Wolfkit woke to the sound of many cats talking outside.
Wolfkit shifted his nest, his eyes weren't open yet, and he felt something on his paws, mainly in the front. He shivered, and tried to shake it off do to discomfort.
Then, something happened; he saw a slight glimpse of the outside world. He struggle open his eyes, when he heard a gasp from his side. "WOW!" he heard what seemed to be his brother.
He felt his mother move, awoken. "Huh, Shadowkit," She gasped, "you opened your eyes!"
Wolfkit growled under his breath. Then he continued to struggle open his eyes. 'Too late to impress.' he mumbled silently, but continued. Until finally, his eyes were fully open.
He looked around at the world around him, it was so HUGE. His eyes went wild around the de. It was bigger than he expected.
He then looked at his mother, she was a silver tabby she-cat, and was cradling a black tom who seemed to be a lot bigger than wolfkit was.
He then struggled to his paws; he then looked down at them. He saw that the fronts of his paws were covered with the same stuff he was standing on.
Wolfkit padded, unsteadily, over to his mother. "Mother, look at me." he mewled.
He tripped over a rock, and his mother giant paw caught him. "Careful, little one." She purred.
He locked eyes with her, and her amber eyes softened. "You've open your eyes as well." She exclaimed.
Wolfkit tipped his eyes. "What color are they?"
His mother smiled. "A beautiful amber, like mine."
Wolfkit smiled, and looked over at his brother, he had green eyes like their mother's. "What's mine?" He asked.
"Their green, like your father's." Their mother answered, locking eyes and purring.
Wolfkit looked away, he saw that pride in his mother's eyes when she answered his brother. But not when she answered him.
His attention then went to his paws, and the stuff on them. He then started to get them off, and saw something large and sharp underneath.
His mother quickly noticed, and stopped him as fast as she could. "Don't do that, Wolfkit." She pestered.
"What are those?" He asked, fearfully.
His mother looked him in the eye. "Those are your claws, like these." she answered, unsheathing and sheathing her own.
Wolfkit looked back at his own paws, and tried to do what she died, when he flexed his paw, the claws grew longer, and went back to normal when he tried to hide them away. "I can't do it." He complained, trying over and over again.
He began to sob, and his mother pulled him in close. "It's okay, it's okay." She soothed.
Wolfkit looked into her eyes. "Why can't I sheath them like you?"
"In a way, they are sheathed, just they are so long, and your paws are so tiny, they can't hide away." she answered.
Wolfkit buried his head into her fur, and continued to sob.
