onto the path.
His owner was in the parking lot. Driving away, without him. King's stomach growled again as the time became six o' clock.
What about...Dinner? Where are my friends? Worse, will ever see them again?
It was eight o' clock, and now the hunger was unbearable for King. He whined constantly, looking at the empty dishes in the exhibit.
"What's wrong? You can just hunt some moose."The wolf said.
"I'm a husky. Huskies don't hunt."King said.
"Wait...you're a pet?"
"Yes. I'm not a wolf."
"Anyway, I have a bone here. There's some bit of a fish on here if you want it."
King's stomach growled again. King grabbed the bone and ate the bits of fish. However, he was still hungry.
"So, you have a name, Husky-wolf?"
"It's King. Not husky-wolf. Yours?"
"Well, just that. Husky-wolf. I used to be a pet, too. I've been here since I was a pup."
"How do you stay alive?"
"Unite or die."said Husky-wolf.
King looked at the moon. He was still hungry. He had missed lunch. Worse, his friends were here too. How will they all stay alive in this fight to unite or die? He pushed the thoughts away. He followed Husky-wolf to the den and fell asleep.
